Christian Comics Contest

Talk about anything in here.

I could try to wriye a story or something for the comic but i wouldnt be a good person to actually draw anything.

I might be able to draw it if I liked the story.

I am very curious as to what those of you who are forming entries are doing. This contest has largely left me wondering, in that I am uncertain what there is to be said in four pages. It needn't be posted here, but I would like to hear the ideas others are using. Along that line, there is no danger of me stealing anyone else's concepts.

I do have a very simple 4 page thing I sketched out a few weeks ago. I'll most likely post it anyway, regardless of whether it makes it to the competition or not. The most important thing is the message and that it gets out. Point is: I can't claim any ideas as my own per se since we're all always inspired by something God created first.

The idea was inspired by a speaker in church who was using a teacher as an analogy for God's grace (which makes me wonder whether the idea ought to be copyrighted by him or something weird like that). Anyway, it's about a kid who isn't doing really well in spelling. But so far it's been Ok since it's a written test (it's between him and teacher). One day, there's a spelling bee event and kid freaks out coz he gets all nervous and is ashamed of his spelling weaknesses. He screws up in front and expects the teacher to tell him to step down and sit down. But the teacher tells him to give it a try again. Kid is shocked and starts to cry "I can't do it! I'm a hopeless failure." But teacher tells him, "It's ok if you mess up. But I want you to keep trying to get it right. Don't worry, I'll be here." And the kid keeps trying with a renewed determination.

God doesn't expect us to get it right all the time and knows our weaknesses. But He does want us to keep trying to get it right and He's with us through it all.

Any thoughts?

Hey Mave. I like the idea of God anticipating our weaknesses. I truly believe that He does, and that His providence is awesome. I don't exactly know how I'd get that across to secular readers, other than some catchy slogan along the lines of "Coincidence...? I think not." or something. Kinda like the old tornado in a trailer park analogy. Being a chemist, I know the impossibility of life generating itself, and I have an idea along those lines, but no artist to sketch them for me.

I'm thinking of something relatively apologetic in nature, that uses scientific argument to undermine the basis of most of the "evolutionary theory" garbage that we assume is truth throughout the public school system.

If this sounds like a good idea that any of you artists might like to submit, tell me so I can give you a better understanding of what I'm going for. I'll take care of the research/writing, and you can get the art.
Our lives are but a vapor, let us not let waste our time and breath on vanities, but let us spend ourselves for the Kingdom, seeking a better resurrection.

Woo, this is a worldwide contest? Then that means you'll have those awesome 5-year old professional Japanese artists entering LOL @_@
Well, too bad I didn't hear about this contest sooner. It would have been fun to try out ^^ I don't think I'd be able to pull out a full-blown high-quality manga in almost less than a month ^^;

Well, I'm definitely not joining this time due to some factors, but I will be madly cheering for those joining! ^^ Go go! Please don't be discouraged at all, what matters is that everyone has a great time and concentrate on the message and not the winning ^^

Cool -- I'm looking forward to seeing some time what you two came up with! ^_^ Ink and I came up with a little something as well that she sent off a while ago -- some time we'll have to let you see that. :)

^^;;; I keep meaning to mention this, but after the contest deadline (March 30, I believe) anyone who would like to can send their comic entry from this contest to me and I'll post it on christianmanga.com in a new section. I'll be adding mine/Melmak's and Cal/Ashley's too. Well, you can send it sooner if you like, but that's when I'll post them. XD

That's great that we have representatives from CAA. You go, guys!

I won't be able to participate since I'm occupied with other priorities, which must be completed straight away in order for me to graduate from school. I do hope they will do this again next year. Good luck, everyone! \(*0*)/

I'm glad to hear that, but by nature I'll ask questions: how many finalists are there? How many will be featured? How many will receive aforementioned big prizes?

Well Ann, before you go get the book I'm not sure if being finalists automatically gets us in...you have to ask Inkhy on that one. But hey, I'm just glad we made the cut!

BTW, welcome back from Indonesia!

If I'm not mistaken, it was mentioned either on the site itself or in the e-mail Ink got that she forwarded to me that no one who entered the contest was disqualified. So all the entries are being shown at the exhibition. ^_^ (But it's still pretty exciting! X3 )

Edit: Last time I looked at the site, if I've got my information correct, they're going to be deciding on the winners first and then later on which entries will get published in the book.

Edit 2: Sorry to be so pokey with this... ^_^; Yes, glad to have you back, Ann!

Well, they announced the winners today on the site. Although no one I recognize came in first place in either category, a big congratulations is in order to our very own Gypsy for coming in second in the amateur category! :thumb: *applauds*

Now we just have yet to find out whose entries are going to be published in the book. X3
