baptism

Postby bakura_fan » Fri Jan 28, 2005 3:47 pm

well...I talked to my pastor today...and it looks like i'm gonna be getting baptised this Sunday. >_> I'm really scared....I know God's been calling me to do this...but still...I'm the type of person who likes to remain hidden....I'm sure most of the people at church don't even know I exist....something that the pastor said made me kind of smile....he said "It's ok to have attention sometimes." well anyway...like I said...I'm completely nervous...I feel like crying...I get terrible stage fright....so..large crowds make me nervous. The pastor said I should just look at him the whole time and not look at the audience at all...*about to cry* I will not cry...I will not cry....I will not cry...

Don't feel anxious, bakura_fan. :) This is something you are doing for Christ so it's okay to pretend that you and your preacher are the only two around.

Hey, i'm introverted myself, content to watch from the shadows. But i can assure you as a fellow Christian you will be fine. Remember that God always provides strength and courage when ours fails. We must learn to be dependent on God's strength, not our own. I know its hard, its a lesson i've learned many times the hard way (i can be very mule-headed sometimes) I remember my baptism, i kept my eyes straight ahead, not even looking at the pastor, with the exception of quick movement of my eyes to see where my parents were. So i know what its like to be a little shy. It's okay to be shy when your depending on God's stength, not your own. I know that Paul wrote to Timothy about God giving us a spirit of power, not of timidity. Good thing for people like us. I know its tough at first, and really it never gets completely easy from what i can see, but your tust in God will grow the more times you trust Him. I'm now being called to work on some missions over the summer. Why? I have no clue. I'm shy, don't have many skill's and none that are useful, but i know that He will give me the courage and skills i need. So for the times you feel scared, remember God is with you. Your baptism is one of the greatest events of your life, don't let fear rob your joy! And any other things God calls you for in the future remember that He is there with you. Rest in knowing His power is most seen when ours falls short and we surrender to His will, not our own fears and limitations. It has helped me more times than i can count, and it will help you as well. If i offended you (not to sure how i would by this message, but in case i did) i'm sorry and please let me know, and i will try to remember to keep my mouth shut next time (oh and if your wondering how if i'm shy i can write this to you, 2 reasons: 1, your a fellow Christian, and we need to encourage each other as God commanded. 2, i'm a little braver when sending written word to somebody rather than speaking face to face.) There, i hope that encourages you at least a little and that i was not too long-winded. Well congragulations on deciding to follow God's will. I hope you continue to do so always.

I was scared when I got baptised too and I did exactly what your pastor suggested, just looked at him. And breathe (before you go under the water of course). I almost forgot to breathe when I got baptised. You can do it!!!

I'll be praying for ya, bakura_fan. ^_^ For courage. I'm happy for you, deciding to do this. I actually had no idea who was going to baptise me when I did it, but my youth pastor did and he's the bestest. :brow:

The choice has been made. There's no looking back. I won't let up, back up, give up, or shut up. My focus clear. My path is straight. My God, reliable. I'm a disciple of Christ.

Gods plan is like the sun. its too big and bright to look at directly, and sometimes the rain clouds cover it, but sometimes the plan dapples through the clouds and we can see beautiful glimpses of what he has in store for us.

I wish I could tell you I was scared when I was baptised, but I honestly don't remember it--I was 4. But I *can* tell you it will be a pleasent experience and that you have nothing to worry about. Everyone will rejoice with you for showing your allegiance to Christ. You'll be fine, I know it. ^^

My advice: Wear DARK colors and just look forward.

Your pastor was right on. Just ignore the audience. I know it's hard, but I'm sure you'll do wonderfully, Bakura_fan.
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. These children all stolen under the cover of darkness from their homes and impressed into the guerilla armies of the LRA [Lord's Resistance Army]. In the deserts of Uganda, they are forced to witness the mindless slaughter of other children until they themselves can do nothing but kill. Kill. These children, generally ranging from ages 5-12, are brainwashed into murdering in the name of the resistance and into stealing other children from their beds to suffer the same fate.

Because of this genocide of innocence, hundred and hundreds of children live every night sleeping in public places miles from their homes, because they know that if the do not-- they will disappear. They will become just another number in this genocide to which the international community has chosen to turn a blind eye. They will become, in affect, invisible-- Invisible Children.

But there are those who are trying to fight against this slaughter of Uganda's children. They fight to protect these "invisible children." Please, help them help a country full of children who know nothing by fear. Help save the innocence. For more information concerning how you can help and how you can get an incredible video about this horrific reality, visit the Invisible Children home page.

I'll be praying for you, and try not to feel too nervous... ;)
Trust me, it will be perfectly alright!
Ha, was baptised like two or three years ago in a church with around 7,000 members. (Let's just hope they all don't decide to start coming, or we won't have enough room...)

I'm very happy for you. Don't even worry about the other people there. Only five people there count: you, you're pastor, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost.

Well done Bakura_Fan, you will be reborn in spirit. I was a little scared in my first baptism, but after I felt so happy because I felt the Holy Spirit inside me.

Love you, God bless you and congratulations on your Baptism

XD I still can't believe it.....Swordguy drove all the way from eastern WA over to where I was so he could see my baptism. ^_^ and this was our first time meeting face to face. I cried cause I was so happy. -_-; unfortunately...I have larengitus....so I couldn;t talk much...but it gave him and Nik some time to talk and get to know each other, too. ^_^ so..overall it was a very good day...I appreciate all your prayers....my dad has two pics of me at the baptism if any of you want to see them....

I'm sorry this is the first time I saw this topic.

Congratulations bakura_fan. I'm so happy for you and I can't wait to see what God has in store for you. I'm a guy who likes to hang in the shadows as well, but sometimes we must take center stage to do the will of out Lord. What a great first step for you to take.

I look forward to seeing the pictures!
