They're either one or the other. If they were wolves you wouldn't see too many coyotes
Wildlife folk and ask them if there are any wolves in your area before you
do anything else.

If they're not suppose to be there, they need to go. Especially if people aren't prepared to live near them.

They could be wolves...then again they might be large coyotes.Wolves are not the only thing that can howel. Contact a local game warden. (wonders if they exist outside of Maine...) I am sure you state has a game and wildlife board. They would be the best to contact. Considering how much wolves are loved...I don't think you have to worry about them being shot. More then likely if they are a pest...they will reloacate them.
No, they aren't coyotes. I saw them once and one was pure white, and like I think I said, a friend saw one and it was black. Coyotes are never white or black. And they couldn't be stray dogs because when I saw them, I saw three and they all looked exactly the same except for the coloring. I think I also said that I heard one howling, and it wasn't a coyote's howl or a dog's. It sounded like a wolf howl from a movie.A rogue wolf become highly opportunistic and will scavange and hunt for easy prey, that means small pets, trash, and unaware hikers (Do you have trails by where you live?)
It's a pack of at least three, and also there has never been a verified case where a non-rabid wild wolf has attacked a human. So I'm not in any danger. I've gone out at night to let out my dog and they seem to like to come up to the edge of the woods and watch me. I never see them, but I hear them. It's funny. I'll make a little noise and they'll take off.
I'm going to call the wildlife officials. I don't want to call Animal Control--the "control" part just doesn't seem right.
On the other hand, deer--especially bucks--are extremely dangerous when they want to be. Especially around mating season. o_O
The reason for that would be...Heart of Sword wrote:these same people would be absolutely terrified if they ever saw a wolf trotting by.
