First, a small note. Please, PLEASE do not delete this. It actually does have something to do with anime. Now... on with the show!

http://www.dare2share.org/-1999997895/-1999949771/-1999561142.htm

Come on, somebody click this! It's about something that happened in Ohio with a Christian conference and Anime conference booked at the same time. Read this and answer me this: is this not the most wickedly awesome thing you ever read?! I read it a few minutes ago and I just had to share it. However... please don't hurt me if I found this a bit late. Apparently, I have a knack for that.

I had a small heart attack at the mention of "gigantic crosses that double as rocket launchers" and a slightly larger one at the mention of Vic Mignogna. This is really awesome, and I wish I could have been there.
Think happy thoughts.

Dude, that is so great! God put them there for a reason. I wish I could have been there- for both conventions!

I believe that AX and a convention of a Christian or Catholic nature shared the Anaheim convention center last year. Sadly most of the people n the other side of the center (I was attending AX at the time) shot everyone disapproving glares. =/ That really broke my heart.

Interesting Article. Although many christians can be scornful towards the concept of anime, it's nice to see someone bridge the gap between them two.

It's good to see that kind of interaction. Most Christians I know hate anime, and most anime fans I know have a virulent hatred of Christianity, so God bless these guys and God bless CAA.

"The advice I like to give young artists, or really anybody who’ll listen to me, is not to wait around for inspiration. Inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just show up and get to work. If you wait around for the clouds to part and a bolt of lightning to strike you in the brain, you are not going to make an awful lot of work. All the best ideas come out of the process; they come out of the work itself. Things occur to you. If you’re sitting around trying to dream up a great art idea, you can sit there a long time before anything happens. But if you just get to work, something will occur to you and something else will occur to you and something else that you reject will push you in another direction. Inspiration is absolutely unnecessary and somehow deceptive. You feel like you need this great idea before you can get down to work, and I find that’s almost never the case." - Chuck Close[/color]

That is great! Though I'm not all that fond of voice actors from Funimation, I must say I had to swallow my pride to admire that... That was incredible...

It's worth pondering what you might do if you were in a similar situation. Say we were at the anime convention and the Christians were not sure how to handle us. What do you do?

there was a christian conference going on during ohayocon. heard quite a few people calling us "star wars freaks" "upstarts" and other general terms. kind of angered me untill a couple kids did a card trick for our group then shared about Christ (that is a good thing sense most of my group is not converted.) then it was soso. a lot of people where turned off though due to name calling from some people from the Christian convention.

Haha! That is so awesome! Isn't it amazing how God can do the most unexpected things like that? ^_^ Man, had I been on that trip with my youth group or whatever, I would have wanted to go dress up, too! Man...that'd be great!! It's sad, though, how some people can still be so vicious, even when they are Christians. I think that it's so cool how that happened, though! ^_^

Yeah I checked out Vic's website and he also does work with music/sound recording for Christian bands and also does film production; he's working on some Pearl Harbor movie called "Forgiven" right now. I emailed him about this article specifically to let him know what an encouragement he'd been. He even responded! What's really cool for me is that I have already seen him in a bunch of shows and didn't even realize it (Mamoru in Rahxephon, Tatsu in Peacemaker, and also in Full Metal Panic just to name a few)!

Why can't more Christians realize that there's a common ground between so many religions? If they could, evangelization would be so much easier. But no, we'd rather be like Puritans instead of missionaries. :shady:

Did anyone else note that most of the kids attending the Christian conference tended to be from the more conservative denominations?
I didn't see any mention of anyone from Presbyterian,Reformed or
United Church of Christ.
I wonder how many Christians were in attendance at the Anime Con.
Now that would have been an real eye opener!

Are you making a negative implication towards "conservative" denominations? :eyebrow: Sorry if that's not the case, but it looked that way to me.

Anyway, this is flippin' awesome! This is seriously the coolest thing of all time! I've only seen Vic Mignona in Full Metal Alchemist, but have heard of all of his previous work and I think he did a great job as a voiceover, which doesn't happen extremely often. Plus, he's a Christian, which is news to me! The only other person that I've seen that was even similar to this is Johnny Yong Bosch, the voiceover of Vash, who is the lead singer of a Christian alternative rock band, I believe. Weird, huh?

I wish I would have been there...

Actually, I don't quite remember where I got the info, but the band has its own website, which includes info, pics, samples of some of their music, chat forums, etc. The website is http://www.eyeshine.net. It's so cool! The band members actually post in the forum, and I think it gives all of their e-mail adresses as well, so you can really talk to them!

Vic's website is http://www.vicsworld.net. He's a really cool guy! Yeah I know one might be a little thrown off considering some of the language that his characters use, but bear some things in mind: 1. It's acting, thus it's not a reflection of his own personality per se 2. It's a small "price" to pay in my mind if you're being given the opportunity to be salt and light in an environment that needs the Gospel as much as any other 3. God uses plenty of other Christian artists (actors, artists, musicians) that do are in similar situations (example: Mel Gibson cussess in a lot of his films). Chekc out the website though; it's pretty neat to see what's he's doing, both in the world of anime and other stuff!

PS- wasn't trying to "come down" on you at all ChristianRonin, just explaining stuff.
