Talk about anything in here.

Kansas Snowstorm (aka "why I have not been online")

Postby uc pseudonym » Thu Jan 06, 2005 10:09 am

Rather than state this where ever it applies, I believe it would be most efficient to say this once and link to this thread if necessary. The purpose is to describe my current situation, as well as the probable situation of all other Kansan members.

There has been a massive snowstorm in Kansas (and quite likely nearby states). It is statistically one of the worst in recent history. As of yesterday, 81,000 buildings were without power. In my own town there are, literally, hundreds of snapped power lines that are live (that is a personal figure, however). A great many trees are being destroyed by ice accumulation, and earlier in the storm there were branches falling large enough to kill a person (no fatalities at this point as far as I know). Driving is very icy. Heaters are often out, and my house is barely above freezing.

I'm not telling you all this to complain, though I imagine the work crews could use your prayer, but to point out why I have not been online recently, and why it might not be practical for me to be online too extensively in the future. Basically everyone with broadband lost their connection.

Despite this, God is with us. I'll be doing my best to be with you.

we in Oklahoma were affected by this same system, although not quite as badly in my neck of the woods. nevertheless the roads are treacherous and some have died already in car crashes. lots of people are also without power and heat in northwestern and western Oklahoma, so pray for those people too. I hope things warm up for you all soon, UC.

I live in a warm section of NC, so I don't have a problem, but I will be praying for the workers, and the people who have lost loved ones. I will also pray for safety for those of you who live in that area.

Stories like this makes the Texan coast not seem so dreadful after all. My prayers are with you and your community, UC. (And you too Nette, but you already knew that ;) )

Oh no UC! I was wondering what happened to you.

We're getting loads of snow here in Michigan too! I don't know how much but I had to scrap off at least 10 inches off my car today after some serious snowing last night. @_@;; It's crazy!

I pray that you and your fellow Kansas residents will be able to keep yourselves warm and regain your basic necessities. Oh I'll include Oklahoma in my prayers too!

Then there are stories like Texas City and the Galveston flood that come to mind... but I digress.

Take it easy UC.

Just the other day I was thinking "Drat that Global Warming/Cooling/Climate Change/Whatever."

It seems pretty cold in a number of places; I hope that you stay safe as well. We have less snow, more ice. The worst I have seen is an inch of ice (plus or minus a tenth).

Things are pretty bad where I am, too. I'll definately be praying for you (and my other fellow Kansans as well).

[i]Two vast and trunk-less legs of stone stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand, half sunk, a shattered visage lies. Round the decay of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare the lone and level sands stretch far away. On the pedestal these words are inscribed:

“My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!â€

I feel for you, UC. Minnesotan snow can be just as bad, but it hasn't happened in recent years. We always get a huge load of now in March or April. :shady:

My wife is a teacher, and I sub, and school was supposed to start Tuesday. We live outside of Dodge City, and they hadn't cancelled school yet by the time we needed to leave. So we headed out onto the black ice. About three miles from town, it finally comes on the radio that Dodge cancelled school.

Come to find out they waited so long because the superintendent didn't want to cancel, but the school board vetoed her and cancelled it anyway.

We got hardly any snow, just ice and freezing temperatures. Not nearly as bad Wichita and the other areas with all the power outages and falling trees.

You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. Rom. 6:18

God can do anything, anytime, anyway He wants to.......if He wants to paint me blue and hang me upside down nekkid from an apple tree, thats alright, as long as it's God doing it. Of course, if He comes through with a directive like that, I might have to ask for some I.D. Michael Wanke
