Questions about series

Postby Rysing_Furi » Wed Mar 02, 2005 7:35 pm

G'day everyone ^new guy here^
I was just wondering, has anybody seen "She, The Ultimate Weapon"? I haven't been able to find any reviews for it on the site, and I don't exactly prefer to go on the word of a reviewer that watches who knows what kind of anime (outside of this website that is =) and stuff, so could somebody tell me if its any good? Or hey! Maybe write a review!! :jump: Main thing im wondering about is if its any good and also the content thats in it (I prefer to steer clear of dodgy stuff, specially that which starts with the letter "H" :comp: )
Thank you kindly!

http://www.madman.com.au/saikano/index2.html
If this is it, it's available in America as "Saikano." I've only seen the manga, which is rated "M" (18+) due to nudity and sexual situations and vulgar 4 letter words. I've only read volumes 1-2 but it seems to be not safe for minors.
I understand that the anime is rated OT (16+ which usually means the equivalent of an R rating).

[EDIT] D'OH! Just noticed you're from Australia, so my "In America" comments will be useless. I guess our "R" deals with content similiar to your MA15 and maybe some under your "R"

Saikano? Is that what its called? :hits_self Giddy aunt! Ive seen that about a 100 times on different sites! From what ive found, the anime is a LOT better than the manga (no nudity, language) and is rated M (PG-13 in usa) for violence and adult situations (?) whatever that means. It looks pretty awesome though. Thanks heaps guys!

Ok, thats one down, ive got another one. Does anybody know of like, a police series thats of any good? I know of AD Police, and Parasite Dolls (which I will avoid or burn, one or the other ;), but thats about it. Any idea's?

Police Series:
You're Under Arrest (Light Comedy, the Mini Special from ADV is heavy on the fanservice) Kind of cute
Miami Guns (Comedy. Heavy fanservice)I liked it but many didn't.
Angel Cop (Extreme graphic violence and nudity)--avoid like the plague.

That's what I have in my collection anyway...

Here is a review for "She: the Ultimate Weapon." (a.k.a Saikano.) It's from THEM anime review: http://www.themanime.org/viewreview.php?id=517 .

Sometimes their a little lenient in their content review, and they only offer a couple sentences about it, but here's what they said: "While for the most part there is little overtly graphic violence, there are multiple very emotional deaths, multiple suicides, and a lot of general war-related violence. The show also contains brief nudity, some mild language, and a few sexual situations. Recommended for older teens and adults."
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I heard there was a Tenchi-based series following the galaxy police, but that's not for sure (and being Tenchi, you gotta be careful). Might be worth investigating.

Oh yeah-- Tenchi Muyo GXP. Sort of a spinoff I think

Tenchi Muyo GXP is indeed the name of it, it is a Tenchi spinoff starring a kid with the worst luck in the universe, name of Seina Yamada.

It's okay...it loses a lot of the fun and goofiness that I liked about Tenchi. The original cast shows up in one of the later episodes as a cameo...but if you're watching the dubbed version, BEWARE.

See, Pioneer did the original Tenchi series, but GXP is by FUNimation. So they didn't get the original dub cast back, and the new voices suck. BOO.

The robot is funny, and it's a TV series, so it doesn't have blatant nudity like Tenchi Muyo, but it DOES follow Muyo's storyline (not Universe's).

Thanks for the info people! Well after all of that, I think i'll drop "saikano" from the list, im very careful about what I watch and after reading a few reviews it doesn't do it for me. So no worries!

Yeah ive seen tenchi muyo, I liked it at the start but then after the 1st/2nd episode it got dodgy, and to quote the simpsons "you die now" so all of TM got my "banned for life" label. But no worries! I think i'll get Trigun instead, that looks a lot better! But thank you very much for the heads up people!

I have seen the first two episodes. So far it hasn't been too bad on the nudity sensuality scale. Not as bad as the manga, which I had to get rid of. The show is pretty good if you dispence with any and all reality. It isn't a "feel good" one though I don't think.

I have volume One but haven't finished it yet. This is an anime I want to see but I have been devoting my funds to others such as Gundam Seed, Rod, etc. Add this one to my "don't have the money but really want to see it" list.
A nightingale in a golden cage
That's me locked inside reality's maze
Come someone make my heavy heart light
Come undone, bring me back to life
It all starts with a lullaby

It's actually called Saikano. It's a 13-episode anime with a lot of beautiful artwork in it. At it's core it's a story of young love. But then you add the fact that the girl of the relationship, Chise, is equipped with government-sanctioned steel wings and a gatling gun fused to her body. Strangely beautiful and horrifying all at once... Anyway, be careful with this one. If there's one thing the series succeeds at, it's making it's viewers severely depressed. This one puts your heart through the wringer over and over again. Great series, but not for those looking for anything with a trace of happiness.
