Cap'n Crack Does MTAC (Lots o' Pictures!!!)

Postby Cap'n Nick » Sat Apr 09, 2005 9:34 pm

Greetings fellow humans! Last weekend, my friends and I attended a convention. An ANIME CONVENTION! Hear now our tales of terror and delight!

First off, our cast of characters. David and Rani. Nice folk. Pretty easy to manage. As you can see they are already in the spirit of anime.

James a.k.a. Hyper-Miroku. Although James does own normal clothes, most of the pictures I have of him are in his monk's garb. I, however, wore normal clothes for the duration of the con and was thus appointed as his keeper. See me here in my conservative tan sweater.

James is a very enthusiastic cosplayer who unfortunately rarely breaks character. This is why my sweater and I were assigned to chaperone him. I failed miserably as he informed me that his tally at the end of the convention was 52 gropes, 23 slaps, and 1 knee to the chin.

Here is the line for the dealer's room. I have no idea who that person on the right is, and I am not particularly interested in finding out. Here's a picture from the other direction. Note the World of Warcraft troll, the multiple gangsters, and the random antler man.

It gets worse. Although not as shocking in execution as it is in concept, I think that Man-Mao is a cosplay offense rivalling the fabled Man-Faye and Sailor Bubba. Thanks to our shoddy photography skills we also have THE GHOST OF SHAMPOO!!!

Not all of the costumes were bad though. Here we have a pretty nifty Katamari person. The kimono fashion show was pretty cool. And isn't this the cutest thing you've ever seen?!

But for me, this took the cake. My parents tolerate my hobby but I would never, EVER ask them to cosplay with me. That's like, beyond devoted. Give this woman a hand and a milkshake.

Speaking of Pita Ten, I bought art books! Here I am passed out with said art books. As I was rather boring with my conservative tan sweater my friends worked very hard to get more, um, interesting photos of me.

And that was my con experience. I hope you have enjoyed my trip into the bizarre world of anime conventions.

 I dunno, at least the Man-Mao had most of his rear end covered...

And if I didn't know better, I would say that mother daughter cosplay team was my buddy Kojika and her mother (they've done everything from .hack//SIGN to InuYasha to Star Ocean EX. Her mom is a great Ashton Anchors. )

Great pics, Cap'n. I never thought that your avatar would be like a chibi version of you ^_^ I was GOING to go to this, but wound up not being able to...the Katamari Darmacy one is my favorite :D

If you think the Man-Mao cosplay is bad, you should see the Man-Sakura from Naruto.

Looks like you guys had fun. Great pics and thanks for sharing WOOT>

Where did this go on? here we just had one that is named exactly the same, MTAC, or March TAC. I think TAC is for "Toronto Animé Convention"

Thanks for the photos. It looks like you've had a great time. Wish we had anime conventions over here. All we have are political rallies.

This was the Middle Tennessee Anime Convention. So yeah, not very Toronto.

Whoa. Most heinous.

Thanks Sandy...er, Sunako! Yes, anime convention is good. But bring friends. I had fun but I don't think I would have enjoyed myself without a protective bubble of sanity in all that mad fandom. I tell you, if you want somebody to hate anime and anime fans, bring them to one of these conventions and ditch them at the cosplay show.

Think a shortened rowboat oar with the word YAOI engraved upon it that people can use to smack unsuspecting victims. It's a scary concept, though I must admit it's kinda funny to watch if you're not the said victim. I don't see any in Sir Crack's pictures, but they were everywhere at AX 2004

Oh, the stories I could tell! One year, we all went to a con, and we didn't use the buddy system, and terrible things happened! I got abducted by LARPers and had to ride an elevator with Destro! James, though, James got it worst of all. James got MAN-KISSED BY SHUICHI!!! AAAAAAAAHHHHH! *dies*

I don't know. If it involves yaoi and it didn't happen to me, I bet it's pretty funny.

This all makes the cons I've been to seem tame. I think I am not at all understanding the concept of "yaoi paddles." Not sure I want to, either. Of course, being a large white man in my thirties probably excludes me from being an unsuspecting participant in some of these activities.

<_< No one is safe, Termyt. READ: Large white male Shuichi at AX... he was actually a really nice guy, but I felt bad when I watched him get paddled (repeatedly).

at least it doesnt seem like there was the yoai make out sessions surrounded by fangirls pushing unsuspecting cosplayers towards it <shudders> i swore i would do a imitation of the 64 points of divinity on anyone who tried that on me. hope colosocon is tame compared to other cons. because ohyocon was infested with yoai fangirls.

No, I'm serious when I say that it was not funny and it was disturbing (<< in the not funny way).

Yaoi paddles? I didn't experience, and I'm happy.
