Looking for info from High School Students

Having been out of high school for a while now, I need to do some research for a story I'm writing, and was wondering about some things on how schools are now. So if there are any current high schoolers/recent grads who can answer these two things.

1) What was the school's policy on PDA (Public Displays of Affection?

2) What are the popular fad items in school... the trendy things etc that everyone gets worked up about?

well in my school:

1) the school administrators and officials work really hard to prevent it. Its gotten to the point where you dont see anything any more. And if someone does try something... you dont see them for a while afterward.

2) Uhm... Shiny purses, purses made out of koolaid packs...<.<; ... Uhm. o_o; I know the more 'popular' crowd likes to gossip and all that nonsense. e_e; I'm not really sure. I'm just kind of there in body. My mind wanders o_o;

It's been over a year for me....

1. As for the policy itself, I'm seriously not sure, because I never really gave a care about that. I'm sure they kept a watchful eye.

2. Heh, skateboarding and Basketball seemed to be popular among the younger High Schoolers. I remember one kid was obsessed with Nike shoes. I don't remember much else, but there was a sea-shell necklace that seemed to be popular amongst guys and gals, a like.

1. I go to an all boys school... so im THANKFUL theres no PDA... i wouldn't want that..

ABSOLUTELY NONE! You weren't even supposed to be able to hold hands. HOWEVER, as in almost all other things, school officials turned a blind eye on it. People made out in hallways, had relations in stairwells....ugh...

iPods. Everyone wanted one. And text messaging, that was big.

Eh....does it matter which country the high school culture is from? I'm pretty sure the American high schoolers think differently from their Asian counterparts.

Anyway,
1) PDA: A major NO-NO. Heaven forbid if anyone even had their hands around each other's shoulders and waists. The closest to PDA is mostly holding hands but even so, that was frowned on.
2) Craze/Fad: (in the late 1990s) --> Tamagochis, 'friendship' bands, cellphones

1. Of course there were rules for PDA. But of course as long as nobody made out infront of any of the faculty nothing happened.

2. Silicone wristbands, sweat armbands, cellphones, Ipods.

1. PDA - "offcially" no, but there's a lot of it. I love it when people are making out in front of the soda machine or my locker. A "gentle" shove and a loud "EXCUSE ME" tends to dispel the problem and get me lots of nasty looks. ^_^

2. Hm...crazes and fads? ^^; I don't do the craze/fad thing so much, but I guess...uhm, cell phones, ipods, skateboarding, snowboarding, hip-hop/rap music...going to parties and getting drunk. =o=;;;; It seems like a lot of people like underage drinking these days. .__.

By the way...I go to a Californian public school, so yeah, the behavior is seriously way out there. o_o; I hope things aren't as bad at other schools.

OK my school is diabolically EVIL!

1) in our school there seems to be nothing against pda. Lesbians are making out in the hall, people are always rubbing up during class, such... ugh! I dont even want to talk about it :,(

2) Trendy items.... Ipods is a good one. I guess this slips by me totally. Everyone has Ipods (except me) and everyone has cell phones (except me).

I went to a private Christian school.

1. Officially very strict stance on PDA. That didn't prevent out-of-wedlock pregnancies and shotgun marriages (of course, students in question were expelled).

2. Never really paid attention once I became a freshman. But I do remember the Star Wars Card and then the Pokemon craze. Punk paraphernaila (those wristbands and Hot Topic stickers) were "hot" at the twilight of my highschool career.

They hand out ASDs for hand holding, and prolonged hugging. But that doesn’t stop some of the more frisky students --- now we're not allowed to have the lights off while watching movies or sit on the ground at any time.

Pop-punk bands. Guy sports -- namely football. ipods and cellphones. Our teachers where allowed to take them hostage on sight, but that didn't stop many kids, and only the evol teachers followed that rule. (fyi --- I'm not sure if its just at our school or what, but all the teachers have a list of extension phone numbers by their desks that they use to make in-building calls. A very dangerous thing that may or may not have fallen into the wrong hands and used during exams to liven things up )

"Hey, <insert name of good-natured teacher>--- its me, <insert name of older, creepy teacher/prudish, anal teacher> --- wanna have a tickle fight!?!?"

Chain smoking at "the spot" aka the park outside of town was popular too during lunch, but on campus down, behind the school at the nature observation dock.
My personal favorite irony trend happened after one of the more preppy boys got the lead for Okalahoma --- he started this thing about hanging out in the drama club's make-up room --- its a room that has full length mirrors on every side and is located so that if you're in there you can hear almost anyone coming from a distance. A perfect hideout for the narcissistic delinquent

>^^<; It really depends on what cliche your in.. But here's some clothing I see..

1) Long cotton skirts and lacy things. >^^< Often with earthy colors.

2) >^^< sports wear. A lot of boys and girls go with this fashion. They have jackets with their highschool name and wear their highschool colors. Guys often wear a t-shirt over a long sleeve spandex shirt. Girls wear sweat outfits (with bright colors), they roll up the sleeves and the bottom of their pants to look like capris.

3) >^^<; Skater. Baseball caps and other hats are popular amongst the skaters. Usually the hat says some kind of quote or joke. They also like sweat bands, jelly bracelets, and spiky things. And don't forget skateboarder shoes and skateboard!! Lol!

4)There is wide variety of goth style. >^^< So I guess I'll have to narrow it down quite a bit. combat boots and accessories with spikes. Of course, Black,black, black, and BLACK! But they also like to go with neon colors and other unusual stand-out colors. Some goths like frilly skirts, dresses, and shirts, and other fancy European styles (with lots of BLACK). T-shirts with funny sayings. Black hair, black nailpolish, black make-up, etc. >^^<

5) Short jean skirts. tank tops with spray-paint words on it (with glitter usually). Flip- flops, cheapand/or gawdy jewelery.

6) rap style. baggy pants, sweaters, t-shirts etc. hats. daimond jewelery, gold, and shiny jewelery. ( >^^<; in their language known as 'bling')

But she wasn't lying about the PDA aspect. One time a board mom made an announcement in morning chapel about how there wa too much male/female socializing. By socializing does she mean kissing? Hugging? Even hand-holding? No. She means there were too many guys and girls eating lunch together. Ooooh, now there's a crime. . .

PDA's are "banned" at my school, but no one really follows that rule except for the more moral students.

I got held back and am going into 8th grade so I`m supposed to start up High School this year, but i didn`t. So some of my friends are like just turning 13 and I`m like about to turn 15. Pity me.

And all my friends have girlfirends just for the sake of looking cool when the most they do is smile at each other and call each other 'honey'. It`s really pathetic considering I`m older than them. I have had girlfriends, but I`m not going to go into that.

My 7th great class has 11th grade work. I`m like: "Why can`t we use 7th grade work?"

Hmm, .... I would say :

1. The administrators try very hard to eliminate -bad- PDA like kissing/making out and stuff, but when they hold hands, they just ignor it XD; I don't think thats bad to hold hands as long as they don't go past that.

I went to a private Christian school and even though very few people there were Christians the whole environment was meant to be "Christ-like." We still had many of the problems most/all highschools have though.

There was to be none. No hugging, kissing - anything. But ofcourse some people kissed in locker rooms or whatever and hugging continued.

I was never one of the popular kids (not by a long shot) thank goodness, but underage drinking seemed to be all the rage. Furry pencil cases were really popular amongst girls and guys, cars I guess. Mobiles (cell phones) weren't allowed, either were cd players, walkmans etc. It was a very strict school and there wasn't a whole lot of materialistic things to have fads. Harry Potter books were all the rage amongst the younger highschoolers and some of the older ones.
