Well, now I've soon finished .hack//SIGN, and I've started on the GetBackers DVD's. But I want some new series soon.
Can anyone recommend me some new series to watch (that is out on R1 or preferably R2/EU DVD)?
I like series that may be a little difficult to acctually understand completely, like .hack//SIGN (well, I at least thought it was some confusing in the beginning), and other than that mostly anything goes (just no hentai :p)

>.<; ...must....be good....must...okay, reccomendation: Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarok/Detective Loki. *gets chased by the obsession police* Series based on Norse mythology. Cute and humorous and serious and insightful at the same time. It's due for release sometime in the near future, and I believe the Anime Channel will be airing it as well.

If you like .hack//SIGN, I'd definitely say check out .hack//Legend of the Twilight. It's not as deep and series as SIGN - instead it's cute, and most of the characters are chibified. It's a very enjoyable, lighthearted series.

08th MS Team is also an excellent series. It's, in my opinion, the best Gundam out there. There's some nudity I think (I'm not sure, because I saw it on Cartoon Network) and blood, as well as your average level of Gundam series language.

I think I already have .hack//Legend of Twilight (DUSK?) on my HD. The R2 DVD's ain't out yet, so I'm waiting with buying until they come here. Sure wanna get the first experience of the series in DVD quality :p

But I've heard Evangelion is a good series, but discussing about it isn't allowed on the board or something. Can someone explain that to me? Is it good, and what is wrong with it? :S

I don't recommend Evangelion at all. Since we can't talk about it, I'll PM you.

Hmm...I recommend you check out Now and Then, Here And There if you like drama. But yeah everybody is very highly oppinionated on Eva so that's why they don't let people talk about it, it almmost always goes down in flames...Though I'd reccomend hearing from both sides on it then judging it from a middle ground. Now back to the recommendations...If you like sci-fi comedy check out Nadesico...It's probably the best out there. Also you might want to check out Escaflowne.

i don't like the content in escaflowne, as I recall, alot of Tarot cards and sorcery, it sounded like a pervertion to me. but that that is just my opinion to stay away from it.

well, I LOVE LOVE LOVE AND AM CRAZED OVER InuYasha, but it has some bad content in it such as soul-stealing, a bit of language, and a couple villains like Urusae, Naraku, and Kagura use sorcery, but the good thing is that only the villains use it, which displays it as evil. It is a watchable anime IMO, under the condition you are mindful that some of the content is not good at times, you just have to know not to warm up to the bad, but it is not SO overboard that it is unacceptable. I am relatively strict in my content, but I love this one none the less, just listen for God's ultimate ruling for you if you do watch it. ;)

I also think Ai Yori Aoshi and Ai Yori Aoshi Enishi (Enishi being after the original series) are great, very moving romance, with a great touch of humor and fun in them. BE WARNED THOUGH, IF YOU HAVE A LOW THRESH-HOLD FOR FAN SERVICE, YOU MAY NOT LIKE THIS. It isn't overboard IMO with fan service, but it is pretty, uh, you know, at times.

Trigun is a must, it promotes Christianity and has an awesome mix of humor, action, suspence, the whole sushi roll :P. I really love this own, the only things I didn't enjoy is
in eps, uh, 19 and 20 I believe it was, a guy called Leonauf the Puppet Master attacks Vash and co with 'demon puppets', I just didn't enjoy the spiritual feeling I got for that part, but the eps are watchable definately. ;)
EP 23 WAS GRRRRRRRRREAT!!! :D

Chobits: extremely fan service-ee at times, but a very good romance with some good humor and creativity in it. I didn't get really hooked till about eps 15 or so and on. ;)

Samurai X: it is very moving, but VERY VERY VERY bloody, it has great music though, and the fight scenes and mixtures of romance, action, and morality are great.

JAPANESE POCKET MONSTERS (Pokemon): Great show... when in japanese, the dub PERVERTS EVERYTHING!!!!!!! don't watch at all unless you watch the japanese, which you can only find usually by downloading onto your com, my com has a HUGE load of em, but some people call that illegal, though 4kids didn't even put the stupid language track option on the dvd to be Japanese... so that is about your best bet, mIRC, AIM, or MSN. ;)

Fullmetal Alchemist: dark in parts, and has mild language, but it is likely THE most thought-provoking and heartbreaking anime I have ever seen, it is AWESOME.
Jesus is Lord.

I second Now and Then, Here and There. It's my favorite series EVER! It can be tough to watch for some people, so read the review first.

If you like thinking, try Irresponsible Captain Tylor. It's more of a comedy than a mystery or something, but you can try to decide whether Tylor is a lucky idiot , or the most brilliant tactical mind of his day.

I don't know anything about R2 availability on those, sorry.

Gonna buy Last Exile and Trigun first. After that, maybe Fullmetal Alchemist or Full Metal Panic (is it good?)

EDIT: Don't really care so much if there is fan service

full metal panic is fanservicee but its not.... tooo bad >.>

get Full Metal Alchemist!!! DEFINITELY! Oh and if you want to watch Inuyasha make sure you get the dvds. The japanese far out-does the dub, which usually makes blood spurt out my ears... T_T. FAR FAR FAR better than the dub.... *cringe*

Escaflowne does have tarot card stuff but the cool things is that Hitomi gives up reading the cards at the end because all they do is cause trouble. It's my tie for fave show with NAT,HAT. Fullmetal Panic is pretty episodic at times. And even though you don't mind it I feel the need to mention there is quite a bit of fanservice. And some excessive language..Nothing horrible but a mid PG-13 level. Anyway FMP is overall an average series though I liked it quite a bit. Heh I just ordered Last Exile...

Well, now I'm gonna get a region-free DVD player, finally. Now it has nothing to say if it's not out on R2 :D

Current list:
.hack//SIGN
GetBackers
Last Exile
Gundam Seed
Full Metal Alchemist
Trigun
Full Metal Panic

Anyone seen any of these?
Chrono Crusade
Crest of Stars
Final Fantasy Unlimited
S-Cry-Ed

Last Exile: V.01: First Move: Collector's Box - Should I buy this one or the normal one?

EDIT: R1=NTSC, R2=PAL. What is best of NTSC and PAL? Fansubs is NTSC material, and I think that seems just fine, but have never compared them to PAL

Try out Wolf's Rain. It's pretty thought-provoking and the characters are believable (and so is the storyline sometimes). There's mild fanservice--if you can call it that--with a half-dead girl whose hideous long, green hair wraps around her like clothes. Some language. It's bloody though.

I also recommend Rurouni Kenshin to everyone. ;)
Heart of Sword's Rhapsody

Money, get away
Get a good job with good pay and you're okay
And all and all you're just another brick in the wall
Shoutin’ in the street gonna take on the world some day
But Bismallah will not let me go
Because I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Tommy used to work on the docks
Union's been on strike
Bright eyes burning like fire
And exposing every weakness
However carefully hidden by the kids

Who will love a little Sparrow
Who's traveled far and cries for rest
Spare him his life from this monstrosity

I've seen a million faces and I've rocked them all
And if the band youre in starts playing different tunes
We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you!

Gonna check out Wolf's Rain, at least buy 1st volume. But that Rurouni Kenshin seems to be a little expensive, with 22 volumes :\

Kenshin is a great series. I wouldn't recommend buying the single 22 volumes though. There's 3 boxsets that collect them all for a much cheaper price in the long run.

Rurouni Kenshin: Legend Of Kyoto: Premium Box
Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Era: Premium Box

Is this the collection with them all?

I enjoy Chrno Crusade immensely. Many people, however, object with its content, as the main character is a nun who allies herself with a demon (who is essentially good, but a demon nonetheless). There's also a minimal amount of fanservice and violence, but if you don't mind the religious content so much, then I'd definitely say go for it.

Yeah, that is all of them.

Hard to say on that one. If you buying the frist vol just to see if you like it. Then I would buy the normal one or you could just but the whole box set that has all of the dvd vols in it.

Yes, that contains all of the Rurouni Kenshin TV series. The last one on that list, Rurouni Kenshin: Tales of the Meiji Era, is mostly filler material however...
If you enjoy the TV series, you will probably also want to watch Samurai X: Trust and Betrayel and Samurai X: Reflections as they tell the story of Kenshin's past and future respectively.

Anyone seen any of these?
Chrono Crusade
Crest of Stars
Final Fantasy Unlimited
S-Cry-Ed

I've haven't seen the Chrono Crusade anime but I have read several volumes of the manga. It was pretty good.

Crest of the Stars is something I've been wanting to see myself.

Final Fantasy Unlimited is not worth getting. Almost all of the reviews I've ever read of this series have negative opinions of it. It definitely doesn't live up to a good video game series.

I've seen a bit of the S-Cry-Ed anime. It is a pretty cool series with an interesting premise.

Last Exile: V.01: First Move: Collector's Box - Should I buy this one or the normal one?

That depends on whether or not you want the box and if you are willing to pay extra for it...

Gonna try to get first volume of Crest of Stars...Gonna check a store nearby someday, though they don't have a that good anime collection. They mostly sell manga :(

If you count just for the DVD...But then the total value becomes higher, and I have to pay extra taxes and such for getting it into the country. Let's say about $35-40 of the $60 in extra taxes :\

No no NO!
R1 is NTSC
R2 is NTSC (Japan) PAL (UK), SECAM (France)

PAL is acknowledged to be a better system but the issue is with the socket in the wall. NTSC uses 60hz while PAL uses 50. This affects screen refresh rates (30fps NTSC/25fps PAL). I'll spare the technical details, but the long and short is that the colors will be wrong and the sound out of sync if you put the wrong format in the player. If you're from the US, your TV is automatically NTSC...

If you only plan to get Japanese discs, then you don't need to worry. But if you plan to get European discs, then you need to get a DVD player that also converts from PAL to NTSC. They exist, though I haven't had a chance to try them.

I only saw a few episodes of Crest of the Stars, but it was a pretty interesting sci fi flick (plus the sequal, Banner of the Stars is good too)...I'm not sure how much of a "thinker" it is, but I don't think it's anything very deep (as oposed to dot hack sign, which is filled with symbolism and such).

As mentioned earlier, I recommend Now and Then, Here and There....very good, but intense, series.

Also, I haven't seen this series, but I heard it's very good, a story filled to the brim with symbolism and metaphors, I'm sure it's going to get your head thinking (Some say it's a love or hate, but if you appreciate a show like dot hack sign, you might enjoy it) and that's Haibane Renmei.

And depending how you view it, FLCL can make you think, despite it constantly having random and comedic scenes at every turn...because it's (at least the majority of it) a psychological-provoker focusing on the theme of growing up, facing fears, and plenty of other stuff. many obscure lines that might appear useless or thought to be used as a funny one liner usually have some purpose to forward the themes and messages it contains; you just have to dig deep to find them. (I found some intense analysis on this series, okay?) or you can just enjoy it for being a whacky wild action-packed....thing. =p

Finally, I'd also recommend Spirited Away, if you haven't seen that, it's a movie masterpiece, in my opinion...it's a bit of a thinker. Hail Miyazaki!

Ah, forgot that you were in Europe, so that would make things different. I see Norway uses a PAL format and I see by doing some research that most European players can convert NTSC.

I guess you're better off than we are in America then, with regionless players...

Here's an article on NTSC vs PAL that I found

Got first volume of Someday's Dreamers now. Gonna see if it works on my current DVD player, or else I'll have to wait for the other or watch on PC (which I really don't wanna, with that interlacing that is usually there :()

EDIT: Typo. Kinda big when PC becomes TV :p
