My dog's eyes...help???

Postby Heart of Sword » Sat Jan 29, 2005 4:58 am

My dog's eyes will suddenly turn red and look really weird, then in about ten minutes they'll be normal. She never paws at them and seems to have fine sight. I think there might be something up with the third eyelid but...is this a sign of disease??

More than three-quarters of the eye will be covered by a red film, and it's only one eye at a time so I don't think it's the "sleepy eyes" that dogs get when they're tired.

No she's been doing it for a while. It's not serious enough for vet though because of money. I just got her so a LOT of money's gone into her...ororo...

It's not the eye itself, it's the third eyelid, a film that covers their eyes when they go to sleep. She hasn't done it in a couple of days though.

We don't know if it's a breed thing because she's a mutt. Otherwise it might be easier. She looks like a black wolf with ears that flop over a little. ^_^ She's about a year old and so cute...

(By the way, another reason I can't take her to the vet is because her eyes aren't always like that and the vet couldn't really do much.)

since your dog is a mutt, she might have st. bernard or basset or boxer in her... those breeds and similar ones are prone to having eye problems... i think, if i remember correctly, that since they have droopier eyes, the eyelashes have a high risk of turning in toward the eyes, instead of away from, and irritating the heck out of the eyes. i think that there is some minor surgery that can be done to correct this, as well as eyedrops, or something of the sort. (watching animal planet with one's little sister does pay off every now and then...) hope your dog's eyes get better.

She hasn't done it in a really long time so I think she's alright.

She doesn't have St. Bernard, Basset, or Boxer in her. I would say wolf/lab if her eyes were yellow. *hugs*

Thanks for helping out!

Your dog is being controlled by evil alien invaders, who will turn her into a giant canine killing machine, and the red eyes indicate that she's going into murder mode.

Or not.
