Horrible Eyesight

Postby Kawaiikneko » Wed Apr 13, 2005 6:46 pm

I've rediscovered how completely horrible my eyesight is. ;_; For some reason my eye estarted swelling up so I had to take my contacts out. I NEVER take my contacts out for long periods of time with both of them out at once b/c I have those kinds you can leave in for a month and my eyes never really get irritated anyways. So I took them out just now and was like "WOAH! I can't see!!" So I went to took my mom's glasses so I could at least have a bit more eyesight. But.... her prescription's not as strong as mine so its still pretty blurry =.=; *squints* They keep falling down my nose too. *hates glasses but is thinking now that I should get a spare pair in my subscription*

wow without the glasses I have to be like right up against my computer screen to read words  anyone else have horrible eyesight like this?

Hmm. Ive always wondered if all computer techs and graphic designers have bad vision.

Could there be a connection?

Is true, computers can screw up your eyes. I got teh laser surgery recently and the eye doc said that the old knowledge that people's eyesight would generally stabilize around the age of 25 has all but gone up in smoke thanks to all the time we modern folk spend with computer screens.

My eyesight went 20-20 to so-so, when I was six years old.

I'm one of few heavy computer users who don't have to wear glasses.

I do wear them sometimes however when I sit at the back during the lectures, just to make things less blurry. Otherwise, I have near perfect vision.

My eyes, according to the optometrist, "evolved" into staring into computers... I'm both short-sighted and long-sighted :P

I have a rare eye-affliction called keratoconus which when your eye forms a cone and you must thus use hard-contact lenses to push it back into a proper shape. Its more or less incurable. And its slowly driving me insane. If I didn't know better I would have believed that contact lenses were invented by the Spanish Inquisition as an instrument of torture. It certainly feels that way for me. I HATE contact lenses. Hate them, hate them, hate them. I've been wearing them for 3 years and still haven't gotten used to them. It would be good to suspect that I will never get used to them.

I've got the same condition bigsleepj and I've found out just how uncomfortable hard contacts are. Actually i think they're called gas permeable. I havent gotten used to them, but then i havent really given them much of a chance. The only good thing i can think of about them is they do make my eyesight alot better. Guess i need some motivation to put them in.

I'm short-sighted, but its not too bad. I can drive without my glasses on (though having a license would help :P ), and only really wear my glasses during uni lectures and at the cinemas.

Yes, if I don't wear them then I'll go blind so in a sense I should be thankful that I can still see, but its really hard, especially when the darn thing slips in underneath the eyelid and I have to struggle to get it out. Or if it burns your eye for no good reason. Or if it pops out when you're trying to put it in and you have to search for quite some time to get it, et cetera. In all honesty I'd have liked glasses.

At least its a good indication; keratoconus is frequently found in people who have an IQ of more or less 130. Mwahahahaaaaa! We're the smartest people in the thread!!! Mwahahaaaa! (although I suspect that I may be in the minority of dummies though  ).

Yep yep, my eyes are pretty bad. There's a big no smoking sign barely 2 feet away and I can only read it with my glasses on. Lol. Glasses can be annoying sometimes though. I'd prefer not to see than to wear them really. But when it comes to driving and such, I really don't have much of choice but to wear them. Ya get used to em after a while tho. ^^

I have to wear glasses all the time. ( Without glasses, I can see the text I'm writing now only if the distance between my eyes and the glass is something like.. five inches.. T__T ) I haven't used contacts for a couple of years. >___> I need some new ones.

i have a slight astigmatism and a little near-sightedness, so can see without my glasses, but if i want to see clearly, i have to wear them... >.< i tried getting contacts but i'm very squeamish when it comes to my eyes, and couldn't get them in, the doctor couldn't get them in, so i just decided i didn't want to mess around for an hour on each eye until i got used to it, when it just takes two seconds to put on my glasses... lol

 It's not so bad after you get used to it, soul alive, trust me. I'm terribly squeamish when it comes to my eyes (watching something crawl out of someone's eye in a manga caused me to drop the book and run screaming down the hall) but I'm good with contactcs now. =3

I have astigmatisim, and it's apparently really bad in my right eye. =/ If I were to suffer trauma to the head of some form I'd have to go directly to the emergency room so they can make sure my retina's still in one piece. From what I hear the chances of something bad happening are really slim, but it's still a scary thought. T_T;
