So then should I be able to file a lawsuit against the phone companies? After all, all I have to know is your name and I can get your phone number AND address.

Then I should be able to sue Mapquest because once I know your address I can get directions to your house from anywhere in the United States.

See how ridiculous that sounds? No worse than online phone books, like Shiroi said.

the #1 way to get your identity stolen is still by throwing away your bank statements, credit card statements, reciepts, etc. Shred that stuff up first.

kinda ot, but not even shredding works (so says the expert testimony of Kevin Mitnik who I met over the summer.). He says it just kinda adds to the fun; people get together and put it together in about an hour or so. also never give your computer away when discarding it because deleted stuff isn't ever really deleted (unless you take special precautions). Thus, burn all your garbage

It's horrible the way they do this. I doubt the people who thought up the idea even have their own numbers up, for security's sake.

Well they're probably dead for one. I'm sure the Assyrian and Babylonian record keeper sage guys molecules are even dead by now. Record keeping of people's info is nothing new. And I'm sure the guy who made the first phone book is long dead too.

Like everyone else said the internet just makes it easier. I don't know why some of you are all up in arms about it. If I wanted to I could get a phonebook and a trusty old map and baam there ya are.

aha...so I tried it for someone else and it works like a charm. Not sure why ours doesn't show up. But yay for that.

Truth of the matter though, just b/c google is more convenient doesn't make it that much more terrible. There's reverse lookup sites elsewhere. This is merely alot easier. The internet is just evil.

This is why phone numbers should be given out sparingly. *reminds self* lol

Thanks for the heads up.

I showed my dad and he thought I put it up and got mad at me. But I explained to him that it was Google who did. So he had me remove it. Heck, we removed our phone number from the phone book for privacy reasons.

I think it i pretty stupid and wrong personally.

Just thinking though....I tried entering in something oher then my area phone number and it didn't work. If yo uknew that area code and such, it'd be easy. So in a way, it's harmless unless you know the phone number.
