Question: In Japanese Culture...what do Red Dragon flies mean?

Postby ChristianKitsune » Mon Jun 27, 2005 11:54 am

Ahh It was such a beautiful moment..I walked outside to our pool...and to my amazement, I saw the reddest Dragon fly that I had ever seen...as I watched it dart majestically over the water...and as it skimmed past my head...I thought of something...In Samurai X: trust and Betrayel there are a lot of red dragon flies...I know it was some sort of symbol...but I can't remember what it was... can someone explain what the symbolism of Red Dragon flies are?

Googled it - found this::
Traditionally known as katsumushi or the "invincible insect", the
dragonfly was a favorite symbol of strength among Japanese warriors.
The dragonfly on the front of this helmet is done in gold laquer with
black and red markings.

Couldn't find anything about red ones, tho'.

either that or it was simply a motiff that the artist used in the making of the anime.

Could the red dragonflies in Samurai X represent all the blood that was shed during the bakumatsu?

I don`t think there is a particular meaning for the red ones...
