My comp was hacked. I now have adware. I got free adware removers (ad aware but it keeps coming back please help

Run the adware removers (Adaware and Spybot Search & Destroy, I assume) in safe mode. Safe mode is chosen when Windows loads; I believe you press F8 while it's booting in the beginning.

unplug your network cord or whatever, reboot your comp in safe mode, run virus scan, then spybot, then adaware. Reboot, replug in your network cord, and reboot one more time.

I hope you're not using Norton. I find their services the worst, as they detect but can't remove many malware.

I'm with Shatterheart on Firefox. I find my temp files I delete every day are a fraction of what they are under IE... Nowadays I only use IE for when I have to get updates from Windows

You mean like Stopzilla and their 3rd party cookies?

It's a better alternative to IE

Hmm, that's amusing, an efficient counter to adware is to use software from a company who had put out known spyware? Is it prudent for once (pardon the pun) to have the fox keep watch over the hen-house?

Actually I am speaking from first hand expierence. I had spyware that 6 programs could not remove, got Firefox and trashed IE...and have lived happily ever after. Short view? IE is the biggest piece of trash I have ever seen...and I feel sorry for people who use it.

IE is one of the most piece of crap programs I have ever used. Once I got Firefox, I never had spyware problems ever again. Got rid of the pop ups too.

I intended more of a bemused commentary than an actual argument against your suggestion. I don't use Internet Explorer, in large part due to my dislike of its instability, but I still by no means will give them the honor of willingly loading any of their software onto my computer and using it. As to my own browser preference, I use Opera, though I can't vouch for any more than its usefullness and general stability.

Really? Most reviews I saw pointed out it's tendency to crash.

Eh, I do prefer Firefox to IE, but IE isn't all that bad. Probably because I have to use for at least 5 hours a day when I'm doing schoolwork. *o* I never knew you could make a toolbar-ish link thing with IE until about two days ago. ^^ It's one of the Firefox-ish things that I wished IE had. Anyway, XD;;; I kinda like it. I've been using it more often, actually.

Anyway, I use Norton's Internet Security and also McAfee's AntiSpyware. So far, I've been absolutely safe and no problem that has arisen was unable to be solved. If what everyone else has suggested doesn't work, you might want to consider buying one of those, or at least doing a trial of them. It would (most likely) get rid of your problem. If worse comes to worse, reformat. Good luck!

Meh, its not so bad, though I notice there are some things it simply doesn't like doing, and crashes tend to accumulate around these.

Makes sense. Perhaps the reviewers tended to do a lot of those things...

I've only had Firefox crash once since I installed it (as opposed to once a day with IE) and that was a problem with Quicktime.

For whatever reason...the only time Firefox ever gives me trouble, if I am using YIM and I try to click a link in it. It trys to use IE for some reason...crashes the whole IM program.

That could be your default browser being set to IE, but I suspect that's not the case.
