I don't think I did much before I was dating my husband. But I have prayed about my Girls future husbands.
This is the day that the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.

I remember praying for my future husband, if the Lord willed me to marry. I would be happy with however he lead - single or married. I remember praying that I knew the Lord would take care of me and bless me with a wonderful man of God if He preferred me being married, and I would wait. He knew my heart better than me.

YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

Yup, I've prayed for him for years. That he would be strong in the Lord, totally on fire for God, that he'd lead our home...oh, I could go on for several hours.

Why shouldn't you pray for your future mate? They'll be a vital part of your life if you are called to be married (I've never doubted that call, lol)! I think it's great to pray for them...and I know my mom has been praying for me and my sibling's spouses since before we were born.

On the subject of letters and poetry...

My wife wrote me at least one before she met me. I thought it was kinda cool.

More than anything, I should pray for myself to be a good husband. I could really lose myself in what I want from a wife, but when it comes right down to it, I have to be worthy too. And I hope my future wife thinks the same.

I did that too. It didn't seem to weird him out when I showed them to him. :)

EDIT: *looks a few posts above* Yeah, I'm pretty sure it didn't weird him out.

I have been praying about my future wife for quite a while. Not praying that she will have any particular qualities, but just that God will watch over and protect her, that He will bring us together, and that He prepare us both for marriage until that time comes.

I also pray that God does in fact have someone for me, since I don't want to live a life of singlehood. If I am honest with myself I know that I could not tolerate such an existence. For that reason, I ask God to send someone into my life.

Don't worry, cbwing, my pastor has been doing a series of sermons on Genesis, and there's good news, my friend. Marriage is the natural order of Creation, we are meant to be married. For that reason, there IS someone for everyone. :D

Yes, there are SOME people with the gift of singleness that Paul mentions in the New Testament, people who are called by God to remain single for His purposes. That does happen; however, that gift is exceedingly rare, and those who have it know that they have it. Since you admit you would not be able to tolerate such an existence, it is quite obvious you don't have that gift, and so God will bring you to the right woman in time.

My pastor says that one should never assume that they have the gift of singleness merely because they do not have a mate at the current point in time. ^^

And you are not going to share? For shame! We are family here, ya know....

Yes, I pray about this all the time. I also like to pray that God will change me and make me perfect for my future wife. I even pray that God will NOT let me meet that someone until He says I'm ready.

I've prayed for my future husband as well; that he would be walking closely with the Lord, that I would know when he comes into my life and also that I will be able to grow with him as we walk together.

Yes, sometimes...although I would never say that in real life. I don't talk about such things very often, not even to my family.

Even though I may pray for these things, they will be a long time in coming. I have too much to do before I am ready to make that kind of commitment. I put my mind, heart, and soul into everything I do and I will not jump into something like marriage until I know that I am willing to lay down my life as a single woman for a fulfilling career as a wife and mother.

Children such as myself play with each others' hearts for many years before finding a lasting bond, and for some with marriage comes even more heartache due to the pattern of relationships they had before.
I do not wish to participate in this and therefore I won't be looking for a spouse for many years to come.

However, it doesn't hurt to pray...

I used to pray for my husband to be, but I haven't done so in quite a while now. Instead I pray for one of my friends to find her husband. She's had a really tough year (her dad died) and she's been waiting for God to send the right man along. It just seems like it would be perfect timing for it to happen for her, but I have to trust that God knows best.

On the actual topic, I have nothing I feel I should say.

That does happen]

Before I begin the intended point of my post, I should point out two things: I can't be entirely certain I really disagree with you, and I can't even begin to pretend I'm unbiased on this subject.

But with that in mind, I don't think I agree with your pastor entirely. Is the gift of singleness really all that uncommon? Perhaps; that is a point I'm not sure I want to argue. However, there are many people who remain single their entire lives, so even if they do not have this "gift" they must live without being married. I think that an expectation to marry fails to prepare people for the possibility that they will not be married. The gift of poverty (by which I mean the ability to be voluntarily poor to focus upon God) is also rare, but poverty is all too common.

In the same way, I don't think it is reasonable to hold that everyone has a single person for whom they are "destined." Love isn't a matter of a preordained meeting, but a conscious effort by both partners. "The right person" could change entirely based upon fairly arbitrary circumstances.

I have to come in and say my two cents for this one. Actually, if you take into account that 51% of the world's population is female and 49% of the population is male, it is impossible for there to be a destined someone for everyone... unless, that is, you are allowed numerous wives such as in Islam.

yup, I pray for my future husband. I just did that the other night too.
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone

Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!' ...you'll be a Man, my son!
