Has this happened to you? A pornagraphy web adress shows up outta nowhere in the history bar, and it's at the top of the list as though it was the last thing selected? Obviously it happened here on both Fire Fox and Internet Explorer. It's only www. three letter word>.com. and it's shown up one all three of our computers. I think I first found it the day before yesturday and simply cleard my history, but my sister said it was there yesturday and I cleared the history again... Really, I'd hate to think that anyone of my younger siblings...

Well, that's got to be better than 12 "nope, never happened before it sucks to be you" posts. Don't get too caught up in view #s, especially since they are often inflated due to editing.

Anyway, about your problem; have you tried deleting your cookies and not just the history?

Because I have come across porn sites on accident (*kicks google*) and even after deleting them from the history AND deleting the history, they still pop up. Deleting the cookies is the only way to stop them. Whether what Feng-Li is facing is similiar or not I don't know; it was just a suggestion if nothing else works anyway.

I thought the problem was on how they got their in the first place and not how to remove them? :sweat:

Might want to do a spyware and virus scan too, if you haven't already. One day as I was shutting down my computer for the night an alert box popped up asking if I wanted to change my home page to some URL I'd never heard of. I wish I would've looked at the address more closely before I clicked No, so I could see what that site was and figure out how it helped itself to my system enough to be able to prompt that alert....

If there's a popup or a link in the website for a pornsite, that will sometimes show up on the History, whether you go there or not. I'd recommend tracing your steps back to see if there was a site with a porn link attached and that's your probable culprit.

As for getting rid of it, even after telling whatever program to get rid of the history, it will still be there until you reboot (I use System Mechanic 5 and this is what the program tells me).

With Ad-Aware, remember to check the "Negligable Items tab before having the computer get rid of the entries.

[EDIT] Also, setting up your computer to purge memory on shutdown is useful, though it takes an extra 20-30 seconds to shut down.

WARNING: USE AT OWN RISK!

WIth XP, Purging memory clears the swapfile and virtual memory from the hard drive for security purposes. I did it through System Mechanic, but without that, it's supposed to be a registry hack where you go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\Memory Management and add a DWORD named "ClearPageFileAtShutdown" with the value of 1.

I'd *STRONGLY* recommend getting confirmation from another source before screwing around with the registry though.
If you just did a reboot, this may not be necessary. I just have 4 levels of secirity on my computer though.

OK, then never mind the memory purge. As long as you clear history and reboot, you should be OK unless there's something hidden away.

Simply delete everything that appears in ad-aware. Not all spyware is bad, not getting rid of harmless spyware doesn't do anything.

Never click No! Just close the window. Clicking "no" rarely does what you'd think it will do.

It sounds like spyware to me, but your scan came up pretty clean, so perhaps it is the cookie thing.

That's why I have stopzilla installed on mine, because it protects the home page and asks you whether you want it changed. There, it's safe to say no.
