Metal Storm

Postby Slater » Sat Mar 05, 2005 1:17 am

Whoa... all I can say is whoa. No it has nothing to do with Anime, but it's still awesome.
Today I found out about a company who developes technology like I've never seen before... heck, never heard of it either! Have you ever seen a gun that can fire at a million rounds per minute? well, such a thing exists, believe it or not. They also do awesome firefighting technology. While I'm certain that none to little of this technology is used widely today, I think that such inovations would do everyone a lot of good. Why? Because not only does this MS group make weapons that are near-unstopable, but they are so controlled that collateral damage can be virtually avoided. Imagine a minefield that can tell the difference between a group of armed enemy soldiers and a shepherd with a cammel, allowing the former to be destroyed and the latter to escape unharmed. They're doing it, and much more

check it out, if just to gawk at that weapon that fires 1000000 rpm (it's the 36 barreled gun) :P

PS: I don't know if I should be posting this or not or if it even is a quality post. I've gotten about 5 hours of sleep in the past two days and I decide to change that here in about 2 minutes, so please don't hold any stupidness in this post against me. Oyasumi nasai.

This seems to be a legitamit site. At the same time this technology is completely amazing. If it is going to be used by the right people this could be a great thing. On the other hand, if put into the hands of a mass murderer or a terrorist, this could be disasterous. I almost wish this type of technology was never discovered. The little soldier inside of me however is still happily cheering.

Check out the video for the ODwyer VLe. They're making good efforts that this technology doesn't fall into the wrong hands. (anyone else have the movie Licence to Kill pop into their mind when watching that one?)

indeed piloswine, the same goes for Nanotechnology (which Straylight was always talking about Bless his soul) .
How far we take this depends on the moolah changing hands.
Though all that stuff is still in prototype stage. w00t?

Heh, I've heard about this, and I've already started mentally designing an exotic anime handgun based on this kind of tech.

At first I thought this was bogus, but...I don't know. It seems legit, like an above poster said. However, it needs to be noted that the gun can only shoot at a *rate* of 1 million rounds per minute. In reality, it only has a magazine capacity of 540 rounds, which would be expended almost instantly at such a high rate of fire.

Because they would be shot so fast and then gone (requiring a reload), I don't see the practical application of a ultra-fast firing speed.

It could be useful for shooting down missles, and other things tht go really fast. (and I am not making that up, it was on the site)

does anyone that's been to the site know if they mention anything about the type of ammunition that they use for these guns, i saw a reference to a "bursting" ammunition and i have to wonder if that means that the ammo itself explodes at a certain point after being fired, or that it's propelled by an air-burst like a paintball gun propels a paintball through the air, kinda curious 'cus i'm workin' on a book, and i made up some weapons for it with one being a gun that can fire pretty much any kind of projectile just so long as it can fit in the barrel 'cus the gun produces the force the propels the item

It uses a propellant, positioned behind each bullet. The bullets are justt regular run of the mill bullets.

That's classified as a Railgun, I believe, and I think they do exist. They use magnetic acceleration to power any sort of projectile over long distances.
