How do you draw destroyed objects/scenerys?

Postby Warrior 4 Jesus » Wed Jan 12, 2005 7:01 pm

I wondering how you learn to draw destroyed objects/sceneries. For example chairs, shattered windows, things falling apart and torn. Are there any tutorials to explain how to do this?
Its hard to explain what I want help with, but if someone understands, great!

Thanks!

Chairs: wood shatters with the grain usually, into somewhat triangular edges.
Windows: Glass out = triangles in the frame?Glass in = draw a point for each impact straight lines out from there and concentric circles around the point.
Falling apart: depends. look for news footage of disasters or pictures of war zones
Torn: draw a hole or a slit and draw the fabric outside of the slit in a jagged/torn pattern.

Uriah, I don't own a Colt .45
So as much fun as your idea is, I'll stick with Mechana's advice. Thanks!

If I get a break from my artwork I'll try to do sketches.

I haven't had much experience with destroyed scenery... but, from the top of my head - when cloth is ripped you might have threads hanging loose, or just a couple still attached in the middle of a large hole.

Mechana suggested jagged, sharp lines - that's what I was thinking as well. If you are drawing vegetation, perhaps even what vegetation has survived is withered, has jagged, ripped edges on the leaves, half-broken branches hanging at funny angles... curled leaves....

Probably nothing that you didn't already know, but I hope it helps, anyway. :)
