Chobits is fun!

I really liked Chobits. It has some pretty fun moments and for the most part always delivers it's quirky little brand of humor. I wish I could meet my best friend that way.

"Hey, i brought in your boxes for you."
'You did? THANKS!'
"i'm in Cram School"
'What? ME TOO! Middle Row?'
"Middle Row. Do you like porn?"
'I love porn!'
"Let's be best friends!"
'YAY!'

Alright, so there was more to it than that. But hey, it was cool!

Of course, it's not as funny as Sakigaki! Cromartie High School!

Or Sexy Commando.

But I liked it all the same.

Most definately love FLCL...the nuttyness just makes it better...sexy commando is approaching too wierd but its still funny. FLCL is structured enough to contain the madness and allow a person to have fun while watching it. Enneboody like Hellsing?

Hellsing was good when Alucard was on screen. I also really liked the queen of intensity Integral. It is interesting to see the dracula legend told from the future that isn't freaking vampire hunter D. I also liked what happened to the Van Hellsing name and orginization.

and the music was good. I mean, who else could manage to work in a good old fashioned godzilla roar?

Good anime to me is something that can be appliled to our lives and or where we as humans are going of have been. Objectional content sometimes has to be nessary to get a point across

Ghost in the Shell- I feel that with in 10-15 years this could very well be
our reality. The Nudity isn't even human nudity but the movie does bring up the question of what it is to be human so it's up in the air.

Trigun-same thing what makes this so good has been stated here already

Ah My Goddess-before you gasp there is an almighty God they all answer to. If you dig deep enough into it you will find some good morals with in.

Big O-does mention Jesus in one Episode

Cowboy Bebop-Interesting take on death (you'll see if you haven't)

Golgo 13 Queen bee- For fairness sake I'm going to edit some of what I said about this title. I recomend this for more mature viewers Mainly because it's view on politics is a little too real. I will warn you it's pretty bad content wise so mature viewers only.

Chobits-Cute touching story. Raises some ethical questions too. A must see.

Ghost in the shell... I'd would NEVER reccomend this openly on the boards... And, though I'm not totally opposed to nudity in a movie, your reasoning was absurd... Not many would distinguish there just because she's got robot parts underneath...

Not ALL of us worship Trigun (no offense, MillyFan) here... Besides, there are some mature things in it that I wouldn't give to a kid...

Despite me loving Aa Megamisama, the "Allmighty God" they answer to is NOT our "Allmighty God"

Big O mentions Jesus??? So what?

Cowboy Bebop... A good story about the end result of living for money...

The one MAJOR point I'm going to contest is Golgo 13... That should NEVER be reccomended here, unless you're talking the old nintendo game... The anime is borderline Hentai...

Oh, and Chobits, while I sort of liked it, it has a lot of problems and I would say (though I'm no mod) it should not be recommended openly in this thread... This thread is for "There's nothing to worry about" anime... That means no fanservice, sex, "language", or gratuitous violence... Stuff like Spirited Away or Grave of the Fireflies or that one dog movie... You know, family friendly. I don't have too much of a problem with anything you've said for other threads, except for Golgo 13... I wouldn't recommend that one to anyone... (oh, and I've never even seen that one about the married couple being bothered by the girls...)

I've been rewatching Tenchi Universe recently (One of my all time favorites that I haven't seen in years.) It's not 'sqeaky clean' (some mild nudity and risque humor), but it's not to the extent the OAV series was. (The OAV is one of the funniest anime ever though in my opinion) If stuff like the above doesn't bother you, give it a shot! Newcomers to Tenchi should skip Tenchi in Tokyo, as it's VERY mediocre. Newcomers might want to try the OAV first, but be warned that it has more nudity and risque humor than the TV series.

Well, I know Totoro is a family-friendly title, despite its natural spiritism theme.

Given the requirements inside the definition of "Family-Friendly" and the typical "Animé" title, few titles would be found, as there's little room due to their inherent dychotomy.

Oh, and Bobtheduck: I just want you to know, that I totally agree with you on Trigun. It deserves its rating, and I honestly don't think a recommend for it belongs in a family friendly anime thread. :)

Hi Javaman20! Nice to have you around!!

That list of anime you give is a pretty hard-hitting list of some of the most popular titles around (Trigun, Bebop, Evangelion), but you added Blue Gender.

That's a rather interesting choice. I've seen the first 6 episodes of that anime and it's pretty mature-themed (full of violence and a couple sex scenes, though not much was shown as much as implied), though it's about as realistic as I can imagine such a situation to be.

I'd like to see more of the series. Gave me thoughts dating back to the days I first saw the movie Aliens.

But anyways, what about these titles you've listed, javaman, that you would recommend them as 'good anime' to a group of Christians?

Oh, from what I hear of the Blue Gender DVDs, you have seen nothing yet. In fact, there's some major league hentai content as the series goes on.

I don't see why javaman recommended those titles either. :eyebrow:

Ok, here's a good recommendation for 'good anime':

Human Scramble

The title may be misleading, but in short, I don't remember when the last time an anime title actually had "Family-First" and "Love is most important" as central themes in a LONG TIME.

... at least not since I saw GTO....

but, Human Scramble is even without the gutter humor, foul language, and violence!

No fanservice that I've seen, sexual themes are virtually non-existant, and that's because of the GREAT STORYLINE!

Just grab an ep or two (go to http://www.animesuki.com/ for bittorrents) and check 'em out for yourself.

It's almost everything you'd ever want in an anime title to teach people about what really matters in life...people.

That's my 3 yen. ;2)

Good animes...

I'd have to say Trigun...I don't really have to write anything about it because lot's of people already have.

Nadesico is another really cool anime...The dub uses the D word to much...It's not that bad but there is times in the anime where somebody will get really mad and yell it a few times in a row.

Robotech....The Macross saga is good and clean enough to let 5 year olds watch it...It has a tiny bit of alcohol use though (barely nonexistant though)

Escaflowne...People have already talked about it so...

I'll post some more if I remember to...

Good anime:
Dragon Ball, DBZ, DB GT
Ronin Warriors
Rouroni Kenshin
Yu Yu Hakusho (unless you are uncomfortable with the whole ghost and magic thing)
Record of Lodoss War
Robotech
Gundam Wing and G Gundam
Galaxy Express 999 (unforunately it is impossible to find! :( )
Zoids, Chaotic & Zero Centuries

Good "Bad" Anime:
Vampire Hunter D
Berserk
Iria: Zeiram the Animation (although this one is arguably acceptable)

I more or less like everything that I see...although I haven't seen very much! .Hack// is also good, even though I've only seen two episodes.

My favourite *recent* anime is Uchu no Stellvia (otherwise known as Stellvia of the Universe). The main character is absolutely the kawaiiest bishoujo I have ever seen, I fell in love with her instantly. :lick: But soon you discover how rotten and mixed up her personality is. She can't even have a proper relationship with anyone, male or female. However, the series covers ALOT of characters and the focus is shifted off of her for enough of the series to make it more than tolerable. I suppose it would be classified as a sci-fi/drama/comedy/romance. It reminded me of Pilot Candidate in a few ways, particularly the setting. I'd recommend this anime to just about anyone. If nothing else, you'd at least enjoy the light dose of typical anime humour in some of the eps. Right now I'm thinking of a particular scene in the Christmas episode where I actually had to pause the video, because I was laughing so hard. But I won't spoil it for anyone.

BTW, the op/ed are rockin.

This thread is hopelessly Image. It was supposed to be a thread where we shared anime titles that could be shared with one's family or that were above and beyond the average definition of anime.

Instead, this has become a share your favorites thread, really not a "good anime" thread. I've seen titles mentioned here that are hentai (Golgo 13) near-hentai (Chobits), and to a lesser degree, animes that are IMHO most definitely not for audiences under 13 or 14 (Eva, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, among others)

I think this thread's title should be changed to "Anime Favorites." :)

No, I think you and Danek both make good suggestions, so please, everyone, rather than post your top 10 list, let's get back on topic with what it was originally started for (BrianC's and Milly's initial posts are good models).

If you have an anime, or a couple animes, that you think is/are particularly good, you MUST post why! Characterization, morals, action, whatever, but it must not be just a top-ten list because that doesn't tell us anything! :)

vinci, cbwing0, Tet -- tell us why you picked the ones you did.

Sorry about that ^^

Chobits is good anime though. If you don't mind looking at some tiny porn magazines as the background pic every few episodes, it's alright. I usually just ignore them. Chobits is especially good because it talks about how you can do something(ex. love a robot) even if everyone else thinks it's wrong. Did what I just said make sense? -shrug-

Tokyo Mew Mew, Pichi Pichi Pitch- they're just plain cute. The graphics are nice, the stories are cute, everything's absolutely kawaii ^^

Digimon, Cardcaptor Sakura, Inuyasha- actionpacked, funny, and cute. Great storylines.

Fushigi Yuugi- love story ^^ If you enjoy sweet love stories, then you should watch FY :D

I thought of another highly recommendable anime. Although, you're going to have to get the fansubs or the japanese DVD's of it because it was never licensed. It's called Spiral: Bond of Reasoning. It's 26 episodes long. It's a mystery genre for the most part. Every episode or every few, a new puzzle is introduced, which is part of a larger picture.

The main Character is Narumi Ayumu. He has a sidekick named Hiyono, a random girl from his school. She took interest in him at first because she heard him playing the piano and thought it was very beautiful. She becomes very loyal to him throughout the series.

There's not alot of humour in the anime, although there is a small amount. Nothing particularly funny sticks in my memory though. Generally, the anime has a deeply serious mood, reminiscent of Lain.

Oh yes, then there's the all-important content issue. It's quite clean to watch. There were small amounts of violence, ... there might have been guns but I don't remember. I know there was at least a dart gun. and someone got shot with it. There is some death, and suspenseful situations, so it's not something you'd watch with your kid sister or something. I really don't remember anything particularly objectionable at all about the series though.

I'm afraid to say anything else about this title because it could be quite easily spoiled. Even if I don't spoil the story for you, I could spoil half the enjoyment and rewatchablity of it just by telling you some other very general things about the series as a whole. ^^; so I think I'll wrap up this review here. However, if you've finished the series, I'd love to talk in private with you, as I have a few thoughts about the ending, and the series as a whole, that shouldn't be revealed here. I'd love to hear your comments about it as well.
