Insomnia (?)

What causes it and what exactly is it? I know it makes a person unable to sleep and that it's indeed a curse because sleep is a gift from God but it's always been interesting to me.

It's when a person is unable to sleep. And it's caused by addiction to the computer and/or the Gamecube :eyeroll: Just kidding. But seriously, I'm not particularly sure what causes it. Maybe it has something to do with chemical imbalance of the brain :stressed:

It's a disorder nobody with insomnia is "cursed."

It's not that they can't sleep it's just people with insomnia have alot of trouble sleeping, wake up alot during the night, feel drousy after a full night's rest. I know that primary insomnia is when a person is having sleep problems, but they're not directly associated with any other health problems. And secondary is when a person is having sleep problems because of another condition like asthma or alot of stress. Chronic is when people have trouble sleeping almost every night of the week for a couple months at a time.

I read somewhere that it's only considered insomnia if you want to sleep and are unable to do so or do so well for a variety of reasons. If you can't sleep and don't want to sleep, it does not qualify as insomnia.

 That's making me rethink my self-proclaimed insomnia now. z( ^-^)/ Sleep is for the WEAK! >D

I doubt that most cases of actual insomnia are curses from God - I do recall a couple mentionings of it in the Bible, and Shakespeare uses sleeplessness in Macbeth as a sort of omen of evil. But some people just can't sleep, and I don't think it's their fault or anyone elses.

"With insomnia, nothing is real. Everything is far away. Everything is a copy of a copy of a copy." - Fight Club

I always liked that quote.

As far as I know, real insomnia is a medical disorder and one should see a doctor for it.

Then there's the kind of insomnia I'm having right now. This kind is caused by watching a marathon of Robotech episodes.

Come to think of it, though, I suppose I ought to get some sleep because I work tomorrow.

 Sorry, I thought this was funny.

There are nights when I can't sleep when I want to and it's not the coffee. It's stress.
