Mai-HiME had a great soundtrack.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I thought the music for .hack went perfectly as well. I also think the music for Noir was fantastic, even though I wasn't all that fond of the anime as a whole.

Other good matches for music and anime are Azumanga Daioh and Kare Kano. Both had good music that fit well with the action on screen.

.hack//SIGN, Cowboy Bebop (the best example, in my opinion), Escaflowne, Wolf's Rain. I really enjoyed the OP and ED for Kyou Kara Maou! too, but those are the only tracks from that series that specifically come to mind at the moment.

Aside from .hack//sign and Wolf's Rain, which have already been mentioned, Hellsing and Vampire Princess Miyu come to mind. The Miyu soundtrack wasn't absolutely the best music I have heard, but it is fairly good, and it fits the atmosphere of the series quite well.

Just about all music from japan is fitting for anime. though I never liked the music in most animes, just because its so different from what I really like. Cowboy bebop has the best music imo. Just because its different from waht ive heard before. I kinda like how in some of the DBZ movies being released, have american music for the fight scences.

Probably the most fitting music I've ever found for any anime was Kiki's Delivery Service (the original score - not the english dubs).

Wow.

I thought the music for last exile was wonderful, and gave the series the feel taht it had.

-Pocket Monsters. Most dub watchers probably don't know this, since 4Kids sticks in alot of their crappy, low quality junk. But the Japanese music is actually very good, and the movie music is fantastic, especially Mewtwo Strikes Back. Great fight music as well as dramatic and adventurous stuff. The music when the Pokemon are fighting and it starts to take its toll on them is very sad and moving, and really helps illustrate the message. And the music in the Satoshi death scene is just incredible. :sniffle: :)
-Spirited Away. I LOVE this score. Hisaishi Joe is da man. Such beautiful, high quality music.
-Princess Mononoke. Another Oscar-worthy score by Hisaishi-san.
-Ai Yori Aoshi. Great love-oriented music. Very touching. And I LOVE how alot of it has a very traditional Japanese sound to it. ^^
-InuYasha. Alot of great fight music, and even better music for romance and drama. Also has alot of traditional Japanese-sounding stuff. ^^

Others, like the other Miyazaki films, Fullmetal Alchemist, the Rurouni Kenshin OVAs, etc. are also excellent.

The first season of Beyblade has nice orchestral music. It really gave an epic proportion to an otherwise unwieldy toy anime(the music in the original Japanese, not the crappy music and songs in the English dub).

I think Cowboy Bebop is absolutely the best example of music created for an anime! What other ONE-SEASON anime spawned like four different soundtrack albums?

.hack//sign fould be a good runner-up. While I didn't like the series all that much, the music is great.

The Last Exile soundtrack is very good as well.

I think these are the best as far as overall soundtrack albums that I've heard. Most of the songs on these CD's, whether with vocals or instrumental, stand strong on their own, not as filler music.

Other soundtracks that have some really good music on them (but some filler as well...)

Witch Hunter Robin (Shell, Half Pain, and Kyrie)
Wolf's Rain (Gravity)
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (Lithium Flower, especially)

There are others, but these are the ones that come to mind immediately...

YES!!! lol, I've desparately wanted to find a place to download a couple of those songs for awhile now.

Amen to everyone who said Yoko Kanno stuff(especially Wolf's Rain :jump: ) and also the Miyazaki-movie stuff by Joe Hisaichi(sp?) aaah..I want those soundtracks so bad.

Witch Hunter Robin, Last Exile, and dont forget Big O!!!

Also, I have a particular fondness for the music in Rozen Maiden( so cool!) and Xenosaga. I would promote the opening sequence music from Tsukiyomi Moon Phase too, but since the credits music made me want to violently kill someone....yeah. oh well. haha.

I'm sure there's lots more too...

It's an older one, but it occures to me that Bubblegum Crisis also fits this category nicely. (You have to be expecting glam rock, though, lol).

Well, now ain't my "collection" to select from so large, but .hack//SIGN and Naruto...
Both these series have fitting music, and I think they are both great. In Naruto, I especially think The Raising Fighting Spirit is really good music when a fight really starts (When both fighters is getting serious :P).
.hack//SIGN OST is the best soundtrack (and maybe best music :P) I've ever heard! :D

I just downloaded the full version of Inner Universe (GITS: SAC theme song) and I think it should fit under this catagory. Stand Alone Complex has rockin' music that I think goes well with the series. My vote goes for Cowboy Bebop too.

Recently:

GITS:SAC: Good mix of rocky punky stuff.

MAI HIME / MAI OTOME. Beautiful vocals plus driving music that puts you at risk of speeding tickets. (Yes I once got pulled over goin' 81 while listening to 'Conflict For Break' off the Aquarian Age OST. If you drive so that the center lane stripes match the beat as they disappear under your hood, it's 81mph. Or so I was informed by the kindly Washington State Patrol. He let me off though...!)

AVENGER OST. The OP Sounds like the Rozen Maiden OP on fine Middle Eastern hashish.

Special Mention goes to TRINITY BLOOD for mix of orchestral, fun Latin guitar, J-rock and even one cut you think came from 'Firefly...'

BEST in YEARS: SOUSEI NO AQUARION!!!
Overblown Wagnerian orchestral fun (redline it past R. Wagner and put it into Bruckner territory) but also rocky mech-combat fun and one dizzy, accidentally romantic piece to boot.

And another special mention for the Warsaw Philly & Chorus doing the G-music for ACE COMBAT 5. They must be 'on sale' or something...

letsee....

Kajiura Yuki is amazing with her composing^^ .hack//SIGN and Noir were AMAZING, and Tsubasa and .hack//Roots are pretty fitting too^^

Rozen Maiden and Traumend (although Traumend's opening theme is ALOT like Root's ending... hmm...) pretty dolly themes...

Advent Children^^ Yay Nobou! (Of course it's fitting, it's FF7!)

And yeah, Hisaishi is AMAZING in his work too^^ Mononoke's theme and even Nausicaas... very appropriate tunes.

I also have to mention that Chobits oldieish tunes REALLY suited the show's theme too^^

Wolf Rain and Escaflowne too with Yoko...

The Digimon OST... THOSE were great too!

Elfen Lied's OST was very haunting, but very appropriate...

Inuyasha... gotta mention that too!

Kenshin... especially the violin themes for the Kyoto arc^^

...and that's all that comes to mind^^

Air. I was re-watching some episodes today, and I absolutely LOVE the music. The instrumental music is very fitting and so gorgeous, and the music with lyrics is wonderful, too.

Also, Castle in the Sky. I recently watched it, and I think the music is incredible. It fits the movie very well, and it's just so pretty. :D
