Talk about anything in here.

We have more animals unique to our country than any other in the world (I think :P)!
And that's not true about it in the zoo. My friend has a possum + baby living in her shed. I see kookaburras and galahs almost everyday, kangaroos come onto your very lawn (pests!) and we even have some koalas living nearby. You must live in the very heart of some city matie if you dont see those animals regularly.

Edit: echidnas are cool! :D I love their cute noses!

We live in the suburbs and see lots of galahs, lorikeets, cockatoos and other birds and the occasional koala. Have you ever seen an echidna charge? They look so funny (they kind of waddle when they do it). I've had my shoe licked by an echidna (ants crawling all over it) and its tongue tickled. I patted one too, but you have to watch for when they flinch! Don't want those spines piercing your skin!

Indeed, echidnas are cool.

Well, it's not exactly city here, but it's close enough. We do have our share of possums annoying my family at night, and kookaburras are everywhere in the morning. There's a forest nearby to my place, and thanks to the stream there are many things living there. Probably not kangeroos though, they don't live in dense forests.

Poor Kiwis, got their thread hijacked. *pokes*

When I was visiting my uncle in the NSW Hunter Valley last March, there were a few roos about, but I didn't see many kookaburras or much else. This was out around Dubbo.

Sorry, didn't mean to hijack anything. I'm not a spyware.

I want to go to NZ to see how earthquakes feel like without getting killed. Probably feels like the world is going to fall and everything.

All I know about NZ is that Ernst Rutherford lived there.

He said that all other sciences, when compared to Physics is mere stamp collecting.

As a biologist, I take great offense to that (not really). All other sciences may depend on Physics, but science as we know it couldn't have existed were it not for biological entities discovering its principles

First of all, thanks for the info on your home country :thumb: .

I just have one correction to make...

CreatureArt wrote: Actually there's a lot of disagreements with the Australians. A bit like America and Canada, I suppose. Friendly rivalry.

I wouldn't say that we (that is, the United States) has a "friendly rivalry" with Canada. After all, we have almost 10 times the population of Canada, so they aren't really big enough to be our rivals.

Not something that I would expect you to know, but I couldn't help pointing it out ;) .

Actually, that's basically the same as Australia and NZ (population wise). We are still the biggest of rivals though

ROFL - yep, NZ's population is basically outnumbered just by SYDNEY!

Where I live isn't near any faults or anything - we don't tend to get earthquakes. Further south, though - yep, that's where they'll often get small ones.

Heh - I don't mind the thread getting hijacked. ^_^ . I agree - Aussie animals are COOL. We get your beautiful rainbow lorikeets around here in the wild - not sure how they got here but there's a swarm (or flock, if you prefer) that fly around my area every so often. Then I see the odd one while cycling. They're beautiful. Haven't seen an echidna before... but koalas are cute. We have random wallabies on this coastal island in Auckland... no kangaroos, though. Galas rock. So do kookaburras. One of my favourite NZ birds is the pukeko, though. They're so cute and colourful, and I see them very often (actually the greedy thigns stake out the chicken coop in case any of the food drops outside and they can get it.

Happy New Year, all. Hope it's going well.

O.O
*pelts Kae with tomatoes*

That is SOOOO not right! NZ has a completely different climate from Aussie, as well as different plants, animals, people, accents... they are different countries! Grrrrrrrr
;) I still love them both though, they are kinda like siblings. Just look at ANZAC!

Hey Kam, good to see you again.
And no, like Talame said, they're pretty different, sort off, yeah.

Hey Art, tell me the kiwis get like REALLY up tight when the All Blacks lose right?
Its like their national pride, is that right?

And is the south or north island better? Which one are you on ? and how far are they appart, like ferry distance?... 1/2 and hour or quite abit?

Cheers.

*Joins in the tamato peltage. Then starts a bonfire, raises a pitchfork and leads an angry mob shouting out indiscernable phrases.*

Yes, Aus and NZ are like siblings. I love the ANZACs. Our two countries joined together and our citizens gave their lives side by side. It's very touching.

Yes, we do have quite different accents. Dance, chance, six, the infamous fish and chips... (we do NOT say fush and chups *pouts*)

As for getting uptight when the All Black lose the rugby... *sets up the tamatoes, bonfire and pitchfork mob again and sets them on Zane and Talame* . ;) . Seriously - I don't really have an interest in rugby. Often I don't even know the season's ended (or started in the first place, for that matter...) . Somehow, though - (true story) - I managed to be sent a Rugby series DVD. I've been trying to find friends to give it to - but no-one likes rugby! (still looking).

I think both NZ and Aus are beautiful - very different, but just as beautiful. Most of all, I love being able to spot dolphins when out on the boat. (doesn't happen often, but it does happen).

You do!! You DO!!! FUSH AND CHUPS!!! FUSH AND CHUUUUUUUUUUUPS!!!!
*rolls on the ground screaming hysterically*

;) When my mum first came to Aussie, she was in a small camp like thing and went up the manager to ask for some 'pegs' to hang up her washing. Because of her accent though, the guy thought she was saying 'pigs' ;) LOL!

Anyway, I dont care for the rugby either. The only sport I do watch is the State of Origin rugby league match that involves Queensland vs NSW ;)
