I'm going to Fiji!

Yay! I'm taking my family for a 12-day holiday to Fiji!

It's the first holiday away we've had in a few years, and the first time my kids have been overseas. It's going to be so cool :)

Anyhow, we leave next Monday, so if anybody was still interested in taking up my free web hosting offer, you'll have to get in before then because I won't be back for a few weeks :)

If you go through Lautoka, look up a guy named "Maikeli Ratu". He's a pastor, and ask him if he remembers a "Luke" that chased chickens and made fart noises with his hands... Hehehe... Actually, I don't know if Fiji has phonebooks... Darn... Well, maybe people there would recognize the name... Fijians seem to remember people rather well...

Oh, and a good fijian phrase to remember is "Au via kana tamata" Just make sure you say it to someone you know somewhat well... Well, I don't think anyone would get mad, but you'd get a laugh from a friend... A stranger may just look at you strange..

Bula Vinaka : A polite helo
Nadra (pronounced Nandra) Vinaka: Good Morning
Kana Vaka Levu: Eat Big
Viti Levu: Big Island
Moce (pronounced mo-thay (soft th)) Goodbye or sleep

To get a laugh, when you say goodbye to people, say "Au via moce"

Oh, and Fijians only say "io" (yes) on the phone... In person, they just raise their eyebrows to say yes. And thank you is "Vinaka" but to thank someone for a gift, you cup your hands and make a loud, hollow clap three times... And NEVER touch a fijian's head... It makes you out ot be their master... Not good.
