A better question is why do girls go for guys who treat them like trash? It seems the more a man mistreats a women the more affection the girls want to try and get from that guy. At least from what I've observed. SOunds stupid, but I see it happen everyday.

I totally agree! That really bothers me! I ask girls how they are doing and they mention about the mistreatment from their boyfriends and then they say "it's okay, he loves me"...in my mind, I'm like AARRGGHH!! Are you too stupid to realize that he doesn't love you? He just wants to have sex with you and be done with you, that's all he wants!

Mistreatment is not love, it's hate, and that ANNOYS me to no end!

No,not me really.But don't take me as an average guy. I was raised with three sisters, my aunt and mom. I would preffer to open the door for the lady but if one opened it for me I say thank you and go on through,although this dosn't happen often.

Yep, to me a gentlemen is someone who is kind and gentle to the ladies, opens doors for them and things like that, AND EXPECT NOTHING IN RETURN!!!!...maybe a little respect...

I do that all the time (out of habit), and they usually dont even thank me , there are a few who do, but thats usually becuase they know I kill them if they didnt...

Very interesting thread so far. As a bunch of you have noticed, it is good to be friends first. In that vein, I would seriously recommend a book called Best Friends for Life by Mike and Judy Phillips.

As a guy, I don't have much advice. However, what I've read so far being described as a 'gentleman' seems like a saccharin sack [no offense intended to anyone or anything] I do understand where those come from, but a gentleman should be just as masculine and tough as he is kind and thotful. Besides opening doors and listening, a man needs to make a woman feel like she is completely safe around him-from him and whoever else they might encounter. So is that chauvinistic sounding? Let me know...

Making the woman feel safe is a must. If a guy wont stand up for his girlfriend he has no right to be with her, in my honest opinion. SHe needs to feel safe and secure, but the guy also shouldn't have to act like a pompous jerk to others (like picking on them) just to prove he's a macho guy. There's a difference between standing up and defending what is right and being arrogant. He must also be caring and charming but not too dainty. Also, showing respect for one another is one of the highest signs of love, and peoople sometimes fail to realize that. Sometimes I wonder what happend to the Chivalry codes... The guy needs to be both gentle yet strong when he needs to be. Perhaps a little old fashioned...

I would have to agree with this. .. unfortuantley its true for me personally (and a lot of other girls I know). But as forgiving someone.... it depends. I dont act overly dramatic and refuse to talk to someone if (for example) they say they dont like the shirt Im wearing or anthing like that, but on the other hand if someone said something truly hurtful, yes I would be quite angry at them. I would still be nice to them but still angry.

Also in my case no matter how hard they beg I may never be able to truly forgive them (but that depends on what they did. Im not talking about forgetting my B'Day or anything.. I mean like Ive had 'friends' who are all nice to me when they see me, but say some of the meanest lies about me to other people .... that really makes me mad.) But Ive had a lot of trouble with forgivness due to recent events in my life, so that may just be me.

Agafas, it seemed to me and still does that girls go for the bad boys and then complain. I get annoyed and jealous when this happens to, but I have to remember that my time will come when God feels its best for me.

I haven't ever had a girlfriend. But I want a girl that can be my best friend, so we know each other's pros and cons before deciding on whether we should go out, and God willing eventually get married. Personality is definetly a big one for me. I like fun-loving girls. Trust and respect and honesty definetly coincide with romantic relationships if one wants them to work. But above all putting God first would result in a more successful and happy marriage and then ofcourse your husband/wife.
Respect seems to be lacking from both genders but particularly guys in relation to girls. I walk on the side closest to the road and open doors for them. What are some other things that help? I can be a bit shy around girls to by the way.

Its explained well in another thread that girls and guys are made differently by God and therefore compliment each other perfectly when they become one.

Today I thought about it and being a gentleman is not all about holding open doors or being nice to girls.It is making a pact with our eyes and our minds.It is all the matter of where your heart is.That is where it all goes back to. Being a gentlemen has led me to be unpopular with the guys but I still respect wemen either way no matter what others will say. God meant wemen to be our other halves we would be incomplete without them,so that is why it is so important to respect them. I may not be popular with the guys but I know God is happy with my attitude.

I have a foolproof plan to deal with guys who stare at your rear. It requires a high powered lazer pointer, and a stun gun.
