I got in!

Talk about anything in here.

I got in!

Postby Ashley » Tue May 31, 2005 3:16 pm

I have great news, everyone.

A few of you already knew this, but after attending a missions conference with my pastoral staff this past March...I had a real life-changing revelation. I felt called to enter the ministry full time, especially in the area of missions. I wanted to be a full time missionary, and I knew it in a way I have never known anything else in my life. This was DEFINATELY my call.

But, problem was that I was attending a secular university on scholarship. Should I stay there? Should I look into seminary? I had no clue what to do next. Well, my pastors, parents and I prayed really hard and deep about it (even fasted for a while) and I decided I should apply to seminary. More specifically, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

After several weeks of forms, files, and nail-biting intensity, I just got a letter today:

I GOT IN!

So I am officially moving off to Fort Worth this August to start my missionary training. I'm sooooooooo excited about this. I don't know what it will mean for CAA as far as when I can get online and stuff from my dorm/apartment, howver I'm not even going to worry about it. Just thought I'd share the great news with you guys. ^^

Way to go, Ashley! That is so awesome! *jumps for joy on Ashley's behalf*

Yeah, don't worry; only relax.
And congrats, once again.
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone

YAY, ASHLEY!! God has taken care of you! I'll be praying that God will use this opportunity to its fullest protential.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

Thank you everyone. ^^ I knew you guys would rejoice with me.

Oh, and my degree right now is under "Bachelor of Arts and Humanities". I'm not sure if I will stick around for a masters of missiology (it's an accelerated program, so I could be done in like another 3 or 4 years) or if from there I will go straight to work for the IMB. But, the first step is already done!

Congratulations and best of luck!

PS. missiology? :)
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

CONGRATULATIONS, ASHLEY! May you be greatly blessed in this calling. I know the Lord has awesome things in store for you. ^______^

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

The study of young women.

As much as that made me crack up, missiology is actually the study/preparation for work in the mission field. I suppose it's going to be intensive cultural training, along with in depth biblical knowledge and evangelizing skills.

But thanks so much guys! I will be sure to keep you all updated as things develop.

Congratulations, Ashley!!

The choice has been made. There's no looking back. I won't let up, back up, give up, or shut up. My focus clear. My path is straight. My God, reliable. I'm a disciple of Christ.

Gods plan is like the sun. its too big and bright to look at directly, and sometimes the rain clouds cover it, but sometimes the plan dapples through the clouds and we can see beautiful glimpses of what he has in store for us.
