Free CPanel Web Hosting

I'm giving away Free CPanel Web Hosting

Postby Anime Dad » Sun Jun 19, 2005 7:29 pm

I have found myself with a reasonable amount of web hosting space available, so I've decided to offer it to CAA members free of charge.

Before I go any further, I would like to make it clear that this offer is by myself only and has nothing to do with CAA or any of it's staff or moderators. I have asked permission to post this and they have kindly agreed, other than that they have nothing to do with it.

Basically, as webmaster of my church, I had to find a reliable website host that offered PHP and MySQL, that was based in Australia (for payment purposes) and that had sufficient space for my needs. I actually found a fantastic deal for reseller webspace that cost less than what we were previously paying, even allowing for the cost of a domain name. This was great, as I have a couple of other sites that were hosted on free services.

Anyhow, I have all this space I don't need. I could have sold it, but I don't have the time to offer the backup that paid hosting would require.

So, what i'm offering is:
50MB space
500MB/month transfer
10 email addresses
5 FTP accounts
5 MySQL databases
PHP
MySQL
Cpanel
Fantastico with scripts installed.

Here's what's NOT allowed:
• Sites primarily in a language other than English (as I only speak/read English)
• Race hate or any such website
• Spamming in any form.
• Business/ commercial sites
• Pirated software
• Hacking programs or archives
• Warez sites
• Pornography of ANY type
• Images, movies or sound with which you are not or do not hold copyright privileges to.
• Streaming Video or Music
• IRC / Other Services
No IRC related services are to be run from our network at any time. This includes (but not limited to); eggdrops, IRCDs, BNCs and BitchX
• Any program or script that uses excessive system resources
• Anything else that causes the hosting company to complain, whatever it may be.

Please note that most of the above are prohibited by the hosting provider that i'm using, and I have no control over them, although I would probably have disallowed them anyway. If you don't agree, don't bother asking.

Possible uses could be:
Family site
Personal blog (yes, scrips for blogs come with Fantastico)
Church/Christian group site
Anime fan site (no sounds or videos)
Personal web page
Artwork gallery
etc, etc

I'm not going to tell you what you can do, just as long as you know what you can't. :P Judging by the calibre of people i've seen here it shouldn't be a problem anyway, but it has to be stated for the record. You should also be aware that I can, if necessary, view the contents of any site i'm hosting at any time. Not that I would, but It is possible. It's the same with all hosting.

Any site that doesn't follow these guidelines could be deleted without warning and the account closed. I would give warnings, though, unless there was a good reason not to.

I would prefer you have your own domain name, if you don't you could possibly get a cjb.net or .tk domain for free. Otherwise, your url will be username.bassmanhost.com.

I fully expect to continue with this for as many years as I need the hosting, so I won't be closing down without warning. If I ever do decide to close, I will give at least a month's warning beforehand.

Finally, I will not require any information from you other than a user name, and email address (required by the hosting software). I fully support CAA's privacy policy and will not do anything that goes against this.

If anyone is interested in this, after reading above, please PM me your preferred username (or domain name, if you have one) and email address, and i'll PM you the details back.

Whew, what a lot of typing :)

I'm definetly interested but I don't know if I'll have a website created for about two weeks. I'm working on it at the moment and will hopefully have a domain name by then also. I'm doing my website with Adobe ImageReady and Dreamweaver and using CSS (cascading style sheets) for a uniform and easier managed website. I'm still in the early learning stages though. I'm not sure if your host supports Dreamweaver websites.

My website would be a personal one for my thoughts, webcomics and eventually an eNovel. It would be for mature audiences (15 yrs and up) with some of the themes it has but definetly nothing against Christian belief's.

If none of these are a problem I would love to accept your offer!
Thanks!

Dreamweaver is just a program to help you code your site. I have it too. No problem, it'll just be a normal HTML site, it will work fine. Let me know when you're ready to go :)

Not trying to discourage you from learning to code your own site or anything, but have you considered using a CMS (content management system) such as Xoops? It makes updating your site so much easier, and it comes with the site. You just have to install it through the site control panel. (BTW i'm only suggesting Xoops because i've used it before, and I think it's great. But there's a lot of others available also, and already "preinstalled") If you wanted to experiment with a HTML site, you could just have a subfolder for that.

Nice to see another Aussie :)

Back!
Sorry, I was nowhere near a computer this weekend :)
I plan on keeping this going for as long as possible. If you read my post, you'll see the main reason I ended up with the hosting is that I needed it for my church's website. Since that will be needed basically forever, I will be keeping the hosting going as long as the site's needed. The only reason that would change is if the company who I bought the hosting from closed down, and I have no control over that :)
