Which Biblical Figure are You Most Like?

Postby Spiritsword » Sat Mar 26, 2005 9:26 am

This is a thread I've been thinking of posting for some time, I finally decided to do it. Hopefully one like it hasn't been posted already.

Long ago Ash and I had a discussion about how people in the Bible are so cool because they're *real*, not just literally historical figures, but real because they're not portrayed as these incredible legends above mortal men and women. They suffer, cry, go through trials, and have weaknesses and weak moments alongside their wonderful characteristics of faith. They're *human*, not godlike (Except Jesus, of course), and so it is easy for us to identify with them nowadays and learn from their lives. Which leads me to my question: Which Biblical figure are you most like? And why?

I'm going to ask for people to choose a figure other than Jesus for this thread, because all Christians should strive to be like Jesus and are like Him because of the Spirit within us. So hopefully we could all say Jesus, but what other Biblical figure, male or female, are you most like? (And why?)

Feel free to post multiple Biblical figures, I myself can identify with many in many ways. I'm going to try to choose one I'm most like though.

I feel I'm most like Paul, in that I'm generally very logical and intellectual, but have to go beyond those characteristics into faith to truly grow in the Lord. Also, for awhile I was away from God, and He actively sought me out and brought me back to Him. Also, I like to teach and impart knowledge, including that of the Godly sort (though I don't do it nearly as much or as zealously as Paul, or even as much or as zealously as I should).

Other Biblical figures I identify with for one reason or another are Thomas (skepticism but a desire to believe), John (the creative, intellectual, pondering persona), and Solomon. Solomon not in all good ways either--I'm very curious and like to learn, and thus like Solomon have at times investigated things that God very likely did not want me investigating.

So there you have it! I hope everyone has fun with this thread and it gets you thinking!

I think I'm a lot like Solomon, or maybe that's who I want to be like. He had the chance to get great riches or anything else, but he chose wisdom instead and that's exactly what I would do.

And I relate a lot to Joseph--from the Old Testament.
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone
And so hold on when there is nothing left in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!' ...you'll be a Man, my son!

Interesting thread. I'm suprised you remember that conversation!

As for who I am...that's a very difficult call. I can tell you who I *want* to be: as bold and courageous as Ruth, as fearless in her faith as Esther, as useful as Timothy, as faithful and loyal as Daniel....it's really hard to pick someone I'm like. I guess the obvious choice is the only other shepherdess in the Book, Rachel, but I very much doubt I am fair of eyes (and nor do I a-light camels!) . ^^

Possibly Job. I get depressed a lot and although I've been blessed tremendously I often don't feel God's presence. But even through the hard times I try to keep my faith in Jesus strong. And it grows because of the circumstances. (Although I would have to say Job still had it worse off than me - but he was a great man of faith).

I think I'm a mix between Daniel and Job. Going through all the hard times I've have, I've alway had faith and trust in Jesus that everything will work out

Offhand, I would say Jacob. He is high-strung, ambitious, and often anxious--but still chosen by God.
Let others believe in the God who brings men to trial and judges them. I shall cling to the God who resurrects the dead.

Maybe Soloman...he's cool.

Figure wise, I can relate to any of the discples. I gave up everything to follow him...throwing away the momentary "good feeling" of a sinful life yet I stumble, doubt, and question my Saviour. I was reading Matthew in prepreation for Easter and when the disciples didn't understand what He said, Jesus would simply tone it down a bit. I can picture that with me.

Samson,David and Peter.
Basically because all three of them tended to be a bit rash at times.

Hmm...I would have to say I'm most like King David...though I still have so much to work on having on being "a man after God's own heart."

I guess I'd be kinda like Peter. Impetuous, but with my heart in the right place. (Hopefully) ^_^

The choice has been made. There's no looking back. I won't let up, back up, give up, or shut up. My focus clear. My path is straight. My God, reliable. I'm a disciple of Christ.

Gods plan is like the sun. its too big and bright to look at directly, and sometimes the rain clouds cover it, but sometimes the plan dapples through the clouds and we can see beautiful glimpses of what he has in store for us.
