I don't go to a public school but all of them near me have them.

LOL I knew it would only be a matter of time. I just read an article where they went into detail about how the kid was into writing zombie stories, wearing a trench coat, and listening to rock music. Every single time they pull this same crap. Point the finger everywhere but inward. Facts, the grandparents probably dident care about the kid...fact. The teachers in this country let crap like this go. Whos to blame? People, for not caring enough to stop this stuff from piling up on a kid.

*looks at her trench coat, her vampire short stories, and her visual kei music* Heavens, I may be next.

It's sad that things like this seem to be a somewhat regular occurance these days. It's sad that schools have to install metal detectors and have police officers on or near campus. It's sad that instead of looking at all the people who didn't try and help this kid, the media focuses on the stories he wrote and the music he listened to. What's this world coming to?

What a pathetic human being, but then again understanding the horrible society that is now being raised I kind of understand why it happened. We are being raised to "fear different people" goths, gays, African Americans, Jews, etc... we are being taught to hate them all. Take the South they are in an area where bigotry is praised if you are not a white, Republican, hetrosexual, "Christian" person you will be shunned from them. Take my Aunt, she lives in Tennessee is Jewish and has adopted 3 black children and they have been attacked by many people. My cousin has had death threats come to him every day. (Don't take this as me saying all Southerners are like that) Well anyways but by reading the article is seems that the kid is raised in sort of the same way "some" (a better word I suppose) Southerners and in the way he takes it is that it is ok to kill those who are different. I don't know why people are like this but they are. I don't know how God can forgive us because if I were him this world would of been gone a long time ago....... but that is just me.

I can't think of a public school that doesn't have cops and metal detectors in it.

Like many other posters... mine doesn't either. I think they gave up knowing there is a shooting near the school every day. I mean they often have to land helicopters at the field because of a stabbing. When you live in a gang filled area... it comes as no surprise.

That was a nice sweeping generalization. Hate is not limited to the south.

Please do I even need to say anything...? You already contradicted yourself three times over. Hate is universal and you're not helping the situation by like Shatterheart said making a generalization like that.

ok ok ok....

point is, what can people like you and me do now that this has already happened? We are called to care for those who are around us, even if we don't necessarily like them. It's true that sometimes parents, teachers, schoolmates may not play the role they're supposed to but what about ourselves? What are we doing for our parents? Our schoolmates? Our teachers? If they don't care, that doesn't mean we shouldn't. Let's just keep doing our best to love others wherever we are and pray about situations like this (Ex. peace for the familes of victims etc).

The society may pressure us to hate each other but we choose to resist.

No comment on the whole metal thingy in school. Back in my home country, no such thing exists.

^O^/ I like pink ponies, daisies, and cuddly stuffed animals, therefore, there's no way I could ever go out and shoot people. <3 <3 <3

Teachers can't take care of every student. I remember reading that Jeff Weise had been one of the more refractory students. Teachers probably wouldn't have enjoyed trying to approach him. I remember that in the schools I've gone to, the students who are more hostile toward teachers are avoided by them. Teachers are still people. They wouldn't have enjoyed approaching someone who pushed them away, even though they meant to try and help. And (<.<; improper grammer, I know.. u.u) simply because a person is being harassed, doesn't mean he/she should go out and kill innocent people. If he felt the absolute need to end his life, there was no reason to drag down others with him. There are a lot of children out there who have an incomprehensible amount of hardships to deal with, but just because they're unhappy doesn't mean they should commit a selfish, however desperate, crime.

Wow...that was the first I'd heard of that...that's really sad...
And the scary thing is that I know people like that...yes, I know not to make generalizations...I am probably the only person in my school who owns a black trench coat...but I know some angry people who are really, really hurting...only no one wants to reach out to them because they're afraid of that anger. I think that stories like this teach us that we need to reach out...yeah, that's my philosiphying for today.
(is that even a word? Philosiphying?)

I heard about this when I was skimmin gthe news online a few days ago. It is very sad.

Apparently, the kid was harrassed when he was younger cause of his weight and being anti-social. I feel sorry for him. His dad killed himself and his mother was in a nursing home cause she was a vegeatble. I'm not saying that it was bound to happen but those circumstances certaintly set up the trajedy.

I also feel sad fo the victims and thier families.

And man o man, I got some scared and wierd looks when I arrived ats chool wearing all black. If it occured to me that people would of been freake dout, I wouldn't of worn all black.

A neo-nazi on an Indian reservation? Sounds odd but, a rather scary posibility.

He actually was a Native American. From what I read, he was a self-titled "NativeNazi", not a white supremacist. But every bit as stupid and prejudiced as his skinhead counterparts.
Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.
