WHAT SAILORMOON IN AMERICA COULD HAVE BEEN....*ominous music*

What is this monstrosity, you ask? Well, back when SM was first being imported to the states, several animation companies were in the bid for the distribution rights -- DiC and Saban the most prominent among them. This was the trailer they pitched to the company for their version of the show.

While DiC eventually won the war and gave us the botched-up saccarine-injected dub we all know and love today, Saban's original idea was to basically trash the show and RE-ANIMATE all the characters into a whole new 'americanized' cartoon that just vaguely resembled the anime (with Sailormoon bearing an uncanny resemblance to She-ra).

Oh, and if that wasn't evil enough, just check out the live-action Power Ranger-esque cut scenes. After seeing this, even the most bloodthirsty of anime purists will be seeing dubs in a whole new light.

Yeah, apparently someone from Saban got a hold of the tape and was showing it to people at an anime con...and some thoughtful person decided to film it for all the internet to see. I must admit, something this absurd ought to be saved for posterity.

I suppose for once, I should be thankful for my crappy dialup connection. If I had something better, I might have watched that, and I might have had to go injure people.

But, it's 10.9 megs, and I don't feel like waiting four hours to watch it. ^^
