An Open Invitation to the Colorado Members

Postby Saint Kevin » Thu Jan 27, 2005 12:27 pm

Hey people from Colorado, I just wanted to let you know that the University of Colorado at Denver (On Auraria Parkway between 7th and 9th) hosts an anime club that meets almost every friday during the semester at 3:00 sharp.

If you are interested in attending, just come to the Plaza building, room M203, at 3:00 PM on just about any Friday. The only days we won't meet are during breaks or holidays, and I can update you guys to those if you'd like. This week, Friday January 28th, we are watching Ghost in the Shell. Fitting that we revisit a classic given all the attention to GITS: SAC on Cartoon Network.

Don't feel intimidated by the fact that you are not a college student. We don't bite, and we certainly won't look down on younger anime fans. Also, you may just get the chance to meet me. Just tell them Kevin sent you, and everything will go alright.

Also, I wanted to post a flyer from my anime club in this thread, but I need to go to O. Chem and I don't have time to figure out the image hosting. I couldn't get a png file to attach for some reason, so I had to save it as a .doc file. Sorry about that, I haven't exactly figured out these school scanners yet.
See ya,
SK.

Aw, man! I wish I still lived in Colorado! That sounds so cool! Sadly, though, we moved away from CO about five four years ago. o_O

I'd go but

1) I don't want to see GitS. (Sexdroids?? Oi...)

2) I don't live in Colorado.

Best of luck with it though! ^_^

Money, get away
Get a good job with good pay and you're okay
And all and all you're just another brick in the wall
Shoutin’ in the street gonna take on the world some day
But Bismallah will not let me go
Because I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Tommy used to work on the docks
Union's been on strike
Bright eyes burning like fire
And exposing every weakness
However carefully hidden by the kids

Who will love a little Sparrow
Who's traveled far and cries for rest
Spare him his life from this monstrosity

I've seen a million faces and I've rocked them all
And if the band youre in starts playing different tunes
We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you!

That's in Ghost in the Shell 2. And besides it's only a name for them it doesn't go further than saying that they have "parts" most androids don't have. But Ghost in the Shell does have some frontal nudity.

Just an official mod note: While we're happy about CAA members getting to know each other offline, be safe when doing so. Bring someone you trust if you're unsure, and be cautious with your contact info online as you'd never know who's seeing it.

Have fun, safely!

Awesome, I would love to go sometime. I don't really want to see GitS though, as it looks dark in a spiritual sense to me, and I hear that there's alot of nudity. But please keep me updated on what's going on every week, Kevin. Arigatou gozaimasu! ^^

Yeah, on the surface that's kind of a bummer. But rest assured that God has a plan for where He's put you, and that it's for the best.

Yeah, I'm going to college at the University of Colorado at Denver. We actually have 3 different colleges (CCD, UCD, and MSCD) in one place in downtown Denver to save space and share resources. It actually works out pretty well, considering there are some 30,000+ sutdents represented on the 3 campuses.

I have been going there for a year and a half now, after transferring from another school in the state that shall remain nameless, but that had incredibly high tuition. Too high. Anyway, yeah, I'm studying Chemistry and Spanish.

agentsmith700 wrote:teheheheheh I'll be in attendece!

Wow, did you actually go on the 28th? If you did...I'm sorry I wasn't there. I don't have a car every Friday, but from now on that will not be a problem since I have a bus pass and I intend to use it (and used it about a week ago to go to anime club in fact). Another thing now that I think about it. Transportation is your responsibility, so be aware of bus schedules and so forth, if you do that kind of thing. That said, we usually end in the range of 6:45-7:45, give or take, and some RTD buses stop running as far after certain times at night. Consider yourself warned.

Back on topic...
This week, Friday February 18th, we will be watching Ninja Scroll, and the first Inuyasha movie. While I'm fairly certain that the Inuyasha movie is ok, I'm fairly sure that Ninja Scroll has a lot of blood (and maybe some nudity, I can't remember). In that vein, I can never guarantee that the anime that we watch from week to week will be appropriate, tasteful, or even good.

There have been some bad weeks (e.g. The week we watched all 3 Fatal Fury movies) and there have been some good weeks (e.g. the 2 weeks that we watched Fruits Basket, and last week, when we watched Ah My Goddess the movie and series). Again, consider yourself warned...these are college students after all, so the usual rules of what can and can't be watched in school that some of you are used to will not apply. Thanks a bunch, and I hope to see you there.

P.S. I'm the dude in the Michigan Wolverines jacket, hanging out with a couple of big guys in trenchcoats. We won't bite (promise) so feel free to pull me aside and introduce yourself.

Dang. I refuse to watch Ninja Scroll due to the content (see the review on here), and I'm not far enough into the InuYasha series to be ready for the first movie even (next ep for me is 31, I hear the first movie comes in somewhere in the 50s, but where exactly I don't know, though I'd sure like to).

Yeah Ninja Scroll crosses the line in sexual content to the point of it being practically hentai. It's a shame really since the story and the action is pretty good.

I just won't let myself watch something like that. That's way past my line. Plus I heard the action is far too gory (again see the review). o_O

That's what the reviews are there for bro...maybe next time. Oh yeah, due to valid concerns like these, I will always try to know ahead of time what is being shown, and post it so you guys can know whether or not there is something you'd like to see.

Sorry I didn't post it sooner, but this week we are showing the 6 episodes of "Knights of Ramune," and 1 episode of GTO, with more to follow in the coming weeks. Knights of Ramune has some disturbing sexual content, while I've never really heard anything about GTO, but it seems to be a popular enough series that you can get a review on it by spending maybe a minute on a search engine.

Last week, we watched Puni Puni Poemy, and the first Inuyasha movie. They were night and day different from each other. Inuyasha really had nothing that I objected to, while Puni Puni Poemy didn't even wait until after the opening credits to get crude. I was offended probably more times by that 2 episode anime than by really any anime that I've ever seen before. Yeah, it was worse than Ninja Scroll would have been (we didn't watch that btw).

Just...please...skip that anime. There is nothing worthwhile to it at all.

I'm really getting less than optimistic about the possibility that we might show some fairly clean anime for the entire 3-4 hours of a meeting. It's happened before, so I suppose it is possible, and I will still keep you guys posted on what's going on.

Also, pray for the people there, that God might break through to them, and that they would repent and be saved. One person in the club seems to be coming around, but still, it's something I definitely want you guys to pray for if you read this.

Also, some news: I've become more or less a treasurer of sorts, and we may be able to get money from this school for our club (if not this semester, then definitely the next one). This means that we could probably throw a big party of some kind, have pizza, or otherwise do something cool at the end of the year. If that happens, I will do what I can to get the anime that we watch on those days to be some clean titles. Pray for that.

Till next time,
SK.

Ouch, that bad? So it had alot of crude, sexual, fanservice material? Could you expain better what you mean?

I'd actually rather not. If you really want to know the details, PM me, and I'll explain further.

On a related note, this week wasn't really any better. While we watched the first ep of GTO, and that was tolerable, we also watched "Knights of Ramune." Knights of Ramune was basically a hentai, so I flat out left after the first ep or so.
