Just starting watching Berserk cause I thought it sounded like a pretty good Anime, but I can't seem to see why so many people recommended it. Any thoughts from your side?

I am greatly concerned about Berserk's content level, especially with the level of violence and the rape scene within it. I think it would be a very difficult anime to recommend.

Berzerk is gory and some of its contents are qustionable.
Yet for a person to watch it it deals with their actual convictions.

I can't recommend it, due to the imagery involved... violence, rape etc. I have seen most of the series. The plot is convoluted and confusing as well. The story in interesting, but the graphic presentation of the content was not favorable to me.

I echo everyone else's sentiments. Though, slightly OT, the opening song is one of my all-time favs.

I wouldn't recommend the manga either--which is made evident in the first few pages.

I liked the OP too, though it does have the dubious distinction of being a song performed in English that still needs the subtitles.

It wasn't the worst thing I ever saw, but I think the violence kind of overshadowed any redeeming factors it might have.

If you want a good fantasy series, personally, I liked 12 Kingdoms.

Did anyone ever play Berserk: Guts Rage for the Sega DreamCast?

Apparently it was based on the anime. You played as "Guts" and walked around with a really large sword, slicing up people. It stopped being fun after about a half an hour.

pesonally, i would recommend it becasue the characters are so great. Caska, gutts and Griffith all have such different dynamics. However, with this recommendation come with the the warning that it is very bloody and has some sexual content. The characters are real and in this story, the ending is not the usual everyone finds peace and goes on their way. the story, the characters, are so beautiful becasue through the series, all masks are ripped away and we see the people themselves, their true hearts and feelings and what they would give up in order to attain their goals. also, if the anime bothers you, the manga is worse in all aspects. more blood, more violence, however, ratio wise there is not much more sexual content. maybe even less due to the longer story(27 volumes now!) the anime covers vol 3-10 I think, and it skips some in there too. again, i cannot say enough times that if you have issues w/ violence, to steer well clear, but if that does not bother you, I would readily suggest this anime. The dub version is not that bad either.

I don't think characterization is enough, though, for those that find such issues stumbling blocks.

again, i say i never recommend this anime w/out those warnings. if i have in the past on these boards, i do apologize. If you do enjoy this type odf anime w/ strong characterization, gungrave is very good and doesn't quite have teh blood quotient or demonic stuff or any sexual content. it has been descried as berserk w/ guns and is cleaner, but it is still very violent, but in its own way.
