Much ado about hugging

Talk about anything in here.

Postby Ducky » Wed Apr 20, 2005 10:55 am

1. The lower parts of the body must remain at LEAST three inches apart.

2. When hugging, you must slap the other man on the back twice, perhaps three times if they are an extremely close friend. Once this has been accomplished, the hug is IMMEDIATELY considered to be over, and you must separate at once

 That cracks me up...we have hugging camps and hugging protocol here now.

I'm big on hugging my little sibs, especially tickle-hugs . The people in my dorm tend to be huggy so I tolerate it from them, but I've discovered that contrary to my usual behavior I enjoy physical contact with my closest friends ie roommate and my 3 best friends from home. (they are prone to be jumped on and then hung onto should they mention plato or other stalkers after dark.)

I'm a huggy person XD we don't do the shake hands thing much down here in the south, even when you first meet a person it's, hug, pat pat on the back, release and "nice to meet ya" XD I don't like hugging guys close to my age though, cuz' I'm somewhat shy :red:

Heh. I like to hug people. I don't have very many friends though so I don't get to hug much. :sniffle: And the people I DO hug get freaked out. So I hug them a lot!

I have never been terribly fond of physical contact. Aside from family members, there are very few people whom I will allow to hug me, and I tend to be rather standoffish about touching in general.

I like hugs from girls, but I am not one to give hugs often. It's not that I wouldn't like to so much as I wouldn't think it proper of me unless I was certain that the girl wanted me to.

As for hugging my fellow guys, I really don't. I would usually feel uncomfortable with it. I generally go with tackling, punching, or otherwise roughing them up. Yep....nothing says I care like a punch in the arm :)

Pro-hug. Thats all i've got to say about that.

( this thread is weird! haha )

I don't like having hugs very much. Most of the time some one hugs me and I'm very surprised, and awkward. So, I just.. stay straight, until they stop. It's embarassing.

I don't like when classmates/people hug me, hit me in play, or stand very close, lean on me, etc. unless I am very close friends with them~ (and right now there are only 2 people that are like that, and they don't go to my school.) But classmates are very happy screamy hug people, so when they do, I stand like I said up top, but mostly I just try to continue what I am doing and walking away until they stop (so.. ignoring them?) Most people laugh at this, so it's OK, no one is offended.

I think hugs are for close people only. It's not respectful to just hug any one you feel like. ( I think I am too boring... :eh: )

I think the same way. I really don't like to be touched. My friends and I only hugged when we haven't seen each other in a really really long time and when saying good bye for a really long time. Thats because we live a long ways away from each other. Only once has some one randomly given me a hug who I didn't know. And I did not appreciate it.

Save for family, I am very reluctant to hug. There are some people who may expect it from a pastor and some who may raise an eyebrow. However, I have been at my church long enough now to know who expects (yes, they expect it) a hug from me and those who shy away from physical contact except for the professional handshake. My wife heard on the radio once that a husband should hug his wife at least 13 times a day. I am now behind about 3,472.

I <333 hugs!
Archy is right. In the South, the hand-shake rarely occurs. This could be because everyone is related to each other and it is for this same reason that I thank God my family is from the West.
It's my youth group's custom to fork out hugs like hotcakes. Our pastor usually makes an announcement at the end of every service that you have to hug anywhere from 20-40 people before you leave. <.< It sounds a bit on the cult-ish side but we're Pentecostal. That should explain it. I love hugging the newbies but I always take care not to hug new male members because they may not be used to it and they could take it the wrong way.
At school, for some reason, my girl pals and I never even touch. The only time a hug is issued is if someone is having a really bad day or just bombed something major. However, I have two guy friends that are practically a part of my family (seriously, they actually call my grandma by that name) that get hugs everyday. I especially love getting hugs from one because he kind of sneak-attacks me, picks me up, and twirls me around, usually knocking the wind out of me in process. That's love. ^^
"So David said to Michal, "It was before the LORD, who chose me instead of your father and all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel. Therefore I will play music before the LORD. And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor."

2 Samuel 6: 21&22

<<Wow, I'm shocked, I though Master was a like a big ole' teddy bear...>>
Now that is a mental image.

<<My wife heard on the radio once that a husband should hug his wife at least 13 times a day.>>
I have to go find a certain priest-boy and let him know that he is now obligated to hug me at least 13 times a day.

The people at my school are a little odd. I swear, you hear the strangest things in our hallway... XD But there's this one guy who occasionally goes around wanting hugs, and I see him hugging people all the time. He's really a nice guy, and funny. Randomly at my locker the other day (in the post-last-bell chaos) he was like, "Hey, Lauren, can I have a hug?"
On a different note, there's an eigth-grade girl who goes by my locker and says "hi" to me semi-regularly.
...
I have no idea who she is. XDD
Think happy thoughts.

Ya, cats are so huggable! Such a furry-soft warm squishy feeling! ^_^ Of course, our cat Telum kinda makes this "mmrrph!" sound if I squeeze too hard... I don't mind sharing my personal space with Telum. He's welcome pretty much 24-7. I'd say it is because he is non-threatening, except for the fact that he does indeed bite and claw...

I've not experienced church hugging to quite that extent while visiting other churches (that would *never* happen at my church - very conservative). I *have* had it were there was an announcement to greet the people around you (mostly with hugs) and I'm like freakin' out. All day I've just been thinking "I need a hug..." ._.

None of the people in my group of friends really enjoyed hugs. I did, but I'm not gonna hug people if they don't want it.

People at churchy events hugged me, especially at girls camp. All my female seminary teachers were huggy people, and I really enjoyed that. Sunday school teachers hugged me a lot, too. The girls my age hugged a lot in general, so I got included in that sometimes, even though I was usually a bit stand-offish then. It wasn't until around senior year of high school, when things started changing so much with friends and everything, that I wanted more hugs.

My family doesn't hug as much. It's usually me who initiates it. I'd hug all my younger siblings and my mom a lot. I miss them.

As I got closer to moving away from home, I noticed that my dad hugged me more than he ever used to.

When I transferred jobs, all the managers and PICs hugged me.

I'm not really geographically near to anyone close enough to hug/receive hugs from. I'm not near anyone to offer that kind of comfort.

Before, I could just go find a younger sibling and hug them (they didn't know that was comforting to me and not just showing that I care about them).

Basically, I'll gladly receive a hug from basically everyone but I only hug if it's family or a friend I haven't seen in a long time. It's not 'cause I don't want to hug more people more often... It's just that I'm afraid of hugging someone who wouldn't want it.

Never hugged/been hugged by a guy.

If I ever type "*hugs*" or anything in IMs or something, I'd be hugging whoever if they were in front of me. I don't just type it for the fun of it.

There's definitely a protocol to the "manly hug." Slapping the back is a definite must. Sometimes I through in the handshake-hug combo to keep the extra degree of formality.

constantly thinking about Huggy Bear from Starsky & Hutch?
Sorry weird association going there.

I would make exemptions though IF the huggee were:

1.A pretty girl
2.A pretty girl who looked like Kagome,Mistuki Sanada,Mitsuki Rara,Flay,etc.
3.A pretty girl who wasn't about to slap me on the face for hugging her.
