Stand-Up for Church

Postby HwaRang777 » Fri Jun 10, 2005 1:28 pm

Hey guys,

I recently suggested to one person that works at my church, is to have a stand-up comedy competition, where either one person or a group can compete with fairly clean material. Now, I am planning on competeing in it. So here are some lines from my pre-routine: (Note: some may have racial issues, but it's more of me dealing with my strict korean parents or me being korean than anything else) ()= act it out

You know you've found the right girl when you can throw a plasma-grenade and she won't make you sleep on the couch

You've always seen korean doctors, but then a friend of mine asked me, why aren't there any korean vets? Cause we'd eat them!!!

(in asian accent) "Sorry, Fido not make it" (pick at teeth)

Have you guy's ever been to a korean's open house? If you haven't the only people that are there are the parent's friends. And all they talk about is how smart there kids are. Yeah, my parents would talk to these people and they'd stay stuff like

(in asian accent) "My daughter get scholarship from Duke, What about you Hyung-Soo?"

and my dad would say (in asian accent) "Oh, uh, John, he do game, I must go now" (make painful yell, "stab" self with mic)

Arise now, arise, Riders of Théoden!
Dire deeds awake, dark is it eastward.
Let horse be bridled, horn be sounded
forth Eorlingas!

I don't get it.
There was a guy from my church who is into standup comedy. He competed in a radio competiton and was one of the finalists. Needless to say he was the only one with clean jokes, but they were really funny too!

Some of those weren't bad.

I like to see Christian comedians. The majority of those I have seen have actually been extremely funny without resorting to crudity. Though I don't actively seek out comedians, I've only seen a few that call themselves "Christian" and are low quality, and many that I found hilarious.

We had something similar at our church called "Last Laugh", named after how God got the last laugh at Satan when Jesus rose from the grave. Didn't get to go though because of work. Your stand-up's good! ^.^ Hope it goes well! Most importantly- have fun!

Have you ever seen the Bananas tv show? They have Christian comics who are absolutely hilarious. You can get it on dvd too.
