I watched part of it...I took everything they said with a grain of salt.

Though I believe dragons DID exist, I find it doubtful that we'd find any hard evidence of them. ^^

It's a faux documentary- discussing dragons as if they were real. It's a "what if" kind of show and not a real documentary.

http://animal.discovery.com/convergence/dragons/dragons.html

As far as dragon legends, there are a number of very interesting theories. The most obvious being that they started out from ancient observations of dinosaur bones. This is an idea with at least some credence since we do know that classical interpretations of ancient fossils often incorporated earlier myths. (e.g. see "The First Fossil Hunters: Paleontology in Greek and Roman Times" by Peter Dodson)

Another very interesting explanation looks into some of the most primitive parts of our psyche. Namely, it notes that the elements of the dragon incorporate fire, claws, and wings (fire, snake and eagle), which would have been the greatest terrors of our most remote mammalian (or primate) ancestors.
The scientific method," Thomas Henry Huxley once wrote, "is nothing but the normal working of the human mind." That is to say, when the mind is working; that is to say further, when it is engaged in corrrecting its mistakes. Taking this point of view, we may conclude that science is not physics, biology, or chemistry—is not even a "subject"—but a moral imperative drawn from a larger narrative whose purpose is to give perspective, balance, and humility to learning.

sea dragon was called a "leviathan" (see also Psalm 74: 14; 104: 26). It was described by God Himself in Job 41:1-34 as a fearsome, fire-breathing (v.21) monster whose scaly hide (vs.15-17) could not be pierced with sword or spear (vs.7,26-29). God also described a huge land dragon called a "behemoth" (Job 40:15-24) that "moveth his tail like a cedar" and is "the chief of the ways of God," impossible to capture (vs.17,19,24). Various other dragons are depicted as dwelling in different types of habitats and as being of various sizes (e.g., Isaiah 34:13; Micah 1:8; Malachi 1:3). In some of these cases, modern translations have rendered "tanniyn" as "jackal," but the Hebrew word means "dragon," or "monster," not jackal.

Well, it's debatable how much of the biblical descriptions can be related to actual animals, or in what way. It is likely that there was more than a little poetic licence being used, or that wholly mythological creatures were being talked about.

I think that maybe the dinosaurs did not die out as early as the most think.
And Technomancer It is likely that there was poetic licence being used.
I did not think my last post was proof of dragons. I just thought it would be cool to see what the bible says about dragons.

I believe these refer to dinosaurs. The "fire-breathing" could mean they had very hot breath. If dragons did exist, why haven't skeletons or any other evidence been discovered before?

Sorry to be off topic, but I have to say this. I hate those kind of shows that do the what if factor.

As for dragons being real or not. I think maybe some of the storys of dragons were pass down from what may have been dinosaurs.

To reason out the answer in one’s own mind, one must ask the question:

What is the basis for the dragon myths we know today?

The passage in Job Behemoth and Leviathan are used as examples by God as an example of why He is superior to man. One can conclude from the passage that He was not making up some kind of allegory of a fictional beast, but using something Job would be able to know and understand from personal experience. If not, the example God uses would have had little affect as Job may be inclined to think, “Why would I put the ring in the nose of some animal that seems really big and scary? I guess it’d be really good a plowing fields, but how much does it eat and how would I build a shed big enough and strong enough to house it? What’s He talking about?â€

Most lickly the last of dinasoures large lizards and bones caused many supersticious people to believe that they were dragons and the way stories go when being told everyone adds their own twist to the original. Most lickly all dragons are based off of some real animal yet all their atributes were added over time for all we know they also made them bigger.

Dragons were also a word used to associate with evil and alot of stories are just lessons made to be easly rembered and enjoyed by younger people

The problem with that line of reasoning is that it applies to other large, potenitally ferocious animals that exist at the top of the food chain (e.g. Tyrannosaurus Rex, extinct cave bears, etc). These creatures are represented in the fossil record, and would likely have been attacked by any other creature. As a result, I think we can safely conclude that dragons (as we know them) never existed anywhere other than in human dreams and nightmares.

i have heard reports that there are hallow extensions of the back of some dinosaurs. scientists are now starting to think that these areas may have contained different chemicals that when combined with oxygen and eachother would explode/catch on fire, much like the present day bombadier beetle does. before i read this article and several others like it all i saw on this subject was guesses on that these tubes and chambers where used for making calls and such, seems some paleontologists are changing there minds. even in the bible it says about leviathen that he spit fire or something similar to that. leviathen greatly resembles some aquatic dinasaurs like the pleaseasaur (sp?) wich if my memory serves me correctly does have nubs on the back of its head.

I personaloy I like dragons, I am a HUGE Fan of them, I try and see every dragon movie made, I have seen Dragonheart, Dragonheart 2, and that other one I dont remember what it's called but it's about this big male dragon who can wipe people out with one blow of fire, anyway, Yes God does describe Leviathan, I believe it was real once..but like the bible said it can't be killed by swords or spears, but it never said Bullet's, now I read a magazine artical that was written from War World 2, this huge battle ship was sailing through a storm and something lifted it out of the water..now one of the people on board saw the scale's and the snake like body, weather this is real or not I do not know..but for the most part I believe it, Also Dragons are described as Dinosaurs, Now not all Dino's are dead..the plaziasaur is still around, and also in one of the jungles a man and some people were walking through and he saw a claw of what he thought to be a rapter, also weather this is true or not I dont know....But I think that if Dragons did Exist they didn't look the way we picture them, they were probly something much different than what we see them as, Now I really want to see this Dragons movie...but on the trailer they showed you the picture of the body they found...the thing looked like a T-Rex, and also it never showed you it's wings, I think it was a Dino..But yeah know..it could all be made up..people do it everyday, But Dragons are Awesome and I think they are Cool, I hope I get to see DRAGONS..I am going to order the DVD....

I think there is a great possiblility that a dragon-like creature existed. I'm sure God designed them to breed little and through the dark ages, and through that ages lack of record-keeping, only drawings were kept in history and in the early age of civilization to verify. These creatures, just as the Auroch (a strange buffalo-looking creature which is almost the size of an elephant) lived and went the way of extinction.

I believe many things are possible, since much of the earth grew from the Mesopotamia area and the Euphrates/Tigris River Valley. So, it is quite possible many creatures went the way of extinction, massive hunting - have you ever noticed the Germanic tribes? Those guys were brutal and so were the Huns. There is no reason not to believe that they may have overkilled a species which breeds little.

I also have my theory on unicorns. I think there were mutated horses - because our dog has a large bone in between her eyes, which looks like the beginning of a horn - and I think that some of these mutated horse-like creatures were misperceived as unicorns. You know, stories got around and soon everyone thought these small-of-intellect people had spread a rumor.

Eh, it's just my own fantastical mind at work - but, who knows? XD

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

Legends are usually based somewhat on truth, yes?

Anything's possible. I see photos of creatures in National Geographic sometimes, and I say, "That thing exists??" :wow!:
