Objections to Kenshin

I always wondered that about the fighting shows, how increased battle prowess somehow made people's bodies immune to damage. Doing 10,000 pushups doesn't make your face stronger.

If you get right down to it, I think the Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki probably violates the laws of physics! He's supposed to hit how many points on the human body in one second flat?!? If he can do that, then walloping people with a reverse blade sword and not killing them should be a piece of cake - as long as it's the physics of the anime world!

Sigh. So many technique names to remember. I should probably stick to Saitoh's gattotsu - he just seems to have variations of it. I read somewhere that the gattotsu was totally made up by Watsuki, but that the shinsengumi really did favor a parallel sword thrust type of technique used by Hijikata (Kondo's second in command)

Yeah, that's true about the Gatotsu. And I do forget the Gatotsu's names from time to time...I know there's Sanshiki and Zeroshiki, but I forget the rest! <<^_^;

Oh, and now that I remember it, Hiko's VA is Richard George...XD I love the ones where he's trying to pronounce "Amakakeru Ryu no Hirameki"..."The Amakakeru..no..Fleegen flugen flagen..." XD

And yeah, Kenshin does have some funny ones! I love it when he gets a line almost perfect, and then says "...And stuff" XD "And since you bring up the subject of time, let me rewind you..." ROFL Those outtakes are the best! XD

Kenshin actually made me know a disturbing amount of Japanese history. My high school history teacher once made some offhand comment about an event in Japan that affected the US, and I immediately raised my hand and was like "Wasn't that 'fill in date here'?"

No wonder I wasn't popular in school.

LOL! Actually, I was rather dissapointed in my history class...There were THREE sentences on the Meiji Restoration. THREE. I counted. It was horrible...XP Anyways, I wish I could have studied that more in class, but I have US History next year, so I doubt I'll be getting much Japanese history in.

I'm so sorry, Rurouni_Kaoru! Your history book sounds horrid. You should see the history book I have to teach from! The Meiji Restoration barely gets mentioned, so I stick in a lot more about it in my lecture notes - it's good to be the teacher sometimes, you can get away with focussing more on what you personally find interesting in history.

I'm sorry to tell you that you probably won't get any Japanese history in your US History book until you get to World War II, and then it'll be Pearl Harbor, the war in the Pacific, and Hiroshima & Nagasaki and pretty much nothing else.

Still, it's just a feature of the genre. If you're watching a musical, you don't complain because the characters burst into song randomly. It's just a part of the art form.

Don't know if that point was illustrated well....

I think you made an excellent point, Yukinon. Using a musical as an analogy was perfect! As in a musical, you can't expect complete realism in an action/adventure type anime. It's purpose is to entertain, not to be entirely realistic.

I guess it can be a little disappointing when the series in question blends in actual historical facts as masterfully as Rurouni Kenshin does. It's realistic in that Watsuki did a lot of research to make sure background, events, and even some characters were accurate. It makes the flights of fancy he takes with the laws of physics seem a bit jarring to the strict history and science fans out there because they tend to stand out like a sore thumb.

I like both elements - the history and the fantasy - so it doesn't bother me that much when one violates the laws of the other.

To Mr. Himura and to all those who support our cause,

The show Rurouni Kenshin is polluting our young and impressionable chidlrens minds that if you hit a person with a reversed blade sword or thier fist using Futae no Kiwami that you will not majorly hurt or possibly kill someone. Because of this show's exscuse of "realism", thier have been reports flooding in that kids are whacking eachother with sakabatos and other various "non-lethal" weapons/attacks/techniques which has resulted in some unesccary deaths.

I am sorry Mr. Himura but because of your self rightious ignorance of the realism, but the very thing you tried to avoid...you are supporting. Who is the monster here Mr. Himura?
