Docs Work on Monk Who Glued Eyes Shut

:forehead: I've done some stupid things with my contacts, but this takes the cake:

Feb 23, 8:36 PM (ET) BANGKOK, Thailand

Doctors have partially restored the sight of an 81-year-old Buddhist monk who accidentally glued his eyes shut when he mistook a tube of superglue for eye drops.

The doctors at Angthong Hospital, 100 kilometers (60 miles) north of Bangkok, used a chemical solvent, acetone, to dissolve the glue in the monk's right eye, a hospital spokesman said Wednesday. The two-hour operation was done Tuesday.

"His eye is not damaged, the right eye can see clearly after the operation and the doctors said the left eye also is not damaged," a hospital spokesman said.

The monk, Phra Khru Prapatworakhun, who is the abbot of a temple in Angthong, was to have his left eye operated on Thursday, the spokesman said.

Yeah, I heard about this on the radio! Ack, that would suck so bad... I'm gonna have nightmares, man. Glad they're fixing him up.

You laugh, but my mother worked with a nurse who got her saline bottle and the bottle for her fake nails mixed up. They took her to the emergency room right away, and luckly were able to restore her sight.

i read about a mother who one day, before her son rode the bus to school, she quickly rushed to him and put eyedrops inside him. But it was accidentally superglue. The kid was like.... in a lot of pain but came out okay. She sued the glue company for making the bottle look like an eyedrop bottle. I believe she may have won the case

it was her fault for getting the wrong bottle...

Yeah, I agree that she should have been more careful. The company should make their bottles a little more distint, but people are sooo sue-happy these days. Kind of like suing Micky D's when you get fat because of your own bad judgement.

The really sad thing is that it's so hilarious when you read it and yet the poor man could have seriously injured his eyes.

It's funny because it just sounds hilarious when you read it.Kinda like it's funny when you read about someone who gets their tongue stuck trying to lick a frozen
pole in the middle of winter. But when it happens to you it isn't as funny.
Hopefully the monk was able to recover use of his eyes.
