Help With Dreams

Postby haru_bay_nay » Sun May 22, 2005 2:09 pm

I've seen similar threads, but nothing exactly like this. I used to barely ever remember my dreams, and when I did they seemed like just stupid things that didn't mean much. But lately, I remember one or more of them every morning when I wake up, and I think about them long after I've awoken. These dreams can feel anywhere from more liberating and fantastic than anything in reality, to dark and extremely disturbing. Also, lots of people claim to have dreams that are complete nonsense and that the things said or done in them have no obvious connection. Mine, however, always have a sensible order of events and usually are very realistic and believable. In fact, I've even written one down and am developing it into a story, along with many others with which I'm considering doing the same.

I am beginning to think that these dreams have important meaning. Can anyone tell me what they mean? If I get a response, I'll post some of them as best as I can recall.

The coolest dream that I've ever had was about 5 years ago! (It was that cool, ....or really memorable) I was exploring the ruins of an old church in the woods. It was made of large stone blocks like a castle. The walls were covered with ivy and moss and there was no roof. It was really bright. Didn't get very far into the dream though cause then I either woke up or had another dream. It was sweat.

I'm not sure exactly how dreams work, but I think sometimes they may play out your worries and feelings that you have that are troubling you. Once I had this really vivid dream that made me feel extremely sad when I woke up. When I thought back through its events, I realised that the underlying 'theme' was actually how I was feeling at the time -a little out of my depth, betrayed, etc.
I've heard that dreams work out the problems and things you've thought about during the day. Maybe sometimes they help to resolve how you're feeling -other times they just play, in an allegorical way I guess, how you are feeling without coming to a resolution or anything. *shrugs*
Dreams are very interesting things.

That being said, dreams can sometimes be used by God to tell you things. Afterall, it happened all the time in the Old Testament and even in the New (remember with Peter and the animals?). Anyway, its a very good idea to write them down, that way if sometime in the future something happens to remind you of the dream you can read exactly what happened and see if God was talking to you then.

Probobly one hundred percent coincidence but I had a similair extemely memorable dream. :P which is surprising because I know that I have had a million more exiting ones that I normally wouldn't remember. Was there a square pond out front with dark water. video game like graphics, with the bright light being volumetric ( where it reflects off of dust in the air and therefore the light appears visible even when it is only in the air and not reflecting off of somthing. :)

Absolutly insane, but seeing how you mentioned it I thought I might as well.

one must be careful when dealing with dreams, sometimes they are the means by which God chooses to communicate with us, sometimes they are just the result of us eating something right before bed, i feel that in order to discern the difference, we must pray for clarity and for a way in which the Lord can show us which are of Him, and which are not, not only that, but it is God who interprets these dreams too, that capacity comes from nowhere else

Yes, I've heard those theories that some of you mentioned about your mind sorting things out/solving problems, and I whole-heartedly believe that God can communicate through dreams. I think He might be trying to get through to me now, actually.

Chocobo777 and Pascal, that place you're describing reminds me of the Forest Temple in Zelda:OoT! Maybe I'm just a freak...^_^

All right, since I got some feedback, I guess I'll describe one of my dreams...

It starts with me in a beautiful little village, surrounded by forests, which are bordered by large mountains on all sides. Everything is fine and peaceful. I look almost identical to what I look like now, but no one else from real life is there. I have 2 guy best friends: one named Sora, and the other I never remember hearing. I recall Sora looking Japanese, only pretty tall. I can't remember boy #2's features, either. Anyway, all of a sudden, the setting fast-forwards to me running away from something in fear. The sky turns black, and then I can't see, as a huge blizzard covers everything in snow. Next thing I know, I'm in the middle of nowhere, following a big group of people while I trudge through snow. The storm is still blowing. I somehow know that my 2 friends are back home, acting as soldiers/guards to protect the town from an unknown force. I, on the other hand, am with a search party, looking for nearby villages in the mountain range that will provide our village with necessities. I carry a big battleaxe for some reason. Soon after, I learn that Sora and the other boy have been killed protecting the town. I have an immense feeling of guilt; like the whole desperate situation is my fault. I vaguely remember a part soon after about me being separated from the search party and injured by something/someone, and being all alone. A bit later, I come out of the mountains into a different valley, which is green and warm, like my home. There, I find a single large building, resembling a cross between an industrial factory and the middle school I attend in real life. It's very dark and ominous. I enter through a back door. The room I enter appears to be a backstage-type area, complete with sandbags, but with some out-of-place things like bloody weapons and such. It's devoid of life, but as I walk past another door, a hand grabs me and pulls me inside. Two hooded figures clad in dark robes with hoods stand in front of me, their faces shrouded in darkness. I'm afraid, but then they both pull back their hoods to reveal...That they are my 2 best friends who I heard were dead! Then, we sneak out, trying to stay hidden from some person/people in the weird building. After that, I woke up.

Wow! That's long! Sorry! I just wanted to put down everything that was in the dream. Also, throughout the dream, I thought that some evil and all-powerful organization/army were the ones who were attacking my village(the reason it needed to be protected), and that they also caused the blizzard, and were in charge of the freaky building where my friends were.

Any ideas on what this huge rambling story could possibly mean?

When I read your dream one thing kept coming to me; that the interpretation of this dream is something only you can answer.

Perhaps just thinking about it a little will unlock the answer to what parts of your dream are "real" and what was just background noise/nonsense, but taking things to God in prayer first is always the best way to go to find answers;

I suppose you're right, Hoshika, but I've been trying to do that for a long time, especially with this particular dream. Maybe I should think about it more, though.

Did anyone find it odd that my dreams play out like stories? O.o

I have had similar dreams that play out like stories, where someone is chasing me and there's all this suspense and intrigue... I've also had one or two dreams that I know God used to speak to me. However, I think that most of the time, dreams are just dreams. If you think God is speaking to you in your dreams, definitely pray about it and ask Him to confirm the message through another means as well. Dreams are tricky, and we have to be careful not to put too much stock in nebulous things.

Tricky subject. Dreams can range from being God-inspired, the result of what entertainment you view, prophetic, sexual, horrific, demonically inspired or just plain bizzare. Each one can be instigated by completely different things. Man can try, but we will never completely figure out the mystery of dreams till we get to heaven. I like to think that many dreams are the results of the thoughts of our subconcious put into pictures, this might explain why our dreams seem to represent things about oursleves and what's going on in our lives. Not neccesarily correct, and certainly doesn't apply to all types of dreams, but a plausible theory in my opinion.

*sniffle* Why?

haru_bay_nay, I think your dreams are partially stress, partially imagination. Just my opinion, but have you been stressed about something, school maybe?
I'm in love with this song!!
Lion
Mysterious, that's what I call you.
I'm curious about you.
I'm scared and I'm not sure that you are safe.
But, something in your eyes says you are good.
This is not a dream that I'm living,
this is just a world of your own.
You took me from all that I knew,
showed me how it feels to hope.
With you with me, facing tomorrow together,
I could learn to fly.
It feels like I'm living in the lion's mouth,
but the lion is an angel.
Wise eyes, you see the core of me.
Your gentleness melts me.
Now I know that words cannot describe
the power that I feel when I'm with you.
This is not a dream that I'm living,
this is just a world of your own.
You took me from all that I knew,
showed me how it feels to hope.
With you with me, facing tomorrow together,
I could learn to fly.
It feels like I'm living in the lion's mouth,
but the lion is...
peace and power
love forever.
Who am I to stand before you?
I am speechless,
but in my weakness you are here and all is well.

Shadowchild is my imoto-chan!! ^_^

I've had several dreams like that, some multiple times, but i think it's just my hyperactive imagination at work as normal...

I wish I could remember at least 5% of my dreams somewhat vivadly. It stinks. I can never remember any. ANd when I do, I can just barely recall some stuff from it. Once in a while I will have a dream I remember well. Funny thing is when I do some of the stuff from that dream seems to come true a few days later. If I could remember more of my dreams I'm sure I could come up with better stories to write. (Maybe I will someday).

Thanks for your theories and thoughts, guys. They're helpful. And yes, I have an EXTREMELY overactive imagination, plus I'm constantly under stress...Those could definitely be contributing factors. Still, I have a weird feeling about them. I'll pray some more.

Completely off topic and nothing to do with the last post I made, but I was wondering if anyone has also felt the same way. Sometimes in dreams, due to their length and often suspence I make REALLY good friends, or play the coolest games. Yet when I wake up they completely vanish. Worse yet I realise upon waking up that they never even existed for all those imaginary years in my dreams (it does feel like sometimes doesn't it?). When I was younger I used to wish to meet these same individuals again the next night to "continue" where our adventure left off. Unfortunately we have very little control over the events in our dreams, however I can recall a few experiences when I could bring back the same individuals, but rarely the same story. Even a few where I could control absolutely everything, energy, flying. Those were cool, but as I have grown older my long dreams and their elaborate stories have all vanished. I think I still have dreams, but no longer can I even begin to remember anything from them the next day. Rather strange seeing as the events that normally occur in our dreams would be remembered for a lifetime if they occured in real life.
One other cool feature of dreams I would like to point out, what colors do you dream in . I dream in all colors but mostly my dreams are darker, (even if I'm outside during the day) but I have heard that other people dream completely in black and white, or with only browns, or limited colors. I also have sounds in my dreams, sometimes between completely falling asleep and being awake I will pick up one of these sounds, (normally a really loud bang like an atomic bomb went off next to my ear), which of course wakes me up and scares the living daylights outta me. Anyways as you can tell I am really board tonight :P
Forgive my lack of punctuation, guess at wierd grammar,

i havent had much trouble with dreams (once i had a dream i was being chased by giant moose heads with teeth and raptors through a factory of sorts with slime everywhere, but i had whitecastle before i went to bed on that one so i dont think that counts to much) but during my sleep when i have been over at freinds houses my freinds tell me i say weird things in sleep that i would never say in real life. once a freind was over and when i was asleep he said i raised up grabbed a wooden sword of the wall swung it over my head screamed "jacob give me my sword" (i didnt know any jacobs at the time) then fell back down (like sleep walking). also with another time with a different set of freinds i was asleep and they told me i screamed out "unholy terror" and started mumbling then was quite. and the final time i know about is the same freinds (as the unholy terror one) where poking me in my sleep and a cussed at them (which i wouldnt do when awake). also i have heard almost every time i spend the night i either mumble inanely in my sleep or say frightening things, my parents also say i do stuff like this in sleep and kick, fight, toss and turn, and such plus the talking. so i dont think i have many horrible dreams, i just do disturbing things and say disturbing things in my sleep

I have regular dreams like everyone else, then I have these special dreams. These special dreams are more like visions of the future and they really happen, just like the dream. I been having a lot those dreams that come true for years now. Most of time if I dream those kind of dreams I totally forget them, until the event that happen in my dream happens, and I realize that I saw this in my dream.

Dreams are a mix of everything in your head. God somtimes uses them to teach or tell you somthing...and somtimes its nothing logical. Many times my dreams have a deeper meaning...it just takes me a while to try to figure them out. ^^

I am sure you have already heard this in one way or another, but dreams are God's way of telling us something or the visualization of feelings/emotions/worries ect... that yuo may be having lately. Is there something you can't get your mind off? Is there something you know you should be doing? These are only things that you can answer. OUr minds are an amazing piece of work created by God and he has reasons for everything it does! ^^
Hope it helps ^^''

Pascal: Yeah!!! Dude, I totally know what you're talking about!...Except, I still have those types of dreams...Ones that are so vivid and real, and that when you wake up, you're sad that they're gone. Mind you, this only started recently. And about the colors, I dream in all different ones. Is that weird? Also, the dreams that you have control over are called "lucid dreams" and I've had some of those, too. Very fun. ^_^

desperado: I have a friend that does the same sort if thing. She will have whole conversations with you about really weird things, and often scares the jeepers out of people by standing right next to their bed and staring at them while still asleep. I've done stuff like that, too. When my mom woke me up one morning, I vehemently told her that it was definitely not 6 o'clock. Also, I have screamed for someone to get out of my room while sleeping. The best incident was one night when my mom woke me up, I cried in a very upset voice, "But...But...We don't have any bananas!!!!" O.o Strange.

Otaku10: I've had that distinct feeling as if I'd dreamed what happened in real life as well, and I think that's what deja vu is.

Shatterheart and KisaTohru: I do think that something is trying to be conveyed through them. I can't think of anything in particular that God really, really wants me to do... And, who knows? Maybe these dreams were all just brought on by the stress of the end of the school year, but now that it's out, you'd think they'd have stopped, wouldn't you? I dunno... I'll just have to keep praying.

You guys are great! Feel free to post any theories, stories, dreams, experiences, etc. that you want. Thanks!
