Warning about the New Doctor Who

Well, for all you fellow Who fans, BBC is bringing the show back with new episodes sometime next year.

And no, they won't be bringing back Paul McGann to play the 8th Doctor. Instead, they're going to regenerate him again to give us the new 9th Doctor, played by Christopher Eccleston. (I miss Sylvestor McCoy )

There'll be hip graphics and such, from what I've seen.

But there is bad news....
For one, BBC is doing it, and they've been swinging WAY left these days. I mean, in Europe porn is a way of life. And BBC is no moral saint. I'm hoping they won't have the Doctor baring it all, or anyone else doing the same, in ANY episode.
Secondly, the man hired to produce and write the series is Russell T. Davies, was also the creator, producer, and writer of the HBO series "Queer As Folk", an extremely pro homosexuality series. Ugh. This doesn't bode well.

So long as Mr. Davies keeps that out of the series and the show remains free of explicit sexual content, I may watch it. However, who knows really?

Anyhow, for fellow Who fans I'm just sounding a warning to you all. And if BBC DOES trash our favorite hero, let's tell them what we American fans think about it.

We'll wait and see. There was an American-made movie a few years back that was pretty awful too from all accounts.

Bah. Graphics don't make the show. I mean look how bad the effects were in the older series (like with John Pertwee or Tom Baker), but it was still a great show. I'd rather they spent their money on good writers and actors than special effects.

I admit that Tom Baker was great, and I was a huge fan of his for awhile. These days though...well, I've kind of burnt my obsession with him out and am now a big Sylvestor McCoy fan. True, the only REALLY great story he had was Remembrance of the Daleks, but still I liked his mannerisms and style.

He did have a certain style, and was certainly better than Colin Baker. It's unfortunate that he was given such bad scripts.

It'll be good to have the series live on, I know I've missed alot, the local public broadcasting station who used to show it was never very consistant with running the show, it was all about what they would get the donations for, or whatever.

Purists may flame me, but I didn't think the movie was all that awefull... granted it wasn't the greatest thing, but it was still pretty good (all things considered). Any time that the reigns are passed from one group to another you risk things not being the same... hopefully they won't ruin the series.

Seeing as Dr. Who started out as an educational show for children which developed a cult following in other parts of the world, I have a feeling they will tread very softly in regard to who they will pick as the 9th Doctor and the writing of storylines. I think they more than likely realize the backlash they would receive from Dr. Who purists to take the good Doctor in any direction other than it's original intent, to be a good family friendly show. I do hope we in the States have the opportunity to see it.

Let's see, 9th regeneration...that leaves you only 3 more Doctor. Best be careful.

And who wants to bet that somehow the Master makes his way back.

I wouldn't mind seeing the Master return...but they'd best find a really creative way to do it. I mean, I don't see how even the Master could escape being vaporized by the Eye of Harmony.

Except...one could say he wasn't killed, but was rather sucked to another place in time, seeing as the Eye is the TARDIS' source of power.

Of course, since they are time travelling, they could always bump into him anyways. They do have the Mara to fall back on I suppose, but she never had the same presence.

The mara? Don't you mean the Rani? I didn't much care for her as a villain. She didn't quite match up to the Master.

What about the Daleks? Will they be returning? Or should we shelve them? I mean, we can only have so many Dalek invasions.

There was a Dr Who movie? Never heard of it, but then that sounds like a good thing. Yeah, and I am a Baker fan, I also liked the young blonde Who, but then that was because he's cute.

The movie was an American production (or a joint production with the BBC)... I think the idea was to run it as a pilot and then if the feedback was good enough, to spin a series from it....

The movie didn't draw in enough to spin the series I guess.
