There's only nudity in one episode of the anime....chest nudity scenes. Unless that bothers you to an extent, watch the OVA~

I got the OVA recently as well as the collectors box'ed volume 1 of the TV series.
But I've also heard there is some lesbian content in this series.

There's no lesbian content in ROD, Street. Close female relationships, but not to the point of say, the female characters kissing each other. Who told you there was lesbian content in ROD anyway?

And it's either episode 8 or 9, pyro.

.......that site claims a lot of anime which don't have lez content to have lez content.

Examples: Vandread, Gate Keepers, Azumanga DaiOh, Bleach (there's a gay girl, but she doesn't DO anything), Tsubasa Resevoir Chronicles, Angelic Layer, Noir, and several more.....

There are some titles they put in there that have gay characters, but they don't do anything suggestive. They're just....gay.

Some of the trailers I've seen for the TV series have a James Bond-esque Nude silohuette with words going over it. One of the characters costumes is a little fan servicey in the OVA, and if memory serves me correctly there is one kiss, but not on the lips and I didn't think is was meant to mean any sort of attraction.

KrecentMoon: Noir does have one scene in it towards the end that definitely falls into that category. That is the only one on that list that I have seen however.

The kiss that happen in ROD OVA, was when Ms Deep kiss the paper on the side of the neck. The reason she did this or from what I remember, the lip stick she had on was tracer.

Uh, I hate to break it to you, but Vandread is about a world in which men and women haven't really ecountered each other - and there's only one alternative. (You only really see one couple, though - Jura and Barnette.)

I agree with Kali. Remember Meia's 'parents'? Two chicks, though one assumed a male type role, which often seems to happen in gay relationships. In the first episode when the guys are launching their brand new ship thing, two guys talk about having a kid after their ship comes back to their planet.

Just because there isn't a kiss or anything doesn't mean that they can't be intrepid as Gay. Angelic Layer was made by Clamp and most of Clamp's anime's always try to leave it up to people to decide who the main character may end with. Granted I only watched the first 5 episodes though. But keep in mind that maybe the original creator wanted to hint at a possible gay relashionship.

Azumanga Daioh Of course has vary lesbian undertones. You can call it idolism or just something normal of japan of the way that girl acts with Sakaki.. But I think it's easy to see why she may be lesbian... It may never be truly accepted by Sakaki but there is still enough to say there is lesbianism in the show.

I haven't seen any of the other anime's.... anyways I could care less about gay undertones. I just watch anime for a good story.

They are not the only one's who claim ROD is a lesbian anime, But supposedly in the manga two of the girls which I guess includes the main character are indeed in a relashionship.

Anyways I gotta get to work. I suspect this thread will get locked or this post deleted or something, So I’m sorry for even bringing this up. It honestly wouldn't bother me if there was lesbianism in it or not but i'm sure if there was it would bother alot of other people here, so that's why I brought it up. So parhaps it's best we just drop the subject.

Well, this thread has certainly gone off topic.:eyebrow:

First off, that site Street placed here is one person's opinion. That person obviously doesn't want anything to do with anime and I would certainly not go there for advice on anime. I would trust the reviews here or on a more unbiased site.

Now, on Read or Die. I have seen a significant amount of Read or Die TV and I've watched the OVA a few times, because it's a really well done show and it has great music.

NO, Read or Die the OVA is not gay/lesbian, whatever. (-__-)\ oi vay! Krescent Moon is the only one who made any sense and who gave a straight answer (pun intended).

wingzero wrote:The reason she did this or from what I remember, the lip stick she had on was tracer.

Yes, this is correct. Also, Yumiko Readman was the first real friend Ms. Deep had ever had and her kiss was very continental and showed her affection for a friend, and was like a farewell kiss, because she would be leaving her. Friends kiss. I have friends from Europe and we peck each other on the cheek. My Korean roommates in my college years often walked with me with elbows locked.

When I was a missionary in other countries many of you America-only types would be appalled at how openly friendly all these other countries are toward those of the same gender. And guess what? They're not all gay.

We here, in our puritanical, pious way think that two women, or men, walking arm-in-arm or kissing as a greeting is a sign of being gay. Well wake up, America - we are the only country who does not openly embrace friendships in this way. There is a whole other world out there where love toward those of the same gender is innocently manifested by kissing and hugging.

Thus, in Japanese anime you have some friendships which are close between genders, where there is a deep love toward a friend, which is shown much more physically than we have here in Amercia; such as, the kindred love and friendship between Tomoya and Sakura in CCS.

Now, because I love my country and I don't want to bash it, I'm just saying we can be very odd in our puritanical upbringing. Let's face it, how many of us here are looked down upon because we enjoy anime. I've been told everything from I am selling my soul to Satan to I must be very backslidden because I enjoy anime.

Anyways, I think the person who asked about Read or Die should stay away from it. You never know how you may misconstrue the intent of Ms. Deep and Yumiko Readman's friendship - which is very platonic, but hey you better not risk the offense.

In fact, you need to stay away from any foreign films or anime because you may see a world that is not what you're used to.

Sorry, I'm a little on edge this morning, because it seems this dead horse just won't die and it continually comes up.

Either watch anime and enjoy the culture it is from, or stay away from it. :shake: It is between you and the Lord. I am completely secure in the Lord and what I watch. To each you must answer to your Lord in your own way.

In all you do, just don't let it become an obsession that comes before God, and you should be fine. ^____^

I can honestly tell you that what Krescent Moon stated is correct. I also wrote a really good review on Noir if you'd like to look it up in the Anime Reviews and we answered the question of whether there was a lesbian theme in it.

Also, the ROD T.V. from what I've seen of it, is more about sisterly love between the Paper sisters. R.O.D. in general seems to take the theme of sisterly love with both of these shows. Unfortunately, much more than was intended is read into these series. :eyeroll:

I just ask, we stick with the facts and it might help before assuming you know what the creator "meant" to actually go to the site or read the liner notes and find out what the creator of the series "really meant."

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

I think we're done with the gay angle. Redirect to another aspect of the show, folks.

I've watched a few episodes on G4 Tech TV, and I've thought it was really good so far! The worst I've seen is the opening credits, and I usually switch to a different channel until that part is over. The credits have what I believe CDLviking was talking about. It has silhouette-type nude women with writing over them, sometimes in provocative poses.

If you don't mind me asking... Did ROD start as a manga? And is it better than the anime series or OVA?

Ms. Deep's costume in the OVA is pretty fanservicy. I've seen worse but lets just say it makes her chest prominent. The opening of the OVA does have silhuette style nudes like you'd see in James Bond. This was one of the first animes I owned but I don't like it to much...Oh yeah the OVA is kind of weird...It seemed almost like a spoof of Bond films to me. So don't expect it to be deep or anything. As for the tv show I have no idea what is up with it.

How is this anime in more of a spiritual sense? Like false religion, witchcraft, etc., etc.

Very little that I've seen so far. I'm about half way through. The only remotely religious things I've noticed so far are an episode with vampire imagery using cross motifs and they play the tune to "What Child Is This."

ROD The Tv takes place about 4 years after the events of Read Or Die.
At least it's about 4 years. It might be longer. The only way of ascertaining
the amount of time that has gone by is that Nenene says in ROD The Tv
that she hasn't seen Yomiko for the past 4 years.
btw:Read Or Die was on CN while ROD The Tv airs on G4Techtv's
Anime Unleashed.AU has yet to run the entire series as they end it at around
episode 12.

It's actually 6 years after the OVA, and 4 years after the disappearence of Yomiko Readman (that's not a spoiler). A few characters from the OVA also make appearences again in the series.

A content warning for those who are looking into this before the review is finished. Episode 9 contains both an extended scene of detailed nudity (non-sexual, but also completely unnecessary and prolonged), and the most violence I've seen in the show to date (that episode alone would probably rate a 7 in my view).

The entire series has not been released yet, but I'm updating as soon as each new volume is available. Volume 5 is released on the 22nd of this month I believe.

"What Child Is This" is actually set to "Greensleeves", an older tune from the British Isles, so the music angle may or may not be intentional. That said, I haven't seen the TV series, so I don't know whether the lyrics are included. If they are, then please mention to disregard this point.

I only included it as the most remotely religious thing one could find. I really doubt it had any religious motive or intent. There is an episode that I have seen recently with a flashback scene to an abandoned church. Overall, I think that it is a generally positive scene with nothing too offensive.

Btw:The book that the Paper Sisters are sent to retrieve in that ep. is the same one that Yomiko is sent after in Read Or Die.

The three main holdovers from Read Or Die to ROD The Tv are:
1)Joker here called Mr.Carpenter
2)Wendy still his Girl Friday
3)Drake

Junior takes the place of Ms.Deep and even has the same abilities as her.
What his relationship to her isn't explained so far.
