Around 12:45 last night...

Saphire had babies. ^^ Me and Kinko were getting ready to go to bed, and I noticed, little red blobs under Saphire! ^__^

I don't know whats wrong with her, and why she just had babies now, but it was a great surprise. I didn't expected it at ALL.

She had five, but three died. So there are only two left.

They seem healthy, and they are now about 11 hours old. ^_^

I am happy. Now I need to get the pics on my computer! I can start showing you guys.

Once they're past the one-day mark, they usually survive. (And don't worry. Usually it's only a couple that live anyway :(...it's sad but that's how God keeps them from overpopulating...like He does with wolves and should probably start doing with humans :lol: )

What kind of animal is saphire?
Every year in Uganda, innumerable children simply. . . disappear. I don't think so, not with gerbils. I don't know about in the wild, but in captivity, most of the offspring survive. Our last couple had four litters, and all but one of the twenty babies survived past maturity. And we think it died from other causes (we had some complications after they were born.), not from birthing problems or anything like that.

We have suspicions about Saphire. I don't think she's a very good candidate for breeding. Seeing as it took her so long to actually have the babies, and that she gave birth to three dead ones... and one of the live ones -now that we've gotten a better look at it, seems a little sickly.

Hopefully they'll all live. That would be sad if one of them died now.


Sam*ron took some pictures of the babies and stuff. But it seems she can't get the pictures off the camera onto her computer. So it might be a while before she can get the pictures up. She's working on it though.

Thanks guys. Here are some pics, of them. Sorry about being so blurry.

1.This is when they were being born, last night.

2.Here is the one that died, it's alive there.. I am glad I could get some pics of it before it died.

3.This is the one thats still alive. Cute! ^^

4.Here they are together, before the one on the right died, you can see that the one that died is a little bit paler than the one on the left, that shows that it was sick. [it's still alive in that one]

Warning, the baby IF it doesn't die, will grow fast, so it will be real fun to watch it grow!! I can't wait to show you guys all of it!
