Oh...(ahem), well, in that case I'd go for a more neon blue instead of an indigo to stand out more from that black. But if you want it sort of blended, than indigo is the way to go!

being goth in itself isn't evil but most symbols associated with Goths are satanic. So if your wearing a pentagram then yeah your pastor has a point, but if not the pastor shouldn't worry about it. And I doubt it's a big deal to the pastor anyway maybe he just wanted to make a comment.

well, the way the dye is, is its a black, but in the light it has a blue tint. so when the light reflects off it, it turns blue.

I think it would be cooler if you did black-black with bright blue streaks. Cuz' just one color is waaaaaaaay too boring. That and it would give your pastor something to really complain about (j/k).

"ankh"
hmm.... yes that is the name of what was descibed.
But even I thought that was a holy symbol.
I'll have to research that.
Don't wear it anyway though.

an ankh is cross shaped like a T with a loop at the top, especially as used in ancient Egypt as a symbol of life. Also called ansate cross.

Why the goths have adopted this symbol is what I wonder....
It seems to be the opposite of death which they hold as an ideal.

I was more or less kidding. I think tattoos are a whole different thread. Besides, I really don't want any of your parents coming to me complaining about how I've corrupted all of their children into wearing black, dying their hair, and wearing tattoos. BTW, if any of you can give me some good info on nanotechnology and life extension, I would be either eternally grateful or just grateful until the next paper comes along.

Personally I don't have a problem with people who dress goth. I could care less if someone dressed prep or even skaterish. On some people it looks cool, some it doesn't. I think the black nail polish is probably the best thing about it. :)

Dressing one way doesn't make someon less of a believer then the next guy. It's what you have in your heart not on the outside. I mean just because someon looks clean and groomed doesn't mean he has a good heart. I guess the same can apply towards everyone. It's all about how we carry ourselves and how we act towards others. I've met the good and bad from all groups.

God created us all different with our own personalities. So I could care less who someone dresses.

It's possibly because of the character of Death from the Sandman comics, which made a big hit on the goth scene in the early 90's because she was a goth girl...she wears one of these around her neck.

technically, Goths aren't Christian. Goth is a type of occultic religion that has caught on with teens today...
and is often confused with gothic styles. Goths chose to use the gothic style of clothing/makeup/etc because it fit their preferences and went along with what they stand for. Gothic style stuff didn't result from that.

To say that one can't be gothic and Christian at the same time is foolish. If someone wears black all the time, then so be it. I do so often, mostly because my skin shouldn't be exposed to too much sunlight (due to medication) but it helps keep warm, and it looks quite good afterall. Wearing gothic makeup styles can be a little weird, but I wouldn't say it's bad unless you wear it to church or any other formal event.

As for dying your hair, I think that you have to talk to your pastor about it. If he doesn't want people doing that in his church, then I think that you need to listen to him. It's kinda like a dresscode at a job or school... a church is entirely entitled to establish one. The Bible doesn't give any hard-beaten guidelines for such a dresscode, but that's not the point. The pastor has the right to call the shots on such things, and if you go against what he says then you can pretty well expect for him to not let you have any major part in the church body untill you go along with him. This isn't to say that he's right or wrong about his choice concerning whether or not such a hair color is gothic, but if he says it's acceptable or unacceptable in his church, then his word is the law and nobody has a right to go against it.

I had an Anti-pink phase where I absolutely LOATHED it, and I turned to more Tomboyish clothing and darker clothing. It was a statement I made (and this was before I was saved).

The Bible, concerning clothes, speaks of dressing MODESTly.

I would expect a teen wearing black lipstick, nailpolish, some leather collar or some such, tight black pants and fishnet stockings wearing this Grim Reaper look about them, to not be saved. I also don't agree with letting kids wear things exposing flesh such as the waist, low riding jeans... I think guys look rediculous when they wear pants so low their underwear shows, or wear army clothes when they wouldn't even consider joining the military and don't like the military.

Original Gothic look and style, also incorperated a Lifestyle and attitude. That is very largely non or antichristian.

How you dress might not be how you feel, but generally, wearing something "non-conformist", is an attempt (in some way, even small) to ironically "conform" to something, either socially or personally. An Identity thing.

On Halloween (which I'm no longer so thrilled about), or at Anime Conventions, people get a chance to dress up as people they aren't, or would like to be. On that day, my "identity" changes to a fantasy image. Of course, most people don't go around dressed as Klingons, Video Game Characters and Anime Characters every day. However, the point of dressing up is to embrace something out of the norm.

I dont wear makeup, I rarely paint my nails, and I rather let my hair go half the time. When I do dress up or paint my nails, I feel special, I've put some effort into my looks, to reflect something. For Example, On the 4th of July, I painted my nails Red White and Blue as a symbol of my patriotism. Doesn't mean I'm going to turn into US flag, but it's what I feel, and want to project. It's a statement. Likewise, I had black nailpolish once, it was a statement, not just against Pink but all bright colors. I wanted a dimmer less flashy world around me, starting with my nails.

Think about Why you dress the way you do...

Do I wear ____ because it makes me look or feel good?

Do I wear ____ because, deep down, I know it drives ____ nuts?

I wear ____ because I'm showing ___ that I can. It's my right.

You have no right to tell me not to wear _____, it has no effect on how I'm thinking!!!

Do I wear ____ because I think it's cool?

Do I wear ____ because everyone else does?

Do I wear ____ because the people I admire do?

But most importantly - on any matter - ask yourself....

Does this Glorify God?

Spiritually, I don't think you can be a "True Goth" and a Christian,
fashionably, Refering to the bible.... it's up to you to decide if it's worth it or not.

1 Corinthians 6:12 All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.

1 Corinthians 10:23 All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not.

If someone in Authority over you expects a certain dress, remember, all authority comes from the Author of Creation; so have proper respect.

And that's my two cents :3
Your arms are too short to box with God.

I don't dress in black (not my favourite colour) but if I suddenly feel attracted to it and if anyone complains that it is devilish and satanic I give them two words: Johnny Cash. He's been wearing black since since the 1960s and he's possibly one of the most outspoken, kindest down to earth Christians of the 20th century. He did have some rough times with drugs in his youth but for more than forty years he was a Christian and he always wore black. And if they say "he's an exception" then maybe you say "So am I".

I'm surprised no one has mentioned "The Man in Black" so far. Tsk, tsk.

I have a rather negative view on people who trash on goths. Dress how you want to dress. (As long as were talking being modest) People like to bash what they don't understand. As far as a pastor telling you not to dye your hair, I would find a different church. But thats just me. If he has tattoos...I really don't understand his logic at all.

be silent before Ashley makes heads start rolling

I find it odd you wrote then...then jumped into your whole creed on gothic fashion. And to correct you, Goths are not a religion. Pagons are, and satanists are. But goth is a style term. Akin to Prep, Jock, etc.
