Writers Block

Does anyone here get writers block? I do. I have been trying to write a story lately and it just doesn't sound right! I guess I think about that too much because I really can't progress in the story. Anyway, if you wanna share your thoughts or just give me some pointers, feel free to post!

Most of the time, I plan my stories out before writing, or at least have a good idea of the series of events. This can help a lot.

Still, times of writer's block are inevitable. At times, all that can be done is to do another activity and hope inspiration strikes. However, having an outline allows you to slog through a section even if it isn't any fun. You can always go back later and change it.

Maybe you should check out Fictionpress.com or Fanfiction.net in the columns.. There are some writer's block tips there.. (I don't know where exactly)

I had it often.. now I have lots of ideas and inspiration!! It comes from viewing anime, reading manga and a lot of people I observe..

Now I'm writing one story, and I'm always lazy to type or to write.

and it's incredibly hard to do it in English (not my native language) .. and if I begin in Dutch I just don't want to translate!! XD Another problem is that I can't tell/describe very well.. ^^;

I'd rather draw actually..

I had writer's block for six months once. It was horrible.. It happens to us all. Natural part of life. The main trick- I think Orson Scott Card said this, or maybe Ben Bova, I don't remember- is to try to write everyday, even if you sit there and stare at the word proccessor for 20 minutes... You've at least made yourself think about it and try.

WB, the greatest obstruction on the history of writing... when i have writer's block, i tend to do something else, that always clear my mind.. then i go back to the writing, some ideas start to form. well, that's my way of handling it.

I have no surefire method of defeating writer's block. I'd appreciate any suggestions myself. Especially ones regarding climactic action-y scenes. -_-

yeah..I suffer from writer's block too. I don't have suggestions in particular, but I am finding that trying to 'force' inspiration usually results in me sitting at the PC for a long time with little to no results. I find that the harder I try in said situations..the less I accomplish and the more likely I am to go back and delete what I tried so hard to "write". But if I leave it be and do something else, then inspiration will strike me in its own good time and I can go on with the story.

Yeah, there is no sure way, the most part for me is music, the tempo and mood of the music brings me some good inspirations when the brain stops working. Though for some this could be a distraction.

Writers block. Just can't stand it. I've switched from creative writing to informative writing mostly because of it and the fact that I seem to be much better at it. I've always had trouble ending a story or getting a good amount of detail for readers to better understand the story.

To help get rid of writers block maybe watching some t.v. and movies might help. Or maybe even reading some books that relate to your story. And some of the others that have already been mentioned. I've heard that writing on something else can help too - you have other things to keep you busy for a while and you can get to your other story with more of a fresh mind.

ShiroiHikari, what is your particular issue? Because while I may not be the best author, I can definitely do climactic action scenes.

I always have a legal pad around. :cool:

Each legal pad is a book or short story, comic or whatever. Doodling inspires sometimes or watching people or my dogs. Life is always inspiring. I agree with most of the comments here. Music is very inspiring and always puts you in the mood for a certain genre.

I guess I'm trying to say I cure writer's block by having my legal pad available at all times. I take it everywhere with me - me and my little pad. I can't write on the computer. I always hand write everything before the computer. :stressed:

Well, every so often I might write direct on the computer.

Oh yeah, regarding climactic action scenes: You need to get alone, so you're not embarassed, and act them out. *tee hee* It makes you see and feel the action. Any-hoos, you'd get a lot of exercise. :lol:

Just don't hurt yourself. :sniffle:

That would be bad.

Heh. 1337. The legal pad idea works very well. I have a tendency to get ideas at the most bizarre of times. While I don't carry a legal pad, I make sure to write them down. You'd be surprised how easy it is to forget nifty little things. Especially really witty lines for characters.

I just use random topics to over-come writers block... It works sometimes, but sometimes it dosen't.

Anything that you spend large amounts of time concentrating on WILL, inevitably run into a sort of "block".
