Anime Expo 2005 - Official Con Report

Postby Debitt » Mon Jul 04, 2005 6:16 pm

^_^ Kokoro Daisuke here, the designated official AX reporter, bringing you a comprehensive overview of the 4 days spent at AX.

Normally I would start with day 1, but considering Saturday, day 2, is the day where the CAA members congregated, I'll start there.

Day 2 - CAA Party 2005. The Nutjobs invade AX and Downtown Disney!
My brother and I arrived at AX around 10 AM, and started the day off by snapping a few cosplay shots:
Image
Munak, Bongun, and Hyegun from Ragnarok Online

Bridget from Guilty Gear X2

Chrno and Rosette from Chrno Crusade

My brother and I were on our way to get in line to get into the dealer's room where I saw a man with a Kuroneko backpack on his head. Guess who I had found? Yes, our very own Ingemar, along with SirThinks2Much, mechana2015, and mobilesuitpilot! ^_^ We then proceeded to hold up traffic and take a few group pictures.
Image Image

We hit the dealer's room for a little bit before going to watch a couple episodes of Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok (guess who orchestrated that one. ) and then met up with Joan of Ark and Kaligraphic. From there we wandered the dealer's room a bit more...and Ingy attacked a couple innocent Vashes and girls with Kuroneko backpacks:
Image

The group got seperated for a bit, so we sprawled inside and waited for everyone to congregate again. In the meantime, I took the liberty of snapping a few more cosplay pics:
Image
Cardboard cutout Sha Gojyo, Sanzo (x3), Cho Hakkai (x2), and Son Goku of (x2) from Saiyuki. The Sanzos were getting a bit violent and smacked one another with fans for a while before they finally organized and let me get the picture.

Image
The DNAngel cosplay meeting

After we all organized again, we headed out for lunch at Taco Bell, then wandered the dealer's room once more, where I saw a Dr. Faust (Guilty Gear) and a very very large Kyou Kara Maou poster at the Geneon booth. Ask SirThinks2Much - I spent a lot of time trying to glomp that poster.
Image Image

And again we bummed about and encountered possibly one of the most creative cosplays at the convention this year: Pimp Mario and Gangsta' Toad.
Image

I be dead. =3
Image

But not for long! O.O For I caught sight of both an Aoyagi Ritsuka (Loveless) and an Ashton Anchors (Star Ocean EX) cosplayer!
Image Image

Ingy wanted to give himself away. T_T Luckily no one tried to take him. (if you can't read the sign, it says "Free Kittens")
Image

After meeting up with Nightshade X, ikimasu, and Shooraijin, we hopped the Disney tram and headed off to Downtown Disney for a nice dinner.

I don't know what's going on with this trashcan:
Image

Our merry group on the tram.
Image

We were going too fast. The G-forces were just too much for Ingy to handle. </sarcasm>
Image

We had a lovely dinner at the House of Blues before I had to grab my brother and shove off. ^___^ It was a most lovely day.
Image Image

Stay tuned for more pictures and an overview of my other three days at the con, as well as the reason you shouldn't give Kokoro money and let her loose in the dealer's room.

Don't worry. It looks like he's registering as we speak, so you'll get your chance ... if you were a girl.

About the "kittens" sign:

I admit that I am a terrible, incurable attention uh... "wanter." Hence the sign, to attract more fangirls.

Didn't exactly work, at least not the way I hoped. Old man comes to me:

Old fool: Free kittens, huh?
Me: Yeah.
Old fool: I don't have no kittens.
Me: Oh.
Old fool: I have some cats, but... you wanna come home with me?
Me: (._.)

I discarded the stupid sign.

Things of note:
Ingemar cut his hair.
I've never seen a pic of Kali before.
I really want to go to a con sometime.

Also of note was the Masquerade on Sunday - it was quite interesting.

Lord of the Ninja - Sasuke goes for some Michael Flatley style revenge against Itachi. One of my favourites.

What happens when you load Windows on a Gundam? Well, apparently, it dances and plays random songs. Loads of laughs.

What was the secret power of the Magna Carta? You would know if you saw the skit.

And, of course, who could forget the fish dance.

...and it was all interspersed with an announcer making Monty Python jokes, and saying "It's cosplay, get used to it."
---
Also, I had the chance to perfect my ultimate attack, using the Fan of Cuteness - an ordinary plastic fan that they were giving away, turned into an ultimate weapon. Kokoro Daisuke, mobilesuitpilot, and Spammonite can also attest to its power.
---
I ran into a couple of friends of mine - Ishida Uryuu (in such a good costume that I almost didn't recognize him on Saturday - he was the best Ishida I saw all con) and Sailor Moon. Oh, and I don't mean a random person dressed up as Sailor Moon, she actually looks like the character in the anime even when she isn't in costume. (same face shape/body type/hair style)
---
Oh yeah, I went to the Gonzo panel with a few friends, and now I'm kind of interested to see what this "Afro Samurai" series will be like. (Samuel L. Jackson as... what?)
---
Also, something that made me sad. I saw more Scrapped Princess cosplayers than Last Exile cosplayers. :(

What made me sad was I saw more FMA cosplayers than any other type of cosplayer. XD;

And yes...o.o I'm glad I caught that Lord of the Ninja skit before I had to leave. <3

The Alphonse Elric was kind of cool, even if he did have about a million brothers.

At cosplay.com, I found a picture of the same Me-tan I found, but with her "sisters" and someone else:

I was hoping I'd find a random appearance of our group but I was sorely disappointed.

Yes. There was some one inside xD

And Ingemar, you included Pimped-Out Mario. I almost cried.

 It's too bad no one got a picture of the ramen and Naruto - that had to be one of the best moments of the con.

We were all standing outside surveying the cosplayers when someone says "Hey look, that guy's a box of ramen!" to which I comment "he better watch out for Naruto."

And sure enough a few minutes later the ramen box goes speeding by with a Naruto in hot pursuit.

I included every single picture I could find, even that gratuitous foot shot. Which brings me to my next regret--that I didn't stalk that Me-tan to find her "sisters" (though I did see their pics on cosplay.com).

I like cosplaying, and I wish I could do it all the time. Too bad there aren't more conventions, and they aren't closer. I would go to Comic Con, but I think 1). two cons in a month is enough 2). I don't even want to shell out the fifteen bucks to attend on Sunday.

Next Cosplay idea? *snicker* I want to go as Me-tan. Seriously. It wouldn't be as viscerally disgusting as Man Faye, but would have just enough shock value. Next time, I *WILL* bring my Arnis sticks. And hopefully I'll get in a fight with one of the multitudes of Inuyashas, and hopefully a girl. Then I will be arrested, but will gain notoriety and multitudes of fans. OK, let me just stop there, because I'm even creeping me out. Maybe I'll bring the Arnis sticks, and that's all. And maybe I can dress them up as negi.
