The Dangers of Methenphetimine!!!

Postby Kewl Girl » Tue Mar 15, 2005 10:23 am

:thumb: Hello everyone!!!

Okay I dont think I saw another thread about this so I decided to start my own... :thumb:

I wet to a program on Methephetimie (I hope that is spelled right) the other day and I thought it would be awesome to discuss it here.

I AM NOT SAYING THAT I USE THIS DRUG OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT!!!
But I am interested in it because I know a few people who are. I know a little about it from them and this program, but I would like to know more. I mainly want to know if anyone out here knows how to tell when people are using it. I know how to tell if they are using it over a long period of time, but how do you tell when they first start out.

For those who dont know what Meth is... here is what I know so far:

-It is becoming one of the most popular of the illegial drugs in America.
-If you try it once youre addicted.
-Its like drinking poison so it kills you over a period of time.
-It makes it so you have energy and dont have to sleep to up to a week.
-After that you experience a 'crash' and you sleep for days.
-It becomes the most importatn thing in your life when youre addicted.
-After a while (although not always) you begin hearing voices and experience paranoia, and you start seeing things.
-It is made out of house hold items so anyone can make it in their own home.
-Murder, Rape, Burgalries,Suicide, and Cancer rates have increased dramatically because of this drug.
-If you are addicted it is EXTREMLY hard to quit. And most cant no matter how hard they try.
-The average life span for someone hooked on Meth is about 5-7 years from when they first start. (thought this is not true for everyone because I know someone who has been doing it for 20 years and never even heard voices)

I sure I havent mentioned everything but Ill come back and edit this as I think of thing and such.

The man who spoke at this program was a die-hard Christian so let me tell you my ant-Christian town was quite surprised when he talked about how God changed his life!!!! And this was an event at a public school that all studnets were forced to watch!!  I thought it was quite hilarious!!

Anyways, I think thats about all the info. I now about this so if anyone knows anymore than that about the drug please discuss. Also everyons should alert their friends to the potential danger of this drug, because thought it may not look like it it is EXTREMLY DANGEROUS!!!

I think thats it....Now everyone...

DISCUSS AWAY!! ;)

Methamphetamine.

No drug is a guaranteed try-it-once-hooked-for-life deal, but most drugs of abuse are pretty close, and playing with fire by "I'll just try it once" is a great way to get burned.

Most of the rest, however, is correct. Speed (ice, crystal, etc) gives you a serious high that lasts for days. Tweakers don't need sleep, eat erratically, do strange things. Many become paranoid or see hallucinations, or behave in illogical fashion (two speed addicts down the street from a friend of mine took apart their new Toyota pickup truck to install a stereo ... with a chainsaw ... at 4am). Once you crash from the massive depletion of neurotransmitter, it'll be several days before you rebound.

Meth does not shorten your lifespan that precipitously, but it has profound effects all by itself as well as the effects of the method of administration. Shooting up speed puts you at all the risk associated with dirty needles, and overuse of the drug itself can lead to psychosis, seizures, and blood pressure high enough to cause strokes in the brain.

It's not something to play with.

Me thinks these symptoms would be a result of not sleeping. Whether the body is tired or not, the mind requires rest.

I saw something on ABC's nighttime news program (Nightline? Frontline? Newsline? something like that) about this young guy and his girlfriend. apparently they took crystal meth at a New Year's party and three days later they were out wandering around in the Nebraska countryside...at night...in a snowstorm. they were trying to call 911 for help, but they were both so delusional that they didn't know where they were...they thought they were at their APARTMENT. which was like several miles away. unfortunately Nebraska's 911 system doesn't have the GPS tracking thing for cellphones, so they had to go out and hunt for them.

they ended up leaving their truck behind and went out in the cold. the guy kept saying there were people nearby, but if he called out to them they wouldn't say anything back. "I don't think they speak English."

eventually the rescue teams did find them...dead. they both froze to death. nearby there were some cows...the police think that those were the "people" he was seeing.

so...meth is definitely not something to be fooled around with.

Dr. Shoo, is it certain that meth (for short) is found in Sudafed?

you can make meth out of those medicines like Sudafed...that's why they limit the sale of them now. (actually in Oklahoma, you have to buy that stuff from the pharmacies now, I think.)

Sudafed used to be locked up behind the pharmacy counters. I don't know if they still do that down here in southern California.

I have something to share that my aunt told me. It's not a pleasant story, but it does tell you how dangerous this stuff is. My aunt's an ER nurse. One time she saw a female patient brought in and thought to herself the woman was pregnant. She notified another person on staff of what she thought. Turns out the woman wasn't just pregnant, she was overdue!! And had no idea about her condition!! :mutter: My aunt also found out this woman was on meth. Yeah, I know it's both sad and disgusting, but I hope that makes the message clear. Don't mess with drugs.

No, methamphetamine is not in Sudafed, but it can be easily made from it (pseudoephedrine).

Dextroamphetamine is in Adderall, which are both ADD/ADHD medications. For some reason the stimulant effect calms them down, but even though dextroamphetamine is milder than methamphetamine, it's still an amphetamine, still a controlled substance, and still has similar effects and side effects on the body. (Strattera, a non-stimulant drug for ADD/ADHD, has not had the effect it was expected to, and seems to be inferior in some tests.)

Yeah Ive heard all kinds of violent storys about people on Meth. They can be pretty disturbing.
The two foster children I have at my house are here cause the partents were arested for meth. (thats why Im so interested) Also they were both born with Meth in their systems. So they have to see all kinds of doctors and children pshychologists because the state wants to find out how it is affecting them. They really dont know all to well what the effects of meth are on children born with it in their systems, because it is a fairly new drug and all. So these little guys are being tested and all 24/7.
So far Ive noticed that both are extremly aggresive and dont seem to be able to tell right from wrong, and show almost no remores when they hurt others. But that could just be because of other events and such in their lives. Im not saying all kids born on meth are that way... just the ones I have.

Control of your life belongs to God alone. Never give control to anything else. That is the core of the prohibitions in the Bible. That's exactly what you do when you do drugs, get drunk, or have sex in exchange foe acceptance or "love."

I think this is the lesson to be learned from all of this. I pray you and your family can help your foster kids learn this above all and I am thankful that you have been placed in that position. We'll be here for you.

Also Meth is made out of chemicals that are EXTREMLY dangerous. If you mix it in the wrong order or accidently get the litium strips (I think thats what theyre called) wet... then its Game Over. This stuff explodes! And explodes big time! The worst part is that tons of kids get hurt in these accidents too. Plus I suppose if you lived in an appartment that could be quite dangerous to...

Volt wrote: Babies are also victims of undeserving mothers, labs sometimes in the same room as the baby... Sadness. I wish they'd think about the kids, but... I'm sure they'd sell their kid to get high anyday.

Thats a little harsh on the parents. Not all are like that (most but not all). A lot of the time when they are on Meth they cant think straight. They think they are being good parents. Some of the parents I have meet try really hard to stay off of Meth for their kids, but yes most of them do put their addictions first. You may call it selfish, but unless you have gone through the same addiction I dont think its fair for us to judge them... 'All have sinned' Right?

I agree, but I cant say that I wouldnt do Meth if I werent a Christian. Meth makes you feel good, gives you energy, fell like you can do anything. I mean that sounds pretty good. God makes you fell loved and accepted, but whithout Him... Life feels meaningless and empty. Because Im a Christian I never would even consider doing Meth, but you have too look at it from the other perspective. What if you didnt have God ?? I mean it would be really tough.

termyt wrote:I think this is the lesson to be learned from all of this. I pray you and your family can help your foster kids learn this above all and I am thankful that you have been placed in that position.

Yeah. :thumb: I know that God really wanted us to take these kids. The timing and everything was perfect! And we have learned many lessons. Especially my parents!! When I tolde my Mom that my friends did drugs she would laugh at me and say that we didnt have drugs in our town. Now she know better. Also the parents say that they have come to believe in God through this. The Mom said that she kept praying that the kids would go to a good home. And she said that God answered her prayers! She says that she wants to find a church ro go to and she says she likes the one we go to so she may start coming to that!! It all so Awesome!!

termyt wrote: We'll be here for you.

Thanks for the support! ;) You guys really are the best! But please dont worry Im alright.:thumb: Im sorry if I sounded like I was stressed or something. I just like to talk about problems others have. I think my mom said its called co-depndent or something like that she says it means I like to talk about other peoples probelms and take them on as my own... Perhaps thats a bad thing ... but I cant help it its just the way I am I guess.

The meth trade is booming here in Kansas. They are pushing to get all the over the counter cold medicines locked behind the counter, some are even trying to make it so you have to get a perscription for any cold medice with it. The labs are extremely dangerous, even if they don't blow up, and have to be cleaned up by haz-mat teams. There is something in the news at least once a week about another lab or people busted trying to buy the cold medicine or new laws that are being worked on. It's the twenty-first century version of crack, cheap and easy to make, big high, big profits, and big damage to everyone who touches it.

The other night, the news mentioned that one school out here has ordered that kids can't bring homebaked goodies to school, because of the possiblility that the stove has been used to cook meth, which can contaminate the food and get others sick.

I know someone who got attacked by someone on P. He was just walking along when this car stopped, and a guy ran out and just started attacking him. Luckily he's taken self defence lessons, so he was able to block the guy's punches. Then someone came out and dragged the attacker back into the car.

Here's some info on a pamphlete I found:

'Though the pleasurable rush disappears quickly, other effects may last between 8 to 24 hours or longer and include:
increased alertness, sense of well-being, paranoia i.e people following them, phones are tapped etc. Hallucinations, aggressive/violent behaviour, mood swings, increased heart rate, insomnia, dry, itchy skin, uncontrollable movements (twitching, jerking, grinding of teeth) loss of appetite, extreme rise in body temperature, numbness, acne and skin sores.

I wish I had something adequate to say about how terrible P is.
I don't know how bad it is here compared with other areas, but I know that P is also a problem in Auckland.
