Mom sent this to me via email. It's really sad that this happened. I wonder if anyone else has heard of this. and if someone already posted about this please forgive me.

Teen's Rampage Leaves 10 Dead in Minn.
By JOSHUA FREED

REDBY, Minn. - The suspect in the worst U.S. school shooting since Columbine smiled and waved as he gunned down five students, a teacher and a guard, asking one of his victims whether he believed in God, witnesses said. The teen's grandfather and his grandfather's wife also were found dead, and the boy killed himself.

Reggie Graves, a student at Red Lake High School, said he was watching a movie about Shakespeare in class Monday when he heard the gunman blast his way past the metal detector at the school's entrance, killing a guard.

Then, in a nearby classroom, he heard the gunman say something to his friend Ryan. "He asked Ryan if he believed in God," Graves said. "And then he shot him."

The death toll at the Red Lake Indian Reservation in far northern Minnesota made it the nation's worst school shooting since the rampage at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo., in April 1999 that ended with the deaths of 12 students, a teacher and the two teen gunmen.

The victims included the gunman's grandfather; the grandfather's wife; a school security guard; a teacher; and five other students. At least 14 others were wounded, and two of them remained in critical condition Tuesday at MeritCare in Fargo, N.D., officials said.

"There's not a soul that will go untouched by the tragic loss that we've experienced here," Floyd Jourdain Jr., chairman of the Red Lake Chippewa Tribe, told WCCO-TV of Minneapolis on Tuesday.

Police said the gunman killed himself after exchanging fire with officers. Red Lake Fire Director Roman Stately said the gunman had two handguns and a shotgun.
"We ask Minnesotans to help comfort the families and friends of the victims who are suffering unimaginable pain by extending prayers and expressions of support," Gov. Tim Pawlenty said.

The shooter was Jeff Weise, a 17-year-old student who had been placed in the school's Homebound program for some violation of policy, said school board member Kathryn Beaulieu. Students in that program stay at home and are tutored by a traveling teacher. Beaulieu said she didn't know what Weise's violation was, and wouldn't be allowed to reveal it if she did.

There was no immediate indication of Weise's motive. But several students said he held anti-social beliefs, and he may have posted messages on a neo-Nazi Web site expressing admiration for Adolf Hitler.

A writer who identified himself as Jeff Weise of the Red Lake Reservation posted the messages under the nickname "Todesengel" _ German for "angel of death." An April 2004 posting by him referred to being accused of "a threat on the school I attend," though the writer later said he was cleared.

Relatives told the St. Paul Pioneer Press that Weise was a loner who usually wore black and was teased by other kids. Relatives told the newspaper his father committed suicide four years ago, and that his mother was living in a Minneapolis nursing home because she suffered brain injuries in a car accident.

The governor said it appeared the school had "very rigorous security."

"It looks like you had a very disturbed individual who was able to overcome a lot of precautions to do a lot of damage," Pawlenty said.

Beaulieu said school was canceled Tuesday, but plans hadn't been made for the rest of the week.

During the rampage, teachers herded students from one room to another, trying to move away from the sound of the shooting, said Graves, 14. He said some students crouched under desks.

Some pleaded with the gunman to stop. "You could hear a girl saying, 'No, Jeff, quit, quit. Leave me alone. What are you doing?'" Sondra Hegstrom told The Pioneer of Bemidji.

Student Ashley Morrison said she heard shots, then saw the gunman's face peering though a door window of a classroom where she was hiding with several other students. After banging at the door, the shooter walked away and she heard more shots, she said.

"I can't even count how many gunshots you heard, there was over 20. ... There were people screaming, and they made us get behind the desk," she said.

FBI spokesman Paul McCabe said the gunman exchanged gunfire with Red Lake police in a hallway, then retreated to a classroom, where he was believed to have shot himself.

All of the dead students were found in one room, including the teen believed to be the shooter.

Authorities closed roads to the reservation in far northern Minnesota while they investigated the shootings. The reservation, about 240 miles north of the Twin Cities, is home to the Red Lake Chippewa Tribe, one of the poorest in the state. According to the 2000 census, 5,162 people lived on the reservation, and all but 91 were Indians.

It was the second fatal school shooting in Minnesota in 18 months. Two students were killed at Rocori High School in Cold Spring in September 2003. Student John Jason McLaughlin, who was 15 at the time, awaits trial in the case.

Red Lake High School has about 300 students, according to its Web site.

A neo-nazi on an Indian reservation? Sounds odd but, a rather scary posibility.

This is terrible...just terrible...I am so sick and tired of how this is happening, and do you know the reason these kinds of things happen...either parents who don't raise their kids right or they that they just don't care...and nothing is done to stop the bullying at school.

It's just too much, it's just...ARGH! It annoys me to no end the reason that most people today don't do anything to solve these simple, dang problems and then something like this will never happen!

Sorry for the rant but...man, I feel like screaming my head off!

That's the same thing with me Bakura_fan. I was bullied all the way to grade 6.

Of course, I've forgiven them and guess what, the same students who bullied me back in the years became nice people.

I watched a movie about the Rwanda genocide and then, read this bit of news.

I admit that I became so miserable, I cried. How can someone have so much hate to the point that they kill? It's hard for me to comprehend it all eventhough it can be answered by one word: sin.

I heard about that at school. It's just a reminder to love everyone cause you never know when they might be gone or when they just need one person to understand them and keep them from doing something like that. I'll definitely be praying for the family. :(

This is just so sad: From the little boy who felt he had nowhere else to turn, I mean his father killed himself four years prior, his mom was in a coma, and doubtful his grandparents showed him love, and to the kids who bullied him, and then these innocent people who had to feel the full hate and anger which spewed out of his hurt until he ended it all. *long sigh*

I mean, so many young teens today, during this change in their lives - from childhood to adulthood - could easily break in a moment of passionate anger and hate, and only by the restraint of a loving parent's words, or a teacher, or a peer, could this be swayed. Ultimately, only by His grace does one survive the teen years.

I just think the whole thing is one giant... sadness. :(

Love and a kind word, it's so simple, yet no one is willing to love unconditionally. Very sad.

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

After reading about the boy's life, you can tell that something like this would happen with him anyway. His family sounds a bit mess up other then his mother, who was living in a Minneapolis nursing home because she suffered brain injuries in a car accident. When people have your life turn up so down, so fast. Most will do the most selfish thing and back way or close them self from God. He went down the path that lead to darkness and pain and then seing anything good come out of his life and go to the light and love path.

It was saddening...the boy I guess I can understand to some degree because of his isolation and unacceptance from his peers, and yes, that can be a pretty devasting emotional state of distress for any teenager.

From what I understand, he regulary visited a web site that supported Neo Nazism, I believe it was Nazi.org.

Also, what if extra measures are taken to ensure the safety of children in school, like metal detectors, tracking devices or even guards at certain areas of the building. Would that completely diminish the quality of public education or worsen it ? Hm..I also wonder if violent video games played a factor in shaping his behavior.

Oh my goodness! This is the first I've heard of this... it's horrible! I think I'm pretty much in line with Mave... I can't understand how you could have a hate so great... hurt so bad... to kill.

The other day on our local news (I live near Colmbus, OH) that a man driving a truck was ramming his vechile into other cars on the road. When the police came for him, he ran his truck off the road and came after the officer with an axe. They gunned him down only to find slashes on his arms. They think what he did was meant as suicide.

I don't understand why people hurt themselves or others, but I do know that God tells us we need to love each other. Maybe, just maybe, if we all make it a point to do five good things for someone today... we can really make a differance. You never know. I know that sounds cheesy, but its true.

The students at that school will definitly be in my prayers.

This ticks me off. For one there are people with worse lives who grow up just fine without murdering 10 people and injuring others. Its not just hert people who were shot its evry person in the community will carry this in their souls and yes kids who suffer is sad but when you kill others that turns the boat over i would feel sorry for him if yes he had just commited succide because he had a hard life but he killed people and that is unforgivableif he was not protecting someone than he desertvbe to die for taking someone elses chance at happiness their entire life away from them. He couldnt just shoot himself he had to take 10 othrs with him that was pure selfishness thats ten people who may not of found christ yet 10 people going to hell because he killed them before they had a chance to find the word. Im not saying that they all arte but there is no way to know who were christians but *I do know they all werent. If he had not died from this attack he broght on these people I would go and beat him in the face myself. Their is other ways to handle bulling I shouold know I got angry at people I got in a lot of fights but there is one thing i did know I never had an inkling desire to kill any of them. Only people who kill deserve to die.

That is really sad, God loves people so much and to have one kill another is so sad.
If one doesn’t believe or have faith in God, they are capable of anything , with no right or wrong the world will descend into chaos, and has.
One more thing , God can forgive any sin.

They did have metal detectors, cameras, and a security guard. I can't think of a public school that doesn't have cops and metal detectors in it. Anyway the first person killed by him was the guard. But it's a small school of around 300 kids. A school that size doesn't need an army of security guards. And even if they did it wasn't going to stop him.

You can place metal detectors and guards all over the place in a school, but it's only going to turn a school into a penetentary. If a kid or anyone for that matter is going to bring a gun and has the resolve to do it they're going to do some damage. In this kid's case he had two handguns, body armor, and a shotgun. Somebody was going to get killed.

Probably the fact that his father commited suicide four years ago, his mother was in nursing home, he lived in a poor area, he was a social outcast, and was interested in death and violent ideals. That's a pretty big combo but none of us can dig inside his mind.

And Mi-Ru-Me he did commit suicide. You have no idea if those people were Christian or not, nor whether they're going to heaven or hell. Only God can judge someone's soul. No sin is too big for God to forgive. Pray for the victims and their families.

Their is other ways to handle bulling I shouold know I got angry at people I got in a lot of fights but there is one thing i did know I never had an inkling desire to kill any of them. Only people who kill deserve to die.

Sorry for this letter but things like this takes the worst out of me.

I have to agree with Yojimbo, Mi-Ru-Me, that we don't know if they were Christian or not. The killer specifically asked if they believed in God and would shoot them after.

Remember back in Columbine that the blonde-haired girl was killed because she believed in God, this means that even though people are Christians they can still die, because it was their time. I know this is hard to grasp, but that's the way it is. As long as people are true to their faith and willing to die for God, they will be fine and will have a life in Heaven for eternity.

As I said before, we don't know if the people were Christian or not, the main thing is we pray for God to have mercy on their souls and that the families will get through this with as much comfort as possible.

We have been here long enough to know
That we are all brothers and sisters in Christ,
So if you are in need of help,
We shall give you His advice.

May God add his blessings upon you,
That you will live this day and forever,
And when He comes to the earth again,
We will all go together...

Into Heaven for Eternity...
