First: dear MODS, this really happened, and it is not a joke, therefore it SHOULD NOT BE DELETED or MOVED to the Goof-off section. Thank you.

Ok. I work at FUDDRUCKERS (edit). For those of you who don't know what that is, think of it as a clean, more elaborate and nicer version of Wendy's. Anyway, Tonight when i was working, a man with his toddler was ordering food from me, and behind him a lady was talking to his toddler son. What made me want to scream and then laugh at the same time was that she began to talk to the toddler as if he was a dog. The lady said the following, not word for word, but this is basically what she said:

"Awww, is't he pwecious? You like fuddrucker's Downt Chu? That's wright. That's why you're here."

Omgosh! I can understand like saying that about a baby. But this toddler was like 2 years old and walking around. And he was really shy. And this lady was like... scaring him! It was scary... and she was like, seriously talking to him like people talk to their dogs.

Do you guys do that same thing to other people's toddlers? Like... i dunno... it just seemed weird and wrong to me.

It bugs me when people talk to children like they are idiots.

these people are our future. If we treat them like they are morons, they might end up being morons.
I say cut this cutesy crap and treat kids like they are human!

I find it funny, your using cap letters when speaking to the staff. As if speaking to a dog or dumb child. If a thread is silly, its moved. Your wasting your breath posting stuff like that.

But somtimes it seems that threads are move when MODS just look at the title of the the thread.Im not saying it happens all the time nor that you guys do it on purpose. You guys do a good job, but somtimes some threads get moved that shouldn't get moved. I was just trying also in a side manner to keep the topic from getting "goof-off-ish." Sorry Shatterheart for ruffling your feathers.

Fuddrucukers? What a terrible name for a shop! And at first glance it does look like an offensive word.

Anyway, I think there is a problem were some people talk idiotically to young kids and not so young kids. They need to be treated like humans but... I don't know, its a difficult topic.

Yes. I remember what it was like to be a little kid. I wanted to be treated like a grown-up, not a pet. Its like people think they don't get brains until they're 12. I always shocked friends of my parents when I attemped to have an intellegent conversation with them with I was like, 10. It really hurt my feelings.

I'd say! I was thinking the same thing... dude.

CobaltAngel, while we're on that topic there's a shop in the city where I live called "Fcuk." No prizes for guessing what it subconciously makes one think. It gets a lot of attention and that's definetly the reason why they called it what they did. But it offends me. Others just think its funny. Oh, its a fashion store by the way.

I sometimes find this to be true. A friend of mine who's an animal lover tends to talk this way almost subconsciously. The words she says to her dog just come out as a habit and get mixed up with when she sees something cute like a toddler or even a six year old.

French Connection, United Kingdom. How do I know this? Metrosexual friends.

The one that I know had its ad campaing changed to 'French Connection'
Though the 30 dolla T-shirts still have the FCUK logo on them...

Then to be blunt, you know nothing about the staff or this site. A thread has never been tossed into goof-off or moved otherwise, that should not have been moved. 9 Times out of 10, we let threads go because we are nice. The hardline way the staff decided to run, was to delete threads on the wrong boards rather then move them. But most times, we are nice. If you don't like where threads get moved, don't pay your CAA bill next month. And you did not "ruffle" my feathers. Its just, once more that I have to correct an arrogant unthankful newb. Thats all. If you would like to take this futher, feel free to PM me with any more questions. Any more posts other then discussion of the original topic will be deleted. Consider this a warning.

I've actually heard that talking to little kids like that can make them permanently have high voices and bad speech because they are so impressionable. So not only is it kind of insulting, but it people do it too much, it can honestly mess kids up for life. Now that's scary.

I heard somewhere that talking baby talk helps babies learn vowels (because it exaggerates them). It's actually something that mothers in all cultures do. I guess it's genetic.

This could be something like that, just... exaggerated.

So, baby talk is useful, but it has its place.

Heh. You would be shocked to see the way most adults treat children. At the store I work at I get to see all sorts of familys come through. There are many types.

A. The lazy parents...who say nothing to the child as the kid delivers wrath to my shelf of salad dressing...the parent, most times a woman...has a cell phone glued to her ear as the child goes on a rampage.

B. Redneck style parents. Who really, clearly do not punish there children at home...and when they go wild at the store...the parents last recourse is yelling and cussing. Most times this is done by men...but there have been women doing this.

C. The invisable parent. The child is tearing stuff up with no parent in sight...this must be the horse herder style...where you let them run wild....

What I hate... is when children are scared of me...

So I never talk to children unless I have a really, really good reason, such as they talk to me first.

If a kid looks at me scared... I feel like a monster all day. :sniffle:

What, do you have hair like the guy in your avatar or something? Some kids just need a good dose of reality. They can't go through like being scared of everything. You can't look to scary Alice, can you?

Some parents just dont get it. Letting kids be destructive in public is outrageous! I think that sometimes they let the kids do it because they find it "cute." I know from personal experience that kids whose parents thinkany thing they do is sweet or cute end up being sassy little brats who have no respect for anyting or anybody. Man those people make me mad...

No, I'm not terribly scary. I think some children are just afraid of strangers. Probably should be, these days. :(

Man those people make me mad...

Sometimes there is a real discipline problem, but you really can't know that.

My parents raised me as well as they possibly could. But I was a horrible baby and child as far as emotionally and physically demanding go. I cried almost constantly, never sleeping for more than a couple hours at a time. When I was awake, I was into everything I could get my hands on. When I was with the other little kids at church, I fought with them and none of the other parents liked me much 'cause I bit their kids. ._. I was a little horror sometimes. My temper was extremely vicious sometimes and I was just an emotional little girl in general.

Nothing *really* worked on me for years. Nothing that changed my demeanor, at least. I was just a headstrong little kid, no matter what discipline I got.

I've calmed a lot since then. But I know that my parents earnestly tried to raise me well. I think they did. It just took a really long time for it to all click with me or something.

Anyway...
I plan on talking to my kids (when I have them), as "normally" as possible. I mean, if they can understand that "baby talk" that some people do around cute things, then they can understand undeformed speech.

I hate it when people talk like that...period. Whether it's a dog, a cat, a baby, a toddler, or a full-grown man. It's just plain annoying...-_-

OK, I think baby talk is fine as long is they baby is like one or one and a half, but only it's not TOO exaggerated. I think the problem though (at least for me) is that people get accustomed to talking to a child in baby-talk, and the child gets older but they're too used to it to change. Like a funny thing that happened to me recently, I was at church with Osaka, and a little girl walked past, and I was like, "Hava, come here sweetie!" I was being really baby-talky, just a little, and Osaka was like, "Don't talk to her like that, she's like five." And I was like, "No she's not! She's like three!" and somebody else was like, "No, she's five." It TOTALLY threw me off. All I could think was, "How did she get so old all the sudden?!?!?" I still think of her as two or three. One of those "I remember when you were this big" things that has started happening to me as I've gotten older, one of those things that I always swore I would never do. Man.

Isn't is strange?

There is a little girl next door who is six or seven. (Old enough that she goes to school, anyway.) She likes our dog, and loves to talk to people, but... I remember when she was a baby! And before she was born!

It's strange to now be the one thinking (if not saying), "you've gotten so big."
