Trying to go somewhere you can't picture??

I don't know about you guys but I have been thinking about Heaven a lot lately. I know I'm supposed and I'm trying to go there. But for some reason I can't picture being in Heaven for eternity. :(

Well, neither can I! If you think about it too much, you'll be staying awake the whole night trying to figure it all out.
That's where faith comes in, I guess. Our minds can't comprehend spending eternity anywhere, but I've had to learn to accept it as fact by faith.
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone
And so hold on when there is nothing left in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!' ...you'll be a Man, my son!

I've always been weirded out whenever my friends talk about flying around heaven with their deceased dog Fido and living in a castle. I believe that heaven in truly beyond human comprehension. The closest I can come is picturing a realm of light and warmth, filled with God's presence and all the others that came before, where everything is indiscribable and our physical forms as we know them are gone. Maybe it's kinda like our eyes are shut in this world and when we move on to the afterlife, they will finally open. Kinda like that veil metaphor that Gandalf uses in LoTR...

The bigger problem I have with heaven is the idea that sin cannot exist there. I just keep thinking that human beings are such flawed and messed up creatures, if you take away our sinful natures is our individuality still left? It's definitely going to be a major change when we make it to heaven. And yes, I am aware that that view is terribly pessimistic and worldly. I prolly need to do something about it.

 I do that, haha

I tried/still try to understand, I think alot about the word 'forever'. Yes, I don't think we can really do anything about it, just let God come up with it since He knows everything?

But don't worry, I think every one starts to think about this sometimes. And thinking is good!

(and.. this message is not very good...) :eh:

I agree with this to a certain point...
I totally believe that heaven is beyond our comprehension...
I guess that is all I have ever really thought about it, though...
When I think about death and dying I am not afraid...because, to me, even though I know that I have done wrong in my life, all I can think about is that God is there and that if I remain on the path I currently am on, I will one day be there, with him.
To me, that is all that I can imagine,His presence. His and those that came before....just as lizardqueen said.

This is more or less nitpicking, but: are we trying to get to heaven? In my mind, being Christian is about living a godly life here on Earth. Our eyes may be set on eternity, but the reason that this matters is that it should change our actions here to make us better people. Heaven is merely the result of this, not the goal.

That having been said, I agree that human minds cannot truly handle eternity. The concept is that in heaven we will not be merely immortal (which would, given enough time, lead to insanity) but instead become eternal. Here, we'll never be able to comprehend that.

When it comes to Heaven I perfer the classic allusion of it as a garden or
orchard. :)
I somehow can't cope with the idea of Heaven as being some sort of
Uber-church service the way some people do.
