quality funny anime?

anyone seen any anime that made you laugh frequently but also had a great plot and was good quality (Trigun and Bebop fit this category).

My favorite anime that fits this description is Child's Toy. It's very different from Cowboy Bebop or Trigun, though.

I could very easily recommend the often ignored and overlooked Hamtaro series. Hilarious and cute, yet good plot. ^_^

For "quality" funny anime I'd have to say Azumanga Daioh. In trying to find an actual "plot", I guess you could say trying to survive high school right up until graduation is the whole show in a nutshell. I'm really trying here since technically there isn't suppose to be a plot to the show...

Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro is an action comedy, so its not really laugh-a-minute comedy, but it has one of the funniest sequences in Anime I've ever seen (although haven't seen as much anime as I would have liked to ). Its also a lot of fun. Its one of my favourite animes.

An anime that was hilarious, yet had a good plot...oh, I'd say Ranma 1/2. Or Those Who Hunt Elves. El-Hazard, as well (the REAL El-Hazard, not that Wanderers crap).

Azumanga Daioh really didn't have much of a plot, but with an anime like that it could be 100% plotless and still have the ability to not let the viewer down. Great entertainment right there.

And though I know you all figured I was gonna throw something Sakura Kinoshita related in, I have to say they did a stunning job with the Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok TV series. It wasn't 100% comedy, but it had its hilarious moments nontheless. I especially appreciated the MaLoki spoofs on The Ring and Iron Chef, and its rather accurate depiction of the general fangirl population. x3;

Galaxy Angel's a riot, but it lacks in the plot department.

For both hillarity and plot, let me recommend Irresponsible Captain Tylor, the sci-fi comedy epic. As grand as Robotech and as funny as Rick Hunter in a bunny suit.

The ones that come to mind are Trigun and Ai Yori Aoshi. I don't think any anime has made me laugh as hard as AYA did in that early ep when [SPOILER]Aoi tightly hugs Kaoru in her sleep and the TV announcer sounds like he's talking about them while he's really talking about wrestlers or something[/SPOILER]. Cowboy Bebop and InuYasha also have some good humor in them.

I would second Termyt's recommendation of Tylor. I also enjoyed Nadesico, which is similar in subject matter and actually takes a few things directly from Tylor.

Bleach has quite a bit of serious material, but it is also very funny at times.

Although I'm not usually a fan of romantic comedies, the Fruits Basket anime is also fairly amusing.

I think for funny anime you can't beat Full Metal Panic. Especially the 2nd series Fumoffu.

Dual!Parallel Trouble Adventure really hilarious,also Tenchi Moyu(even though I have only read the manga).Also going by just the manga I would agree with Ranma 1/2.
Inuyasha also has some really hilarious eps.

As much as I love Ranma 1/2, I have to say that it isn't great in the plot department. It has a wonderful overall story onto which a multitude of filler plots are pasted. Some of the multiple episode storylines have really good plots.

Mahoraba ~Heartful Days~ (still airing), multiple personalities can bring about some great stories. unfortunately it has the typical slice of life/romantic comedy plot (main characters meet as kids then again as teenagers/adults & fall in love).
Yakitate!! Japan (also still airing) is amazing in it's entanglement of plot (including lots of real world information) & comedy (many... many puns), and it's about bread of all things.

No, I'd have to say it doesn't. If you didn't find the humor in the first eight episodes, you probably won't find it on any of the others. Especially since I thought the second episode was a riot and the seventh - when they were at the amusement park - was hilarious.

Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi is one of the shows that I find hilarious.
Betterman also has scenes of great humor.

Huh. I never really watched Rayearth as a "comedy", though I guess you could say the chibi-ness of the first season would make it kind of funny (right up to the ending anyways). Besides that, it does have a really good plot...

I'd also have to second Love Hina. There's a good deal of fanservice, but that's where some of the best humor is (i.e. the main character is one of those guys who's got the "wrong place at the wrong time" kind of life; he means well, but crap always seems to hit the fan at the worst times for him :-) Also, Rune Soldier (aka Louie the Rune Soldier) is a great fantasy comedy anime. I was laughing so hard during the first disc that it woke my parents up since their room is above mine!!!

Betterman's humor mainly comes from Keita and Hinoki's reactions a lot of the time.It's kinda a horror/comedy series.
As far as Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi goes,it parodies everything from
video games to old World War II movies.
The thing though is there is a bit of nudity here and there.
Btw:One of the funniest moments in MSAA comes in the Prehistoric episode where
Mune Mune,Sasshi and Arumi are fleeing from the shopping arcade inhabitants on the back of a dinosaur.Every time they stop behind a rock they come out riding on the back of a smaller dinosaur until the baby dinosaur Arumi's holding looks as though it's thinking..."Who me next?"
