An Annoyance...

Talk about anything in here.

Definately agree with that analogy. There is a reason to differentiate "book store" and "library" as the latter would be the proper place to sit down and read for as much time as you need to. At a book store, it's perfectly fine to just sample the book for a few minutes and decide then if you're going to buy it. Some people in my experience just go there, read the whole thing, and not buy the manga. It just makes it worse when they take up that tight space for customers that actually use the store for what it's for.

Of course, this is where I shop. It hasn't gotten to the point where I will only buy manga online as to systematically avoid Borders\Waldenbooks for that reason.

I usually sit in Waldens and read the entire manga (although I do try to stay out of peoples' way) When I have money, I come back and buy it anyway, because I don't really read anything that I don't need as a next in the series thing or know that I absolutely must have it thing.

The choice has been made. There's no looking back. I won't let up, back up, give up, or shut up. My focus clear. My path is straight. My God, reliable. I'm a disciple of Christ.

Gods plan is like the sun. its too big and bright to look at directly, and sometimes the rain clouds cover it, but sometimes the plan dapples through the clouds and we can see beautiful glimpses of what he has in store for us.

Unfortunately when I go to the manga section... it ends up empty afterwards. The only time I stop is to read the back. I have a strange affliction that makes me buy boatloads of books and manga *stares horrified at books stacked around room* and yet almost never re-read them. I'm perfectly happy to buy, read once, and then stick on a shelf. Same with everything I buy i guess... except for cd's and this laptop.

Luckily, I don't buy clothes like this. Just entertainment stuff...

I guess I am what they call an impulsive shopper.

One of the book stores where I peruse/read manga that I'm considering buying has staff that sometimes give her hostile glances, but until the day they just out right tell me to never read manga in there again-- I'll keep doing it. And if they do tell me to stop, they're idiots. I mean, what are they going to say? "I know you've probably spent $300 in here, but you really need to just leave now. No standing and flipping through things."
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I usually just flip through and look at stuff that looks interesting. Still, there's something about actually buying and collecting them that feels so gewd. ^-^

Ok I admit to sitting down in aisles, but that's when I'm working in the
library and have to straigthen the shelves.

Actually I am a bit shy so I steer clear when anyone else is at the manga or
Sci Fi sections.

Aisle-blocking can be kind of fun - seriously, if you have enough people you can arrange yourselves so that you trap unsuspecting shoppers in various areas. They can't get out, so they go from aisle to aisle wondering what's going on. Try it and you'll see.

*note: Kaligraphic neither engages in nor endorses the trapping of bookstore customers, except under a strict catch-and-release policy*

(No, I don't actually do this.)

Oh, and:

ChristianRonin: Hey, check this one out.
CR's mother: Why is it wrapped? It's not something perverted, is it?
ChristianRonin: Chi-chigau yo!
CR's mother: (in a fit of violence) Hentai! Hentai! Hentai!
ChristianRonin: CHIGAU!
*a manga goes flying, and you see that the title is... Fruits Basket.*
The cake used to be a lie like you, but then it took a portal to the deception core.

Well, I usually stand back and search the shelf for the title I want... Still if some one is in my way/ blocking my view I don't have a problem with telling to to move their narrow/fat/stinky butts out of the way.
Okay, I never say that or really think it unless they act like they didn't hear me the first time. A simple "excuse me" usually works if they aren't polite enough to get out of the way when they notice some one obviously trying to get to the shelf. People are usually polite about those kinds of things though, saying excuse me when walking infront of people and such to get down an ailse.

Anyway, it does annoy me to see people reading books in the stores- not sampling, but sitting down in a chair or on the floor and reading them. I saw this girl the other day doing that in the manga ailse and she also had the nerve to sit her drink on the shelf. If I said anything to her I would have utterly blew up at her... she has a mother and father for that so I kept my mouth shut and let her mind her business. I was just thinking to myself this is one of the many reasons I buy my junk online.

I find *accidently* stepping on one of those peoples hands or ankles is a good way to break the line. ;)

I only seem to have this happen at the game strategy guide section, and I usually don't go there anymore, since they always seem to have the same guides there (they still have FFVII guides.)

ROFL.

Going on a slight tangent here, but does anyone else here push a cart into an aisle, then get the urge to start running as quickly as possible and let go?

In answer to the original post, it hasn't happened to me so much as it's possible that I've done it to others.

Yes, I did just admit to reading in the store. I do try to buy my favorite series (Excel, Lament of the Lamb, and JIng), but there are some things that my mother would have a fit if she caught my siblings reading. I.e. GTO and Tramps Like Us.

Anyway, I usually read standing up if anyone is around.
