Anime for Amatuers

Postby Riot_GM » Tue Mar 15, 2005 5:07 pm

I seriously am not a pro with all the anime stuff...but I do know one thing..the old stuff rocks...well the stuff that i've seen anyways. I watched Sailor Moon and The Last Unicorn. Anime is pretty cool and it's nice to get a taste of a different art form every once in awhile..someday i'm gonna see cowboy bebop and/or flcl....and maybe then my knowledge will be more keen on anime....welp, if you have any suggestions on good anime shows or other stuff...let me know

later,
mak

suggestions? yeah, trigun is always a good start. full metal panic is pretty sweet, too, and both are usually avalible at libraries to rent, and easy to find at retailers if you feel like dropping $20 a dvd

I will always tell people to watch Giant Robo. It's not a robot/action anime, but mainly a great, epic drama. I love it, everyone here knows it. There's a review in the reviews section. Check it out, watch it all of the way through. (7 episodes, ranging from 40 to 60 minutes each.)

First no one is a Pro in the world of anime even those of us who grows up in the anime culture. There is much to watch and sees and second this should belong to anime section of the forum.

Well I think the producers and distributers are probably pros. I'm forking over $25 a disc, so I can't imagine that they aren't getting paid.

My personal favorite is Now and Then, Here and There, but be forwarned that it is heavy. Check out the reviews section. Another show by the same director, and much more on the lighter side is Jubei-chan, which is very enjoyable.

Hey! You mean someone else besides me likes Miami Guns? After the abuse I took at ANN, I thought I was the only one...

Sailor Moon is great (unedited of course), Urusei Yatsura, Azumanga Daioh, Nadia, Excel Saga for older viewers...

Before I list any anime.

I like to ask you something frist.

What kind of shows do you like. What is your limit as what you will not watch, like blood or stuff like that.

Macross
Nausicaä of the Valeey of the Wind

My personal top ten favorites and ones I think everyone ought to see:
10.Betterman
9.Boogiepop Phantom
8.Case Closed (aka Detective Conan)
7.Cowboy Bebop
6.Serial Experiments:Lain
5.Banner of the Stars
4.Crest of the Stars
3.DUAL!PARALLEL TROUBLE ADVENTURE(and if it weren't for the following
this would definitely be #1 on my list but since:)
2.Inuyasha
1.Silent Mobius :thumb:

Of those I have yet to see I think Sailor Moon,Tenchi Moyu and Ranma 1/2
would be among the must watch list.

Dual is a good one to introduce you into anime more...It's not all that great but it's really fun to watch. But I agree with WingZero22...You should tell us what type of stuff you like and your tolerance level. I'm like CDL with Now and Then, Here and There being my favorite series but it's definatly not for everyone.

If you want to expand your knowledge a bit (or more) on anime in general, as well as get some pretty good anime reviews, you can always visit http://www.animeacademy.com (I use that a site a lot, anyhow) they have a lot of good information on otaku "vocabulary," famous anime directors, composers, manga-ka, and respectable reviews..

Well, someone's already suggested Trigun, so I have nothing to contribute. I suppose there's Cowboy Bebop as well.
Think happy thoughts.

I'm glad SOMEONE out there appreciates the greatest anime ever, Giant Robo. It's the reason that animation was invented.

If you can find it, Japanese Pokemon is great. The dub can be burned along with 4Kids Entertainment. But if you can download it online, like with mIRC, it's great.
Ai Yori Aoshi is a fantastic romance/drama/comedy/slice of life series. It's hard for me to see any anime beating it in the romance department, and I'm a sucker for romance. ^^ There is a little fanservice, but otherwise it's clean.
InuYasha is also well worth the hype. It has a little bit of mostly everything. Comedy, romance, supernatural, and alot of action and drama.
Also, you mst see every Studio Ghibli film, especially Grave of the Fireflies. Prepare for one of the saddest movies ever, but it's a great movie everyone should see.
"For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; and the government will rest on His shoulders; and His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace." - Isaiah 9:6
